Unique and exceptional experience. Great food and service.
I had a friend in town and one that has recently moved to Portland. We were very excited about the cuisine however our experience started out very poorly. Our server, Kari (sp) seemed to be disinterested in being at work. We had food that was never put in, we were continually served incorrect orders and our orders were served to other tables. My drink orders were continually wrong and then our complimentary items we were given due to the result of the service were charged to our bill. The Frutos de Mar paella was excellent and I will definitely go back to try the food again but I will likely sit at the bar and the bartender was nice. We were there for 2.5 hours for two meals and two drinks. I hope that the next time will be a better experience.
Wait staff very nice but overwhelmed. Took over an hour to get any food and a bottle of wine. Food was not great. Used to love this place but new tapas menu isn’t working.
Salsa dancing was fun! Couldn’t hear what the waitress was saying though. Would go again!
Fantastic new menu, delicious food and a perfect martini!
It was wonderful!
I think they have the best caesar salad in town and I am a big fan of caesar salad. Our entire meal was good and the staff was amazing. Also, the prices seemed more reasonable than most. Thanks.
Thrilled to have 23Hoyt reopened! Great food, service and atmosphere! Outdoor dining on the sidewalk makes for a nice evening. This is our go-to on NW 23rd.
We ordered the seafood paella to be shared by 2 people. There was very little seafood in the dish. It was tasty but mostly rice. For the price of $48, it only had 4 meager shrimp and 7 tiny clams to be shared by 2 people.
The mushrooms from the grill were very tasty, the ham on it was very dry.
The service was very pleasant and when we were asked how our meal was and we mentioned our disappointment, we were offered a complimentary dessert which was very kind.
The music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other or our wait staff.
There were definitely positives about the flavor of the food. We expected it to be expensive so the prices were not the issue. There was just not enough value.
Also, they add a 16% service charge and state any additional gratuity would be appreciated which left us wondering how much additional to add.
All superb but band too loud... They were great but too loud for the space..
Great staff and amazing food. Definitely had a wonderful experience.
Amazing food, service…cool atmosphere and live music and amazing value for the high quality - 5 stars
Solid tapas, the duck piperade was outstanding. Being a very new place, the experience was encouraging. I am sure they will be better in time, that being said, they are off to an excellent start.
23 Hoyt just reopened recently, and the menu has been very creatively re-imagined. The service was exemplary and the food was excellent - even though the restaurant was full when we left we could converse easily without excessive ambient noise. A really good evening!
Our experience was most satisfactory. The food was quite inventive - particularly enjoyed the rockfish dish. Will be back.
Excellent, beautifully prepared food, beautiful space, attentive, crisp service. Glad this restaurant survived as it deserves a great comeback. Support 23 Hoyt! It is wonderful.
New menu is amazing. Loved everything we ordered
place was good and had a good selection for restaurant month but the staff were absolutely awful. they were chatting in the bar area when there were clearly customers that wanted their next course or to place an order for a drink but couldn't due to staff socialization.
We introduced some friends to this restaurant, and they were very impressed with everything from the ambience to the food and drinks. Our table ordered off the Portland Dining Month menu as well as the regular menu - everything was excellent! All of the cocktails were stellar - creative and delicious!
We took advantage of the Portland Dining Month offers, and found that a pretty good deal. Food was well prepared, creative, and tasty.
Our server knew just the kind of vino to suggest for a big group of guys, getting ready to get married: pitchers of beer. OMG the beer special during Happy Hour here...$15 for anything. Including whatever craft. In love. Thanks dudes! Snacks were good too.
Yummy brunch and excellent service from Chris. Benedict is to die for and their juice tastes really fresh....even in a mimosa :)
Hit it for dinner and enjoyed our lil' time here. I ordered their shrimp, which was nice but smaller, then a caesar which was awesome and large (crutons were very good n' crunchy) then we shared the tagliatelle which might be the best pasta I have ever eaten. Warm shredded pork and veggies, some kale in there and the broth/noodles are perfect. I crave it in the night :D Will def be back for more.
A+++ service and food for PDM! My wife and I have been here before but not for the dining month deal and I can say the portions were large and the food delicious. They were very very busy but things came out surprisingly on time. No complaints!
generally friendly staff, good food which was nicely presented.
I can honestly say I do not think the owners of this restaurant actually care about running a high quality establishment.
A restaurant is defined by the quality of the food that they produce. The quality of the food is a function of how serious the kitchen takes their mission. If the mission is to turn over tables and get people in and out, the food is of a particular type. Fast to make, no concern over quality, no care of consistency. Sort of like going to Olive Garden or Claim Jumper.
If the mission is to produce an extremely high-quality product that stands out in a great market like Portland - the kitchen takes their time and does their job right. They don't rely on the customer to be quality control (by sending crappy food back, this is a lazy way to run the business).
Our dining experience - All three of us ordered the salmon dish. This dish is supposed to come medium rare, and among other ingredients, with fingerling potatoes.
The salmon was well done, and by this I mean it could have been a piece of smoked salmon, except it was dry and rather tasteless. The clams and muscles were also significantly overcooked. In order to make up for over killing the salmon there was a over abundance of sauce.
And then they completely left out the potatoes. Not clear how a kitchen sends out dishes that are incomplete.
