We want this restaurant to succeed but we suggest that there needs to be two improvements. First, the menu needs to be updated frequently. Second, the food needs to be served hot, having the food that lost its desired temperature changed the taste and desirability of the dish. Third, the wait staff needs to be more attentive to the customer. We were the only table left and waiting for our check we found all or most all of the wait staff sitting outside of 1861 at Bees Knees having their own social gathering.

We had limited time from its opening time to when we had to leave for a concert so we need to give this restaurant another visit to enjoy a much more leisurely dining experience. We rushed our dinner and they didn't have the staff to serve a rushed party of four. That being said 3 of 4 first courses were quite good. The mushroom strudel was so-so as it was at least 80% spinach and very limited mushrooms with little flavor. The 4 main courses were from good to excellent. We are going to talk this place up as there were only a few tables taken and it would be good for Southwestern Utah if this place can survive and thrive. Loved the idea of fine dining, smaller portions and reasonable prices.

We tried this restaurant out for the very first time. It was basically empty because we took the latest reservation of the day. The wait staff was the cutest and fun and added to the experience. The restaurant was very small but decorated very modern and nice. The presentation of the food was amazing. We chose the Concourse and LOVED every single course. By the end of the meal, we were stuffed and completely thrilled with the experience. The only downside is the location. It is inside a senior living community. While that by itself isn't a deal breaker, it was weird trying to find it inside another building. But once you walked inside, none of that mattered. It was GREAT!

Second time eating here and still really love this restaurant. This time we went with our adult children and it was great sharing the various appetizer plates and being able to hear conversation in a quiet setting. We really enjoyed the meat and seafood plates for our main courses, and the dessert options were excellent. Highly recommend 1861!

This is a bait and switch and should not be advertised on any platform. 1. It is in a senior citizen home 2. Inside - it’s not a restaurant, it’s the facility’s activity room. 3. The service was poor- the waitress was vacant, confused and avoided eye contact 4. The cocktails- what cocktails?! The bartender admitted it was her first time making the drinks they misleadingly put on the menu (which they’d only come up with the night before) 5. The food- talk about treating your pet well! This was store bought pita, the “wagyu” steak was chewy bland and cold, the fish was defrosted and served cold , and the gazpacho was a strange color with coconut milk 6. The price - ridiculously expensive for the less than subpar food and service. I don’t know who they paid to advertise it as “fine dining” “gastropub” - this was straight up reheated senior assisted living food dressed up as “fine.” Avoid at all costs!

We ordered the $68 5 course dinner. The flatbread was burnt. Second course was a pork dish that was under cooked and had no flavor. Napkins were dirty. Beef short ribs were good but portion was tiny. The crust on the dessert was stale and very hard. The server saw the burnt flatbread and offer to take off the bill. When the bill came, no adjustment was made. I pointed that out to her and she shrugged her shoulders and said “ oh well” and did not make the correction. Overall I highly DO NOT recommend this place. We won’t be back.

1861 presents itself as fine dining; a luxurious website bolstered by an impressive and opulent menu. As we approached the location we found ourselves driving through a complex of multi storied apartments asking ourselves “where are we?” Something so grand, I would expect it to be located on a cliff with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Instead, the restaurant is located within the lobby of a senior care facility. Quite a stark difference in how one might be lead to believe judging from the website and menu. We were overly concerned about our own attire since the restaurant is described as business casual. They didn’t care what you wore as long as they had foot traffic. The menu turned out to be extremely limited. The waitress acknowledged this, and supported by the reviews after the fact. How many complaints before that gets updated? Furthermore, the portobello mushroom was dry, crusty, and tough. The tomato and cheese was the only palatable part. The striped bass was decent, but the vegetable side was dry and dull. The wedge salad with shrimp was a good portion for one. The artichoke dip was the one redeeming item we tasted, although the bread was so small, we couldn’t scoop up the dip and used spoons instead. The music blaring from the speakers above, was 80’s hair band. Not the best choice. It did switch to Jazz, thankfully. We asked for a slash of wine to determine if we would like to order a bottle (available by the glass too). Instead, we were schooled by a surly bartender about why he couldn’t open a bottle. Then he proceed to describe the flavor profile as a “blend of grapes”. We do want to give credit to the staff who were very friendly and patient with us. It seemed that they have become accustomed to the displeasures. 1861 has potential, but it is not fine dining, and we strongly urge management to update the menus and website to reflect that reality.

