Excellent food. We had pasta, cheese curds and salad.
Great food, excellent service, nice to be able to reserve a table outside.
Very pleased with dinner and service. The wedge salad was excellent, with thick chunks of beautifully crisp bacon. Mushroom pasta aS very good too.
We had reservations before ‘Wicked’ at the Overture and found out on our way that the show was canceled due to COVID 19. We decided to have dinner anyways and so glad we did.
First off they were prepared for keeping us safe with scannable codes to pull up the menu on our phones. The food was spectacular and so was were the drinks. Great service and a really nice interior atmosphere with some cool facts on the menu about what you’re seeing inside.
Highly recommend after this whole thing is over with. For now though, practice social distancing and follow the recommendations of the cdc and local authorities. Glad that our last meal before self quarantine was here!!
Nice space, food was great, value was good. We enjoyed our pasta with pork belly and another with chicken. The bread was something we could buy at a grocery store and not worth the price. Would recommend this place in a good Capitol location.
Really appreciate the layout of 107. The booths give you a private feeling and make it easy for people to converse and visit. The menu has some basic tried improving items as well as some very inventive things. Highly recommend 107 State!
Every dish was delicious! Service was excellent. When the server was with other tables, the bartender was still tending to guests. They were quite a team. I would definitely return.
We discovered 107 State this past weekend and were pleasantly surprised.
Great location, right of the Square. We really liked the vibe/deco of the space, very warm and welcoming. When we arrive, there was nobody at the front desk, so we had to wait awhile. Ultimately a server came over and checked us in and seated us. The menu is not extensive but the pasta dish and the pork ragu with beans and burrata where prepared well and tasted great. They were featuring prime rib the night we were but by 7:30 ( early) they were out. Nice discovery as we are always looking for new restaurants around the Square and we will definitely be back.
Two pasta plates + salads + drinks before a show . Nicely done , quick, inexpensive. We'll be back.
Booked this restaurant because it was close to the Overture Center. As other reviewers have noted, even though they don't have an extensive menu for dinner, the food was quite good.
I had tomato soup and the porchetta sandwich and my husband had the 107 burger. He had fries as a side - not very many of them, actually - and I had salad, so much that I shared some with him. The portions were not large, but just enough that we weren't headed to the theater on overfull stomachs.
Would definitely eat there again.
I had the roasted chicken. Amazing❤️ My friend had the prime rib which he absolutely loved. Very tender. We will definitely be back.
Small menu but don’t let that deter you. Their 107 burger was one of best I’ve had. I just wish I would have added the bacon. Our meal was reasonably priced and service was great. Unique craft cocktails and great music. Very relaxing meal topped off with cheesecake. Highly recommended.
We had dinner before a show at the Overture. Service was excellent. The menu offered good choices. Wine prices were very reasonable. Our entrees were excellent. We had a nice dinner for a very reasonable price. We will return fir another dinner.
I rather enjoyed this restaurant. All of the food was very good and well prepared. The only issue I had was they could have used some attention to detail, such as providing sides with an incredibly well prepared steak. They also could have served bread with the salad. There were no veggies in the salad just greens. But all in all it was a quality meal. I will go back. The pasta was perfect and the rib eye was on par with fine dining restaurants in Chicago, New York, and LA.
l enjoyed the wonderful sandwich and my wife liked her prime rib. Nice noise level. Great bar.
Salads were poor - wedge was awful. $8 for lettuce that was brown on edges. Mixed green salad had also only greens. Prime rib was average and chicken not cooked well. Overall very disappointing- server was good.
Enjoyed our visit to 107 State. Enjoyed a lovely date night with good food and warm ambiance. Will go back :)
Had not been here before. Limited menu but we had a great meal.
As a tour guide in Italy I know what an authentic Roman pasta should taste like and this place nails it. Simple, delicious and no frills so the flavor really shines through. Service was friendly and efficient and cocktails well crafted. We'll be back!
I go here somewhat often. The food is always excellent. Good service, great music on the turntable. The roasted bacon appetizer is fabulous. Great for a meal before an Overture Center show.
We were treated so wonderfully by the bartender and the chef! While deciding between a few dishes, they brought us a bit of pasta to taste. The special was prime rib, and the chef carving it out in dining area was a nice presentation. We typically aren’t huge prime rib eaters, but it was so tempting. The food was absolutely phenomenal! And we had plenty of leftovers for the next day.
