Love Love LOVE the new additions to 23 Hoyt's menu! I think they are definitely tying in that med feel with the expanded pastas, fried raviolis, etc. The whole concept seems to be getting bigger and more dialed. I've always loved this place but the people and the product is shining brighter than ever right now. I wanted to sit outside and they let me lol even in 50 degree weather. I brought a coat! Service was great.
My mom and I went for their drag brunch with a big group and had a total blast. The performers were such perfect additions to the already pretty great brunch program they have going on. We ordered a few biscuits and gravy, their french toasts, and the crowd fav--crab cake benedict. One person mentioned they expected slightly more crunch on the crab cake but mine was super crunchy. We also ordered a lot of sides of things like bacon, fruit, and more biscuits. Kitchen was happy to accommodate which is refreshing in portland. The block was busy and when we left around 12:30, they were still seating more so I think it was a successful day for them! Need to find out when the next drag brunch is and go again! THANKS!
Music here is nice. I heard quite a few songs that I don't here anywehre else anymore like Royksopp and The Knife. Brought me back but also made me stick around. Ordered a Weihenstaphaner Bier and some early dinner. Their brussel salad is super good, then I enjoyed their massive Flintstones lamb forshank, which is super cool presentation. Whole thing is just a massive piece of meat on a prehistoric bone, served on parsnip puree, which is much like mashed potatoes or something similar. The sauce on this bad boy was off the charts. Had to order another brewski and when a friend showed up, she ordered the croquettes and prawns which I also had a bite of. I liked it all really...
This was some of the worst service I’ve encountered. 20 minutes till drink orders another 20 to order appetizers. The waiter was also snippy which I thought was funny with how poorly he was doing.
Lots of items to choose from for brunch. Frittata and Hash scramble were very tasty, and the special price mimosa was a treat. Food and service were great, and we had the added bonus of a drag show! Fun Sunday brunch !
The Drag Brunch is great! Very fun. Good food. Small menu, though
Wouldn't recommend this place for the food or service. Ate the bone marrow (good), lamb croquettes (not bad), clam linguine (okay, but nothing special), and the whole trout (not good - very fishy to the smell and over all just a bland tasting dish). The food isn't bad, but it is just not worth the value. It is very okay... I wasn't blown away by the flavors, or quality of ingredients, or presentation, or anything really. It all felt uninspired. The service was also terrible. It was a Saturday night, but it was not very busy restaurant about 3/4 full. I think we only say our waiter 3 times once to order drinks/food, once to bring the check, once to give me back my card after running it. Want more water, track down another server... want another cocktail, or small plate, or silverware... stand up and go track down another server. I am hoping it was just an off night for this guy, but nevertheless he was horrible.
On a positive note, the cocktails were very good and the atmosphere of the place is nice and inviting. Possibly a good place to go for cocktails, but there are way too many good restaurants in Portland to blow your appetite here.
Most everything was amazing. service 100% quality of food 100%. we did however wait for an hour for our main course. Our server tried his best to make up for it with a second round of drinks. I would definitely come back.
We went for Valentine’s Day. It was an wonderful ambience and exactly what we wanted. Dim and intimate with a live musician playing, but not too loudly.
The food took longer than expected, and came out lukewarm throughout the entire experience.
Wait staff was great and friendly. I’d go again. But not for $65 a pop.
We were greeted promptly although the restaurant was very busy. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Valentines Day. We were seated at a table whose top was not securely attached so it was both tippy and rotated. We asked to be moved and we were, however staff seated another party at this substandard table. The waiter spilled a beer down my back, it was so dark that we couldn't read the menu without holding the lone votive candle next to the menu. We waited an long time, because apparently our first course was given to some one else; then there was an LONG wait between courses and when the bill came there was a mandatory tip added. The dinner was advertised at $65 per person; since the tip was mandatory I consider this false advertising.
Let me start this by saying we went here on Valentines day. We waited 15 minutes for someone to come say hi and take our drink order. Our appetizers didn't arrive until we had been seated for 45 minutes. Our drinks had been empty for 10 minutes when I flagged down someone to get drink refills. The table was wobbly, the live music was bad and very loud. The food was actually quite good. In summary, in 15 years of being together this was our worst Valentines Day dinner ever.
Valentine’s Day! They had a live musician singing and her voice was stupendous. The food was fantastic as well. We specifically loved the desserts
The lobster bisque was grainy and the herb coat on the steak was burnt. It took over 30 minutes to get the desert. It was noticable that we were forgotten. Definitely not worth the money.
Nice place. Fun. Food good+.
I was disappointed that onion rings are no longer on the menu. Same disappointment as when the cornbread disappeared. Otherwise the food was good. Just not sure how soon I will return.
Took an out of town guest to brunch and really enjoyed 23Hoyt. The food was great the staff was nice. Would definitely recommend this place again. Would love to try the dinner menu. The breakfast potato’s were amazing!!
Ran out of the Winter Squash. That was the best vegan choice.