We arrived to celebrate our anniversary. We had been there before. We ordered a drink and placed our order. An hour later, the waitress told us they didn't have one of the entrees and that she didn't get the order in. The meal, except the drinks would be free. An hour later we finally got our food. I had the pork chop which was thin and very dry. It was a Saturday night, could have been part of the problem. We will still go back, maybe on a Thursday and hopefully get better service and food. The menu is very limited and most items seem to be appetizers, hopefully they will change that.

This is a beautiful little place to dine INSIDE a senior assisted living center. I didn't hear any music, it was almost empty on Saturday at 7p. No valet but I don't think Valet exists in St. George. The champagne - buy a bottle, mine had no bubbles. The meals were served at different times for me and my date. My espresso came in a huge late mug cold. ? The food was ok - small portions but not very expensive. The facility is lovely though - really amazing. The restaurant decor was very pretty and modern and the servers and hostess were very very accommodating. I had the wagu beef - it had a little cauliflower decor on the plate. The hummus as the appetizer was excellent. The dessert was the best part! Overall - I wouldn't return due to the lack of guests. If I retire, however, I would recommend to any senior who wants a plush environment.

The small plate menu was really appealing to us. Unfortunately, the beautiful menu items shown on their website site was not what was on the menu when we arrived. Not ONE item was on the menu that we came in for. When I asked the server about changing the menu, she said it had been changed weeks ago. We ordered the following: Lobster flatbread (but with shrimp as they ran out of lobster. Price was still the same.). It was a bit bland, shrimp had nothing to hold it into the flatbread so they fell off with each bite, but was the best of the plates. Duck leg with cucumber and watermelon radish slaw. Luckily I prefer my duck well done (which I did not specify), so it being over cooked was ok with me. The skin was flabby and soggy. The slaw had zero dressings on it and the radish was a plain red radish, not the watermelon. Seafood something - tomato broth good, but if you’re going to put mussel shells in the dish, actually having a mussel in it would have been nice. Finally the burnt ends. I’m stating that it’s the worst bite I have ever put in my mouth. The pork meat at the bottom had zero flavor and the 2” of fat was not rendered at all. I gagged trying to swallow it (which I only did because I did not have an extra napkin to spit it out in and didn’t want to gross out customers at the table next to us by spitting it into my hand). I told the server when she came by and had her take it away. When the bill came and she asked me to make sure it was ok, I pointed out that I was still being charged for the burnt ends and felt it should be removed as it was inedible and I returned it to her. She did make the adjustment. No one (after voicing our displeasure with the meal in general) came over to speak with us. We were given a comment card which I filled out in depth and left my name and number. And PS, if you tell your guests that you plates are meant to be shared, you need to give each customer a plate bigger than the maybe 6” plate or give new plates each course

Great, attendant staff. But food was overpriced and not good. At all. We ordered several dishes with another couple er were with so it wasn't one bad dish. We were so excited to have a fancy restaurant within walking distance from our house! But we'll never go back. We each ordered an over-priced cocktail that were both super skimpy and not very good. Loved the staff here but I'm no chef and make way better meals. Very disappointed.

Although the service and food were okay the entire experience was just too weird to enjoy! It felt like an incredible bait and switch to book a “fine dining” meal and find out when arriving that it is in a retirement facility. That was a terrible surprise and something that should have been disclosed to avoid the shock. Our reservation was at 7 PM. There were seven of us. We brought in bottles of wine. A couple of us were ordering cocktails from the bar. When we tried to order a second round and an additional glass of wine, we were told that the bartender had got home. That was 7:45 PM on a Saturday night. You cannot advertise fine dining and Have all these restrictive parameters from with in a retirement community. It may be an amazing opportunity for residents of that facility, but if you advertise it to the general public through OpenTable you have to make adjustments.

We need more options like this in the area! My only comment would be that I think they under season the food because it is in a Senior Living area. I think being a new location, they will get this figured out. That being said, the seasonal menu is great, the service staff are very pleasant and the pricing is reasonable. Definitely worth checking out!

They just rolled out a new menu and we didn’t like it. The main difference that we noticed is that the food was not as ‘clean’ as the old menu. The presentation was sloppy as well and in the past was impeccable. It felt like it was a different kitchen all together but when we asked they told us it was the same chef. The gnocchi bolognese was particularly perplexing. Big chunks of turkey and carrots instead of ground meat amd minced veggies. Also, it was burned at the bottom, looks like it was forgotten in a hot pan and got burned at the bottom (see pic)

The food and service were great. The only mishap we had with a couple who ordered their 1861 chronicles meal. Everyone got their food pretty quickly except them which was odd. They ended up just taking the last 2 dishes to go. Overall, I’d definitely come again.
