   Everything about our experience last night at 34 Restaurant was outstanding. From the moment we walked in and saw the striking decor to the greeting we received from the hostess ,server ,and dining room manager ,we couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The menu was stocked with interesting and authentic Portuguese dishes. Everything we had was perfection. The cocktail list and wine list was over the top and we loved the Portuguese sparkling rosé, and the Sangria that accompanied our meal I would highly recommend to anyone tourist or local that they give 34 Restaurant a try.

   As a local excited to try this new spot, I was hoping for a smooth experience, but it fell short. Despite having a reservation and being on time, I was seated 20 minutes late. It took quite a while just to get drinks, and the loud music made it hard to enjoy the atmosphere or conversation. I want to support new places in the neighborhood, but they’ve got some kinks to work out before I’d consider returning.

   A real taste of Portugal. From the cod fish appetizer, steak entree, and dessert. Everyone who worked there was attentive, knowledgeable and had great personalities. I really enjoyed it.

   Mixed experience. I’ll start by admitting I am new to Portuguese food so keep that hat in mind! My main point of reference is Spanish which is of course not the same. Croquetas and anchovy toast apps hm were very good. Patatas bravas were excellent. Mains - duck rice and the octopus were just ok. The rice and duck were both a bit dry. No socarrat (perhaps that is not a Portuguese rice thing). The flavor of the octopus was drowned in a bbq like sauce. Had a nice carrot side dish. The service was kind of crazy. First, all the food (apps and mains) came in 15 minutes. We got three dishes before our drinks came, which is a peeve of mine. So it then proceeded to get cold all at once. Recommend ordering in stages! From there service was very sporadic. I ended up having a glass of wine as desert since we were done with the food by the time it arrived. Nice selection of Portuguese wine though.

   We were excited to try the restaurant while visiting New Orleans for the first time. It had been reviewed and recommended in Condé Nast's Traveler magazine. We were greeted by friendly hosts upon checkin and seated promptly. We waited about 10-15 minutes to meet one of our servers but they only brought drink menus. About 30 minutes later we received the dinner menu and we were left to review it. Once our server returned, now about 45 minutes after being seated, we ordered but had to later change an order since it was sold out that evening. Once ordered, the food did arrive in a timely fashion but we had ordered another glass of wine that didn't come for about 10-15 minutes and we had to remind our servers. Overall, the restaurant is beautiful and the menu is interesting and is promising. Currently, the food seems hit/miss. Our Shrimp dish and Grilled Greens were excellent. The Toro Tuna was unimpressive and tiny and our replacement dish of tomatoes wasn't special. 34 Restaurant and Bar was expensive for the overall food ordered and service. Our cocktails, however, were great and overall, it was a pleasant evening but the service wasn't smooth and slow. Staff were friendly, however. There are some kinks to continue to work out.

   We sat near the kitchen at the salad prep bar where Thomas (culinary intern) was preparing food. He was incredibly nice and friendly and he’s a US army veteran. We highly recommend sitting at the food prep bar. We had a great time.

   I’ve been to this restaurant a couple of times and I want it to succeed, since we eat out a lot, enjoy Portuguese food, and enjoy the ambiance. That said the restaurant has been inconsistent. Service is friendly, but not very attentive given the price point. My first meal, I brought 4 friends and tried many dishes. The uniqueness and quality of the dishes brought me back a second time. At the second dinning, the sardines, octopus, desserts and cocktails (gin and tonic) were very good. The service was inattentive. The Prego needed to be sent back as it was too rare, then came back cooked perfectly, but overly spiced saturating the flavor. The seafood arroz was bland, the seafood meager, and the dish felt like a bust at $65. We will give it another try, but given the amount of restaurant choices at the same price point, we will be more critical.
