Fantastic. Every detail.
We enjoyed a very pleasant birthday dinner celebration at 23 Hoyt. We had a great dinner and great service. Thank you for making our evening so special.
23Hoyt is reliably great every time!
My Family and I enjoyed a nice Sunday brunch at the venue. The $2 mimosas were definitely welcomed, along with a good selection of other libations. It would be beneficial to have a more diverse kids menu or the option to substitute portions of meals to better fit the diet needs of children.
Our party of 5 had a terrific meal on Saturday night! Our server was very attentive and made a great wine reco for us. Our food was delicious all around! We enjoyed the corn bread app, the Caesar salad was terrific, the salmon was great with the tasty sauce, and others enjoyed the chicken and steak frites. Would highly recommend 23Hoyt!
The menu was very intriguing from the cocktails and appetizers to the mains. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I had the Wagyu tartar - followed by the gnudi (a naked ravioli if you will). Both were exceptional! My husband enjoyed the cast iron cornbread followed by the steak frittes. The steak was a little undercooked for his liking but the flavor made up for that. Overall we both really enjoyed the meal, the venue and the service.
Easter Brunch was wonderful!
My husband and I went for Easter brunch and it was amazing. Andrew was our server and he is always attentive and friendly. 23 Hoyt is a special place for us, as my husband proposed to me there, 2 years ago. The food is always on point and we love how they have drink pairings that match perfectly. We really enjoy the ambiance and the staff are welcoming and super nice. We usually dine there 2-3 times per year but always hope to go more often!
Extremely disappointing! The service was slow and sporadic. The food was not interesting as described. The huevos rancheros had no ranchero sauce and were quite bland. The tortilla was not gluten free as advertised. The coffees were significantly overpriced.
Really long wait for food to arrive. Our first course came in an hour. Our second course was 30 min later. Good thing we weren’t in a rush!
We made a reservation and ate dinner at 23Hoyt on Thur, Mar 29. Beautiful restaurant, but the food was mediocre, and the service was downright terrible. It took our server more than 10 minutes to initially arrive at our table. This guy had 0 personality, he made no effort to be polite or engaging, and he could not be bothered to tell us anything about the menu. Unfortunately, it did not get any better, as our server was MIA throughout the entire meal. I would definitely NOT recommend 23Hoyt, based on our dining experience that night.
Excellent food! Great atmosphere!
i have eaten at 23 hoyt six or so times and always come away very satisfied. I was surprised
to hear one of my guests comment this past weekend that "even the coffee was good". I do agree in an era of dark roast (bitter to me) restaurant coffee, there's is a nice medium roast.
Every item on the plate stands on it's own. An the environment lends itself to one being relaxed. The high ceiling minimizes the noise. Not to overlook one can also shop for gifts during lunch. Reminds me of shopping duty free on long haul flights of days past. Perfectly prepared food.
We came after seeing the matinee of Hamilton at the Keller. It was the first time at 23Hoyr for all four if us. The atmosphere was great, service fantastic, the menu selections were delicious. A perfect place to go after the theatre.
Been here many times and never disappoints!
Always great food
We had the Portland dining month menu so I’m not sure if they adjust the portion size but we both walked away feeling hungry. It could have done with more seasoning. I might try again with the regular menu.
Food was delicious and good portion sizes. Nice selection on menu. Great that you can reserve a spot for brunch.
This was my second trip to 23Hoyt, the first for dinner and the latest for brunch. I made a reservation for 11:30am and our party of four was taken right away. We started with the donut holes, which were heavenly (warm and wonderful with caramel). Three of us had coffee, which was only refilled upon request (actually, vigorously flagging someone down). The restaurant was not busy by any means, but it took an extraordinary amount of time for the food to get to the table. Our waitress was polite to the point that she had to be, but certainly didn't go out of her way (see coffee comment). When our entrees finally arrived, they were hot and delicious, great presentation, and nicely sized portions.
My first experience was a couple of months ago when I met a friend for dinner. The waiter we had that evening provided excellent customer service, was engaging, and frequently checked in with us. The food was excellent.
Wonderful meal...had a reservation...thw booth was awesome....great service and wonderful brunch.....great choices and wonderful mimosas....will plan to rwturn to try dinner!!!!
I loved the music they played for Sunday brunch. It was very upbeat and happy!
First timer - great food, ambiance, and character. Excellent service - overall, we were impressed and would come again. Thank you!
Our waitress was outstanding! We were very pleased with the gluten free options, and the care that the kitchen took in preparing our meal. The food was delicious!