No one is watching the pass. No one is looking at the quality of the product that comes out of the kitchen and saying to themselves is this what I want to serve. This means this restaurant is about turning tables and not about the quality of the food that they produce.
Add to - truly lack luster if not horrible table service, and this is the restaurant to pass on. With so many high-quality product producing restaurants in Portland this restaurant relies completely on its location in order to keep the doors open. It is about the level of quality you would expect of a standard Hotel restaurant where the audience is captive.
Very slow service. Food quality was subpar. Never asked about dessert Don’t think we will return.
Mixed bag of an evening, food was quite good but brought wrong dishes and drinks, plus they ran out of both desserts on the dining month menu
Arrived on time for our early evening reservations, seated quickly.... and that’s when the series of long delays began. Slow on drinks, ordering, etc; to the end. Two and a half hours later.
Food was above average, but served so late and even on the warm side (vs hot).
It may be unfair to grade service so low because that implies waitstaff issues, when there could have been other causes... with that being said, the customer experience was very poor.
The waitress comp’d our drinks and discounted the meals, but we were watching others come and go in a normal fashion; Not Us! We were in Bermuda Triangle of service, simply a poor experience with no logical reason why.
Recently tried 23Hoyt for Portland Dining Month and the experience was good overall. The food was excellent and the environment pleasant. My only criticism would be that the service was a bit uneven. The servers were friendly but could perhaps be a little more attentive.
It was our 25th Anniversary and we chose 23Hoyt.
We were greeted by our sweet waitress who took very good care of us, very professional!
We both had cocktails, salads, pasta entrees and desserts!
Everything was very tasty my partner loved his but I was a little disappointed in my dish! Nice serving (root vegetable pasta) but very chewy almost to being tough! I was looking forward to root vegetables, guess they were in the sauce which was a little bit bland with only kale!
Cocktails were tasty and desserts were delicious!
We’ll definitely have to give it another try!

Love Love LOVE the new additions to 23 Hoyt's menu! I think they are definitely tying in that med feel with the expanded pastas, fried raviolis, etc. The whole concept seems to be getting bigger and more dialed. I've always loved this place but the people and the product is shining brighter than ever right now. I wanted to sit outside and they let me lol even in 50 degree weather. I brought a coat! Service was great.
My mom and I went for their drag brunch with a big group and had a total blast. The performers were such perfect additions to the already pretty great brunch program they have going on. We ordered a few biscuits and gravy, their french toasts, and the crowd fav--crab cake benedict. One person mentioned they expected slightly more crunch on the crab cake but mine was super crunchy. We also ordered a lot of sides of things like bacon, fruit, and more biscuits. Kitchen was happy to accommodate which is refreshing in portland. The block was busy and when we left around 12:30, they were still seating more so I think it was a successful day for them! Need to find out when the next drag brunch is and go again! THANKS!
Music here is nice. I heard quite a few songs that I don't here anywehre else anymore like Royksopp and The Knife. Brought me back but also made me stick around. Ordered a Weihenstaphaner Bier and some early dinner. Their brussel salad is super good, then I enjoyed their massive Flintstones lamb forshank, which is super cool presentation. Whole thing is just a massive piece of meat on a prehistoric bone, served on parsnip puree, which is much like mashed potatoes or something similar. The sauce on this bad boy was off the charts. Had to order another brewski and when a friend showed up, she ordered the croquettes and prawns which I also had a bite of. I liked it all really...
This was some of the worst service I’ve encountered. 20 minutes till drink orders another 20 to order appetizers. The waiter was also snippy which I thought was funny with how poorly he was doing.
Lots of items to choose from for brunch. Frittata and Hash scramble were very tasty, and the special price mimosa was a treat. Food and service were great, and we had the added bonus of a drag show! Fun Sunday brunch !
The Drag Brunch is great! Very fun. Good food. Small menu, though
Wouldn't recommend this place for the food or service. Ate the bone marrow (good), lamb croquettes (not bad), clam linguine (okay, but nothing special), and the whole trout (not good - very fishy to the smell and over all just a bland tasting dish). The food isn't bad, but it is just not worth the value. It is very okay... I wasn't blown away by the flavors, or quality of ingredients, or presentation, or anything really. It all felt uninspired. The service was also terrible. It was a Saturday night, but it was not very busy restaurant about 3/4 full. I think we only say our waiter 3 times once to order drinks/food, once to bring the check, once to give me back my card after running it. Want more water, track down another server... want another cocktail, or small plate, or silverware... stand up and go track down another server. I am hoping it was just an off night for this guy, but nevertheless he was horrible.
On a positive note, the cocktails were very good and the atmosphere of the place is nice and inviting. Possibly a good place to go for cocktails, but there are way too many good restaurants in Portland to blow your appetite here.
Most everything was amazing. service 100% quality of food 100%. we did however wait for an hour for our main course. Our server tried his best to make up for it with a second round of drinks. I would definitely come back.
We went for Valentine’s Day. It was an wonderful ambience and exactly what we wanted. Dim and intimate with a live musician playing, but not too loudly.
The food took longer than expected, and came out lukewarm throughout the entire experience.
Wait staff was great and friendly. I’d go again. But not for $65 a pop.