Let’s face it the food here is good and it has been for while. The service is pretty good too. We just happened to come on a night when they were filming a commercial for The Miami Heat owner. We had an extremely bright production light 💡 in our eyes the entire time. There were directors yelling takes over and over in our ears and they kept entering and exiting so we were freezing. I feel as if we got jipped. Everyone on our side should have been offered dessert or a drink or something for the inconvenience. This should have been done when there were no guests around - or in a private area. I doubt we’ll be back.
Great place for brunch! No wait and delicious food.
Everything was terrific; Zack and the staff were so very friendly and helpful. Wine was great as was the bread and our Brussels sprout salad. I think the only tiny thing I wasn't thrilled about was how spicy the cauliflower dish was; I wished I'd ordered something else. Oh well! That won't stop me from coming back. Highly recommend 23Hoyt!
Fantastic flavor combinations, excellent service, great ambiance
The staff was super friendly and helpful. Cuisine was very interesting with the most amazing combination of ingredients (apparently there's a new chef in town!!) Ambiance very lovely. Cool, trendy place. Highly recommend. (We noticed there's a totally different vibe here for Sunday brunch!)
Great place and great service. Cocktails were incredible. Scallops were perfect. Duck was a little too chewy but otherwise great experience and I would recommend to anyone.
23Hoyt has a great location and atmosphere. It has a good energy- busy, fun, modern and bustling. The service is excellent. Since it’s busy, there is noise but not bad. We could hear each other.
The food was fine. The seasoning on my salad and entree were ok but not amazing. My salmon entree came with a couple of clams and mussels which were small. Two of the mussels didn’t open.
Overall, the place is nice. I may have just ordered wrong.
Our reservation was for 7 people but the table was set for 6, this ended up not being a problem as one person backed out. We went for brunch, food was good as were the mimosas. Service was excellent we will be back,
Great service and atmosphere.
Service was great
Great service with nice menu at reasonable prices
Great spot for a cozy meal
The personal pan cookie was enough to split
The duck was tender and cooked just right
We had planned for a lovely brunch to catch up with friends which we had not seen for some time: however, 23Hoyt had a disgusting drag show which was so loud that we could not have a conversation! It was so out of place for a Sunday afternoon and there was no notice of any kind.....it will be our last time at this restaurant and it truly took NW 23rd area to a new low!
Absolutely loved New Years dinner here with our big group. It's hard I think for a place to accommodate 14 on a holiday but with their prefix and the double server action, their people got it done. We have a big, loud, annoying family (and we know it) but everyone was soooo nice to us and there were no waits, no probs, a lot of laughter with Ashley their manager too. Food was above and beyond. I think we must have gone through 5 bottles of wine, I didn't like the merlot that my aunt picked but that's just because I don't like merlot. This was my first time but I think Valentines day is definitely in the cars, based on their holiday smoothness.
Another nice night at 23Hoyt begins with candle light, the Blazers game is on, happy hour is the bomb, etcetcetc. I don't know of another place that is landing it this hard. Y'all gonna make me go broke! The bar was packed//busy but we got great service from the bartender and stayed after the game for plenty more. Yum!
I love this place! Great drinks, scrumptious food, good people! Can you ask for more? Nice stop while shopping on 23rd. Thank you!
My wife and I had their taggliatelle with pork and their lamb. Oy Vey what a choice. Juicy cut, the noodles were so slurpable and covered in a brothy, stewy gravy. We each also ordered their ceasar salads and some of the fried risotto. All of the food was very good and service was fast, server was presentable and clean looking-- also FRIENDLY, which is rare in Portland.
New year day brunch! Great atmosphere and excellent food paired with Mimosas
My husband and I went for New Year’s brunch and it was incredible! Andrew was our server and we love him - he’s our favorite! The food was amazing, the service impeccable, and the whole experience was very relaxed and chill. We highly recommend 23 Hoyt to all of our friends and family, as it’s a very special spot for us. We were engaged there on July 3, 2016, and we go to every major holiday/special occasion, for their one-of-a-kind meals. Thank you!!
Decided to spend NYE at 23Hoyt since they had a good looking prix fixe menu and live jazz. We were disappointed by the service, didn't receive our drinks for 40 minutes after sitting down. When we asked the server for non-alcoholic cocktails for my pregnant wife, we were told "sure, I guess the bartender can make a mocktail", but no options we're given. The poor service was continued for the rest of the evening; it wasn't uncommon for us to go 15 min or longer with our drinks and water completely empty.
The food itself looked good on paper, but was mediocre at best. The prawn and salad were good, but the entrees were not very flavorful. Overall it was a very disappointing dinner for $85 per person.
NYE dinner. Service was very slow. Food was mediocre. No water throughout dinner. Very expensive bad dinner
Sorry but for a $85/person price I expect really great food. We turned back 3 of the 4 courses due to unappealing flavor/texture, tough thin steak, unappealing flavor/consistency of dessert. Not great.
Great food on a late night visit after a long day of holiday travel. Just the best food!