Such a fantastic experience. Food was great! Service was perfect!
Service was far below expectations; server stated she was overwhelmed with too many tables, didn't really take care of us, acted like it really didn't matter and that she couldn't change the situation. She comped us one meal, but we would rather pay for the meal and get great service than get poor service and free food.
There did not seem to be a Mgr. on duty or anyone visiting tables that would have discovered that there was a problem with the service - a big miss on the whole front of house team.
Went with a friend for Portland Dining Month. The menu was superb, service was great, overall a terrific experience.
I like to know what eateries are serving up before I eat out. I like to know what's in the dish? Is it a local farm, fresh, purveyor? Is it organic or using sustainable earth friendly practices? If it is meat, is it raised on a factory farm and if so I say "NO" Thanks! To me, paying a little more for higher quality ... that's inexpensive health insurance that also tastes best! Win win! So what about 23 Hoyt? Don't panic ... it's organic! How do I know? Check this out ...
Well ... on a bunch of Saturday's at the PSU farmers market, I have bumped into chef Lorenzo pulling a wagon and filling it up with organic produce? Lovely! We shop at the same organic farms. First time I bumped into Chef I asked "where you going with that wagon loaded with yummy, hearty and seasonal veggies" ... he said "23/Hoyt!" "Are you the Chef?" "Yes!" OK ... I'm there. I knew we had to go to this restaurant. So here is how our dining experience went.
For dinner we tried: 1) Gnudi which is a rolled up rich tasting dumpling with ricotta, nettle and some hedgehog mushrooms served over fava sprout pesto and sprinkled with heirloom popcorn. 2) Seared Duck Breast served with robuchon mashed potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli and duck jus. Duck source unknown? 3) Fried Chicken (NW free range) crunchy outside and moist inside served with cast iron cornbread, bacon braised and sweetened collards topped with a jalapeño honey glaze. Nice plated presentations! All exceeded our expect-taste-in's! Chef's team knows how to cook up them seasonal, farm fresh veggies with or without meat dishes.
When you step through the front door the mood is inviting. The decor is contemporary, elegant yet simple, candles, interesting plants, lots of windows, open airy space. Our servers picked up the ball and keep us moving at a pleasant pace through our dining experience. All good!
Portland March Restaurant month. Very good and great value!
Food was great. The service experience was very good but slow which is what led to the 3 star rating.
Otherwise, luv 23 Hoyt!
service wa poor. Slow and inattentive staff that seemed uninterested in the restaurant. Food was ok but not up to par for the prices.
Subtle and artistic service; more like a leader on a dining expedition than “service”.
Comforting welcoming ambience with Scandinavian charm: split wood with scent of burning wood; shadows and light with candles.
Waitress was not attentive. The food was definitely average: a charcuterie plate that has prosciutto and spam like meat isn’t very impressive. The cheese plate was just a Brie, let’s say, an expensive Brie. With so many delicious cheeses in the world and only one is served.
Great cocktails and great food. My wife and I went here on a whim and will definitely be returning.
23 Hoyt’s food has really gotten better (in our opinion,) over the last 6 months or so. I used to only get Burgers, now I trust the kitchen for their specials and other items on the menu, which is very welcome.
Wait staff is always attentive. The kitchen was really really backed up on Friday night- but our wait person was great, brought us out some extra items to hold us over and it made the wait ok. In addition, and most important- when our food did arrive, it was prepared with real care- the kitchen might have been backed up, but they clearly made sure every plate went out as it should have. Really appreciated!
Food was amazing and the service by Aaron was excellent!
This was the most awful dining experience I have ever encountered. I have never had a restaurant be as neglectful and rude as I experienced here. Right from the get go we were treated poorly, not receiving water fro over 10 minutes or bread for almost an hour. The waiter never brought our drink order, after checking our ids, saying he never remembered us ordering drinks and by the time the food arrived an hour and a half after we were seated, it was undercooked and cold. The only saving grace of this restaurant was that the manager comped our meal after we had to seek him out to relay how awfully we were being treated - no one ever came to our table to check on us. For what would have been a $200 meal, the service was the worst I’ve ever encountered and the food was subpar. I would not recommend this to anyone and will not be back.
Waiter was over the top great! Great service! We were at the Jay-Z table. Going back as long as
We get the same waiter. 👍
It was very nice and the food was great! Will be coming back to try their happy hour!
My wife and I went for Valentine’s Day. The atmosphere was stylish and dress casual. The highlight of the night was the special Old Fashion, best in Portland! The food was good but the service was slow even though there was a fixed menu. I would go back.
