Portico Restaurant & Lounge
Lovely atmosphere. Nice food with easy choices.
This is a nice quiet restaurant at the early time slot (5:30) we chose before going to the theatre. It is not a large menu but certainly there are adequate choices for most tastes. Especially interesting was the Caesar salad that could be ordered with kale rather than romain. Both our entrees were perfectly cooked and very tasty. The restaurant serves complimentary bread which seems to be unusual these days. We thought the wine list was extremely expensive although the red bottle we ordered was nice and served at the correct temperature. Coffee which we ordered was also expensive. We did not try the desserts as they seemed quite pricey.
The service was good our server Nikita was very attentive. The food was also good and the portion was good although in our experience the cut of steak we got was rather tough and had a lot of sinew which spoiled the main course. The noise level was due to a guest on the bar lounge side that kept talking in a loud voice for the entire dinner, nobody seemed to tell the person to lower their voice. The main host and a male server were also talking about other guest in a loud manner which as a guest I would not want to hear because it made us think that when we leave they’ll be gossiping about how we were as guests.
Great place for business meetings where you want to actually hear each other.
Venue, food and service especially was a pleasant surprise as it was my first time there.
The last time I was at Portico’s was in the mid-2000s. I had good memories eating there when I worked in the area -a variety of different choices on the menu, healthy and delicious.
To my surprise it continues to be. We enjoyed ourselves and ate everything off of our plates.
Will definitely would go back more often!
The food was just “ok”. Two people in our party had a sore stomach and were uncomfortable for the evening. Not sure the food is as fresh as you expected.
Good food at a very fair price, with excellent service.
Surprised to find that it is inside the Comfort Inn Hotel. I either missed it in open table when booking or it does not say. We were a group of 8. Arrived before any other tables. Received our food last. Plates are big and portion is small. Unfortunately this is regular hotel food trying to be a fancy restaurant. Not likely to return.
On arrival we were met by a very courteous waitress, our dinner was excellent, served by the Sam young lady, always had a smile.
We dined at portico prior to going to theatre. Service was friendly and efficient. Great food particularly the feature flatbread. Would definitely visit again!
I feel that the ratings are a little high on Open Table for this restaurant. It is connected to a hotel, as well, and not a major brand. The seafood risotto was not creamy but gluey. Dessert portions huge and my dining partner enjoyed that. I don't recommend Portico for any special occaision.
Always a great spot and one of my favourites in downtown Toronto. Food is excellent and it is somewhat of an undiscovered gem - just the right level of busy on a Friday if you want to meet and talk with friends.
This is a great place to grab a fancy dinner if you are going to Massey Hall. This is how I discovered it.
Been going to Portico for about 10 years. I describe the cuisine as Asian / Canadian fusion. Presentation is flawless and flavour combinations are complimentary and on the exotic side.
Usually they do table water infused with fresh fruit which is very refreshing. They also bring table bread - warm- with a flavoured butter.
Today, I had the Miso Black Cod, which is one of my favourites on the current menu. The Tuna Nicoise is also excellent.
They have a good variety from Pad Thai to Strip-loin to burgers and fish & chips, so it’s an excellent choice if your group has differing tastes-something to please everyone.
Sides are exotic and there are a variety of mains that come with limited carbs.
You need to experience the food- my description doesn’t do it justice. Read the menu for full food descriptions. If it sounds good to you in writing, you will love it when they bring it to your table.
I eat out a LOT and travel internationally and Portico’s food competes very well.
Decor is modern and cozy. You could do casual dress but probably ‘business casual’ is the ideal attire.
...And they have happy hour features for the after work crowd.
Me and hubby were reunited with Portico through visiting a friend at St. Mike’s - Literally steps away (Massey Hall is closed for renovations). In the past 2 months we’ve been 4 times. Nice to have a reliably consistent quality establishment to go to.
Service is great too. Staff is friendly and attentive.
Very quiet. Service was fast. Server was very nice and had good recommendations for us. Washroom was up a flight of stairs and dining room was not very big. Overall a very good experience. Would definitely go back.
Quiet place, easy to have a conversation. Good good and value.
Location was good, close tothe theatre. We enjoyed our dinner. The service was great.
What a great restaurant. Yummy food. Wonderful service. I'd go again.
Our waiter was friendly, welcomed us and was very at tentative during the entire meal. Only concern was navigating the stairs to use the restrooms. Perfect location for attending the Elgin Theatre.
