Excellent food. Portions were nice but not too big. Great suggestions from the waiter on pairings and sides.

Our first time to 1870 to celebrate our anniversary. Riley was our waitress and she provided outstanding service! Our meal was probably one of the best I’ve had in a while. We started with the lobster bisque and burrata apps, then we had the hanger steak and duck breast along with au gratin potatoes and carrots. Dark chocolate tart for dessert. Everything was delicious!!

The building is lovely & the service friendly, if slow. The noise level (at peak dinner hour on a weekend) was off the charts, though the restaurant has clearly done work to try to reduce noise. Everything we ate was good but not “fondly remember that meal next week” good. There were service mistakes - table set for 2 on a 4 person reservation & never entirely set, one of our dishes was missed entirely. It wasn’t a BAD experience, but at that price in the suburbs I expect either great service or great food.

This was my second time dining here and will probably be the last. We had terrible service from the get go. I ordered an espresso martini and received a monstrosity with baileys in it. When I asked the server if I could have a standard espresso martini he gave me a strange look and said “this is the only espresso martini we have.” Our first course took an entire hour to get. We ate extra bread to stave off our hunger (for an annoying $5 charge). We ordered an expensive bottle of wine and were then told sfter 20 minutes that they didn’t have it. But we were still charged for it so I had to ask to have it taken off. Worst of all, I split the $76 ribeye which was not cooked properly. I ordered med rare but it was quite rare. The ribeye fat hadn’t melted at all so it was all chewy and fatty. I truly could have made a better steak at home. The compound butter was good. The NY strip someone else in my party ordered was excellent. The first time I came here I had such a wonderful experience but unfortunately they have already gone very very downhill.

A few issues - I hardly ever send food back but had to do so twice. Service was great but food lacked the precision and imagination of MCK.

We had a great time at 1870. Iva (probably spelling her name wrong) was amazing. She was very attentive to what was needed. She made suggestions and knew the menu.

Valerie, our waiter, was a delightful person and made perfect suggestions as we asked her thoughts and opinions. Our meal was delicious! The steak was cooked to perfection and the local asparagus was tender and perfectly prepared as well! Thank you for a delicious and pleasant evening as we celebrated a significant birthday!

The food was incredible. It took a long time to get seated and get our food, but the staff gave us free drinks for our trouble, which was very nice.

We have eaten here previously and it was excellent. This time although the food was good, our medium well steaks were overcooked. And it took over an hour for the food to come out.