Called and could not add a member to my party...got there and watched a table for 2 go unused the whole time.
They ran out of chicken dinners ay 6pm.
Chose a different entree that did not come out with the order and had to wait.
Won't go back.
The food was good, but we would have appreciated our salads being served before the main course arrived. They were brought together.
We chose this restaurant based on the menu and proximity to Overture Center. The ambiance was quite a first and a little louder as the crowd came in for the Big 10 championship game. We could still have a conversation in the booth. The drinks were good. As we knew from the OpenTable published menu was limited but excited to try their prime rib. We found out they were not serving prime rib while Hamilton was in town. No problem, we went with the ribeye for 2.
We ordered it medium but it came out chared. Not knowing if this was how they served it we took the first bits, nope it was chared. The waiter stopped over and asked how it was, we said Chared and he said Okay with a concerned look and walked away. Not being the type to let an overcooked piece of meat ruin night out, we kept eating. You could tell the inside had really good flavor. It was a shame the outside was so badly cooked.
That waiter and manager came over as we finished up to say they were buying the last round of drinks. A nice gesture to repair the damage of the dinner, but came a little late into the meal. Also, some may think I am cheap for saying this, but at $50 for a 22oz piece that doesn't even include a side. A few pieces of broccoli or asparagus would rounded the plate out nicely.
We also ordered some cheese curds for the table. These had good flavor. Their texture and crunch are similar to that of a county fair deep fried corndog.
Overall, it was an okay evening out with friends, mostly due to the drink and conversation had.
We enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. Service was also very good.
Atmosphere was comforting. Staff was incredibly friendly. Menu was a bit underwhelming, and nothing really excited us. Pasta and burger we ordered were decent. I felt tricked into ordering brownies for dessert, when it was offered like it was on the house, but then we were charged.
Would highly recommend this small restaurant/bar as a great place to get a drank and/or dinner before a show or when just out and about in town. The menu is not vast, but there are plenty of choices for everyone including vegetarians. Prices are very reasonable. Reservations are accepted. Scott is a great bartender; our server was Adam. Had very good service, and very well crafted cocktail. My husband had a ribeye sandwich, and I had an amazing pasta dish. We'll definitely return.
The overall experience was very good. Excellent service. My wife had the fish fry which was pollock instead of the usual cod. The breading was as light and not greasy. I had the pork loin in a delicious sauce which was a little tough. Disappointed that there was no side served with it, not even a roll or garnish. Most of the entree choices were pasta.
We had a great meal here!! Very reasonably priced, cool atmosphere, quick service, and awesome staff. I gave food a 4 (very good) instead of a 5 (outstanding) because my bolognese was oddly sweet, still good but not what I was expecting.
Bartender was dismissive. Drinks were good! Food was great but the menu is very small. There is a daily special but they had already run out at 7:15pm. There is no dessert menu. Prices were good. Seemed like they wanted us out of there quickly.
Small but very delicious menu items. Great drinks and service was personable and good.
Overall fantastic steak and burgers, warm atmosphere, and pretty good service. We ordered the Rib Eye steak (Saturday's special), which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Delicious! The kids loved the burgers, which were delayed because at first the order was wrong. It all ended fine after a bit of miscommunication. The waiter in charge of filling our water was particularly terrific.
Hello Mary! Thank you so much for the review! I remember your table and thank you for your patience with the burger mix up. We are so happy that you enjoyed the cuisine and we look forward to serving you again. Cheers! Nathan
We were hopeful given how the nice the ambiance was when we walked in. However, as we sweat waiting for our food (it was very, very warm in the place), and as we were tortured with the unusual choice of music (symphonies from another era), our hope dwindle. Then when it took around 45 min to get our food, and the water server even approached the owner to say that we had been waiting too long, and the food was fine, nothing special, we decided it was a bad choice. Won't be going back and can't recommend it.
Limited menu but all was very good. Noise level was low so could carry on a conversation without shouting. Will return.
Thank you so much for the review! We look forward to serving you again. In the future, if the volume is too loud, just ask and we will turn it down a bit to accommodate. Happy to have you here and thank you for coming. Cheers! Nathan
Experience was OK. This is an overrated bar. With barfood. Very limited menu.