Quiet, undiscovered place. Good food and drink. Good Value.
We were so pleased with our visit to Portico, and would highly recommend to anybody who is looking for a well cooked, flavourful dinner and a respite from the hustle and bustle in the city. Steps from the Elgin Theatre, we were well taken care of by courteous and extremely professional staff. To top it off, our meals were wonderful! Pasta sauces were well done and nicely balanced for flavour, as was the risotto. The price was very reasonable. Pay a visit! You won't be disappointed!
Solid menu, great service, quiet enough to have a conversation without raising your voice.
Great service. Excellent food. Not to busy. Restaurant is located inside a hotel.
Amazing restaurant.Great ambiance! Great service!!
I had a robust meeting with a colleague, and the service and ambiance was perfect. The food and beverages were top-notch, and I will frequent this restaurant for future meetings!
I certainly want to come here again
Had black cod and risotto from the menu with devil's chocolate cake to end with. Worth the money . Love the base sause they used and nice ambience to eat. Was quiet than normal but good service. Worth going again.
Quiet place for a nice friend's lunch!
Will be back for sure.
Food was very good and the service was excellent. Not overly pricey and nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it.
Portico is a relatively quiet restaurant in a hotel, downtown. The host and server were welcoming and pleasant. My husband and I were there for an early, pre-theatre dinner, so we only ordered entrees. The server, drinks and food arrived without any big delays and our meals were tasty, the service very good. We enjoyed that we were able to have a conversation without yelling over loud music, like most of the more upscale restaurants downtown. I’d recommend it for dinner with a friend, spouse or business meal, and especially pre-theatre or show.
We will definitely be back.
Quiet environment, good spacing between tables. Food is good, service was excellent. We were going to a show and the service was fast and our server was very polite.
We shared the sweet potato gnocchi and the pad thai and both were incredibly tasty. Our server was lovely and even offered to change the glass of wine I ordered when she pointed out there was something on the menu that I would prefer more.
Love the wings and steak. The steak was tense and juicy. The side of sweet potato mash was delicious.
Great experience, and will return when we are in Toronto again.
Rene was a real joy - says at 20 years there he is one of the newer servers !
Nice to see a successful family run restaurant in the downtown core.
Food was good and serving sizes were generous. Even for two vegetarians there were decent options. Our server was nice and was accommodating of our dietary needs.
The main negative was that the ambience was below average. The seats were the kind you get in conference halls - not acceptable for a restaurant at all. Certainly the seats and ambience are not the photo the restaurant has on their OpenTable page shows. This was the only drawback to our evening. It felt like we were eating in a cheap place and it took away from the evening.
We ate on a Friday night and thought it was a bit odd that there was only one other table dining there, the restaurant was otherwise completely empty. Not sure why because the food and service were good.
Fabulous sever, Rene, who was professional and timed his visits back to the table well. Food was tasty and plentiful. Near to theatre which was convenient.
Fantastic food and service! First time at this restaurant and will definitely be back. I had an amazing omelette (prosciutto, figs and brie - YUM!) with side salad. All 5 in our party enjoyed their meals and the service was EXCELLENT.
Everyone at our table of 4 really enjoyed the whole experience. There was a nice finish tjrough tbe whole restaurant, I would recommend.
We were a party of 16, many of us attending a 4 day convention in town. Portico welcomed us with open arms. The location was very good, and easy to get to by taxi, Subway, or even walk from downtown. We were well received at the door, and upon arrival, the staff worked to ensure we had adequate seating for our group. Staff provided ample opportunity for all of us to meet our friends as they arrived and to enjoy a drink before having to order. The menu selections were very good, and the meals were delivered all at once and relatively quickly. All of the guests whom I spoke after the event had nothing but good things to say. Service was excellent throughout, and the food was very tasty. We were the last to leave the restaurant, but were not rushed out the door. We were able to say proper goodbyes to those of our group who came. Highly recommended for a nice low keyed dining experience.
When location to Elgin Theatre, Eaton's Centre and transit are important, this restaurant is a wise choice. Their food is quite good, though not excellent and the service is good. We were able to have a quiet conversation and the ambience was nice. It is not at all inexpensive, but again, you're sitting in a nice restaurant right in downtown Toronto...
We enjoyed a lovely pre theatre dinner here last Tuesday. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was nicely presented and delicious. The menu was varied . I thought the prices were reasonable.
