Barbetta Restaurant
Barbetta having recently celebrated its 114th anniversary is the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family. Barbetta is the also the oldest Italian restaurant in New York and the oldest in the Theatre District, making it a New York City landmark. Adding to its historic luster is its location in four townhouses from 1874-1881 purchased by Barbetta’s founder Sebastiano Maioglio, from the Astor family who had spared no expense in embellishing them with magnificent wood paneling, imposing doors and fireplaces. Entertaining at Barbetta is like entertaining in your own patrician family mansion. The same holds true for Barbetta’s ballroom/dining room, a spectacular interior resplendent with 18th century Italian antiques resembling a private Italian palazzo, opening onto a verdant garden with century-old trees.