Thank you for the review. We are still working out some growing pains as we develop consistency with our team. I would love to have another opportunity to serve you. Please feel free to reach out to me if you choose to do so. Thank you Nathan Mergen Chef/Owner
Not bad for a football weekend (choices are limited).
Wish they knew better how to make a real Old Fashioned (not Wisconsin-style :).
Our meals were fine, not special.
Thank you for the review! Football weekends are tough so we appreciate the positive review during this busy time. We have only been open for a few months and we are in the process of developing more SOP's and consistency in the kitchen and on the restaurant floor. Your patronage is greatly appreciated and we look forward to serving you again. Thank you Nathan Mergen Chef/Owner
As long as you recognize that this is basically a bar, you will not be too disappointed. There is a limited menu - only a few items in each category (appetizer, salad, entree, etc.) and there was no dessert listing. Our entrees were good - I had the fish fry and my wife had the chicken entree. The size was just right - not too small but not a large portion either. I thought the wine that we purchased was a bit on the high side price-wise, and we were a bit taken aback when we asked for coffee and they said that they could put a pot on if we wanted (we declined. Remember, it is a bar...). Our booth was where the bar bumped out a bit so patrons at the bar were pretty close to us with only room for one person passing by to move between us at a time. The folks sitting there were not noisy so that was not a problem for us this time. Our service was was fine although a comment by the hostess that she could seat us right away (we were 10 minutes early for our reservation) but that the service might be slower was somewhat perplexing since the dozen or so tables were never completely filled. I would certainly recommend it to a friend, but not for a fine dining experience.
Hello Bill, Thank you for the review and thank you for recognizing that we are in essence a tavern. We just went live with opentable last week and we are still in the training process of how to manage this and the door as well, especially with theater seatings, and a football weekend, as you might imagine this is all a steep learning curve for a place that has been open 3 months. I hope we have the opportunity to serve you again and I thank you for your patronage. Cheers! Nathan Chef?Owner
We will try it again, but the pork chop was inedible (hard as a rock) almost impossible to cut. It was also so spiced that two of us in or party of 7 took one bite and decided that we couldn't eat another bite!! Our mouths were on fire!! They must have changed the recipe, because one of our party had recommended it to us! She said it didn't even resemble the pork she had enjoyed ! They brought the two of us each a 1/2 order of the chicken entree, because we weren't all that hungry which was just fine, but the burning in my mouth lasted until we were in the Overture Center Concert Hall. I grew up in Madison. It is my home town. I worked at Olson's Dress shop from my Junior year in High School (Thursday evenings and Saturdays). The address was 105 State Street. I worked my way through the UW working summers there until I started working in touring Theater Musicals. I was able to graduate from UW with ZERO debt! That shows you how old I am. I love State Street. I worked "next door" to 107 State St. for years. . . MANY years ago. I think that is why we wanted to go with 5 friends before the MSO Concert last Friday. The staff were very hospitable. They were very sorry about our awful pork chops! They did their best! Not their fault! THE MUSIC WAS WAY TOO LOUD . . . Maybe I won't want to go back after all. We like Cento a lot . . . hey! We like Nick's for comfort food sometimes! . . . we go to Overture Center a lot. We would try 107 again. . . maybe?!
Hello Susanna, Thank you for the review. I would love to have another opportunity to serve you and your guest again. We are still a relatively new operations and we are working on delivering a consistent product, and if you were to give us another opportunity we would be happy to take care of you. Feel free to reach out to me personally. Thank you and we hope to see you another time. Nathan Mergen Chef/Owner
107 is a great addition to the downtown Madison restaurant and bar scene. Whether you want to stop in for happy hour to grab a local beer on tap or make an occasion of it and sit down for dinner, you are in for a great experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their food and beverages. The real key to its success is the fact that its ran and operated by Chef-owner Nathan, his eye for service and taste for food adds an extra personal touch that's hard to find in modern restaurants. I can't recommend it enough and I plan to be back again and again, I can't wait to see how the space evolves.
It was a busy night but service was terrible. Waited over 1.5 hours for an appetizer. No subsequent drink orders take.
