Loud, drunken Marines ruined the ambience for much of the night.
We got to be seated earlier than the reservation time for our Saturday night date upon arrival. The South American flavors are mouth-pleasing from the sweet spiced Sangria to the citrusy hot sauce (with secret ingredients) and rich fillings in the empanadas. Patrick, our server, was fantastic at helping us select just the right Costillas with our entrees. Beautiful dining experience.
We chose outdoor seating (via this app) when making our reservation assuming it would be on a patio or the like, but when we arrived, found it meant being seated at a single table awkwardly placed on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. It was getting blustery and there were no heaters (not to mention the lack of ambiance at this weird solo table), so we asked to be seated inside instead, which they couldn’t accommodate. Then, we found out they can’t serve alcohol at that table, so we couldn’t get beer or wine with dinner. On the plus side, the food was amazing. Would eat there again given the quality of the food, but probably we’re not in a rush soon given how we felt about the disappointing seating situation.
Cool decor in a small restaurant. I had the empanadas, which I had never had before. They were not too spicy to my liking, but quite dry. Had to get some sour cream on the side for them to be palatable. Waiter was standoffish and seemed to have a bit of an attitude, but helpful when asked about specific menu items. Did not come back to check on us.
Always a delicious treat. HigHly recommend.
Great spot for a local date night! Can’t wait to come back.
Very fun place with great food and service.
We have eaten here before and really enjoyed it. We decided to make reservations for their special valentines menu. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the food. The ceviche appetizer was way too astringent. The roasted vegetable platter was incredibly bland. Our entrées, the duck and the lamb, were sub-par. We did not say anything to the waiter, because we just didn’t want to complain on a special occasion and ruin our date night out. We were both very surprised by how below average the food was. Perhaps their regular chefs had the night off?
Not sure, but having spent quite a penny on this dinner, , we don’t plan on returning anytime soon. 😔
We had to put down $40 to make a reservation and they took our order more than 30 min after the reservation time. I ordered lamb off the menu and the waiter came back and said it’s actually pork, not lamb. The service was slow but was worse After the salad when we waited over 20 min for our entree. The food overall was very tasty but the desert was very average. With all of this said, the wait staff was kind, courteous, and did offer to make up for the menu mishap and the late entrees. I am happy to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was an off night but my first experience was not great.
Apps were good, service attentive, warm best salad was delicious. But the lamb shank should be falling off the bone and instead required quite an effort with a steak knife and was a tough chew.
Had the calamari appetizer and salmon main course, both excellent.
Food was great and service was great too. Love trying new foods.
Most amazing and delicious food in town, by far. The staff is super friendly as well. It feels like you're part of the family while eating food that is clearly made with love, pride, and passion. Simply obsessed!
This place is fabulous! Great, authentic menu. The blue corn beverage is not too be missed, nor is the yucca appetizer/side. This was our first visit but it won’t be our last. Can’t wait to try MOST things on the menu. Service was amazing - staff will take plenty of time to explain everything. Don’t miss this lively yet cozy spot in Encinitas.
Amazing service, even better food, will definitely be back!
We always love eating here. The empanadas are amazing!
Love this place
Was super stuffy when we got in, I think they finally turned on some air as it seemed to get better or I just got used to it. Inside is a bit small & cluttered but cute in a way. Service was terrible in the fact it literally took longer for them to bring our food out than it did for us to drive home from Encinitas to Laguna Niguel. Took literally an hour for our food to come out after we ordered and we weren’t the only ones. They add an 18% gratuity on the bill without any mention, I didn’t see it posted on the menu either. I asked if they placed the 18% on automatically because they get food out so slow, they then took a drink off our bill which they should have done and offered free dessert for the time it took to get our food. The staff are friendly but the time it took to get our food was ridiculous, staff never even mentioned anything. I guess nobody wanted to acknowledge the elephant in the room. The Lomo Saltado was not good, tasted like tomato paste or ketchup had been mixed in. My wife is Peruvian, born and raised in Lima, I’ve been multiple times. We just got back a few weeks ago and trust me there was nothing Peruvian about that dish. We asked for multiple drinks and were told they were out. The pork special was good and again staff was friendly but overall it was a bit of a disaster. Maybe they were just completely off with everything tonight but regardless we will not return.
Food and service was excellent. Great flavors in every dish! Thanks Qero!
Food is very good.
Our appetizer was not ordered and we had to ask for it after dinner was served. The lamb shank was described as falling off the bone and I had to saw it off with a steak knife. The pork special was amazing, tender and full of flavor. We were a party of four and gratuity was added to our check.
Fantastic food, fantastic service. Highly recommended.
A great little spot for a fun/creative lunch or dinner.
Wonderful food + wonderful people.
Be sure to make your reservation.
Great food. The Sangria is a must to try!
Not only lived up to expectations, but blew them out of the water! The service is fantastic - quick, friendly and informative. With a gourmet, yet unique authentic home-cooking feel, their dishes will surprise and delight. I highly recommend the calamari, which comes with a sauce so delicious we bought a bottle to bring home. Q'ero has quickly become a new north San Diego favorite.
Thank you for the positive feedback, Henry. It means a lot to us! Just so you know, we are in the process of having our sauce produced nationally, so hopefully it will be on the shelves at a store near you soon!
Good for those special occasions . Quiet atmosphere and good food. A little bit on the pricey side.
Love this place. Always quality food with excellent service. Patrick and Carmen were amazing hosts as always. Been coming for years and will continue to do so.
The good at Q'ero was spectacular! They had a special New Year's day menu and I'm thrilled we stopped in for lunch. Amazing adobo pork, the black rice with scallops.... ooooweeee! Delicious! Couldn't recommend more highly
Flavorful food in a small intimate venue. Empanadas are outstanding and the other choices on the menu are 4.5 stars.
It was a busy Friday night with a steady stream of diners filling up all of the tables. The service was spotty and slow. We used all of our napkins along with 2 from nearby tables on an accidental spill. Although the spill was cleaned up, the napkins were not replenished nor were we asked if we'd like to have a replacement drink. So..service questionable... food great!
Lovely as always. But I miss some of the dishes of last year’s menu.
Great food and sat o7tside since it was nice
Great restaurant experience!
It was my second time and it was just as good as the last time! The was they blend the flavors and cook the food is spectacular. Love, love, love this place.
Great dining experience once again, but service was a bit slow and less attentive than I’ve seen in the past. The food is incredible and I will definitely be back.
Great food and a fun location in downtown Encinitas!
We were visiting Carlsbad, and Q'ero was highly recommended by a friend. It is a small restaurant, and we were fortunate to get a reservation. Because it is on the main road in downtown, parking can be an issue. The food - ceviche, beet salad, calamari etc. - was excellent, and each dish was unique. However, my Loma Saltado had 80% fries and onions and not much steak. The Malbec wine from Peru was excellent, but expensive.
Amazing good tasting Peruvian food and great and caring service. We were celebrating Mother's Day and it was awesome for my dear wife.
Haven’t been here for a number of years. Still very good but not as good as I remembered. Still a great place to try!
