We return to Poggio again and again. The ambiance and decor always reminds us of those wonderful, quintessential old-school Italian restaurants in cities like Florence or Milan. Poggio is warm, comfortable and relaxed, yet there is a certain sense of decorum that lifts it above the rest. The food is always well prepared, and the varied, authentic menu changes often, offering a seasonal variety of local meats, fish, fruits and vegetables. We love the Tuesday night “Family Supper” which features a different set menu each month. It’s a very good value, and there is always PLENTY of food for whoever is hungry. The main course and some of the antipasti are usually roasted in the wood-fired oven or over a grill and the first bite takes you immediately to the Italian countryside. The bartender, Tony, makes fantastic cocktails and offers wonderful wines from all over Italy. The service is always excellent; friendly yet very professional. Grazie Poggio!
Website advertised valet parking nearby but no one at the stand on a Sunday evening. Food and service were fine but it’s the first time in decades a restaurant offered canned, desiccated Parmesan cheese instead of fresh. Odd.
As always, we enjoyed incredible food and had great service. Poggio is our go-to place for special occasions.
Always stop here when we visit Bay Area from Los Angeles - wonderful!
The best food I’ve eaten in a very long tine. Authentic Italian. Fabulous meal. I cannot wait to return.
Server was awful- did not pour any wine/ disengaged/ dull. Food took a long time to come out.
We come here when we want to splurge - calorie-wise. We love the European feel of the room, the warm and attentive service, and the rich flavors of the beautifully considered menu. Nicely priced wine list as well. To top it off, we can hear each other talk!
Great place for celebrating special occasion . Excellent food.
Perfect meal and excellent service
Best service ever! Food is consistently interesting and delicious!
Well, it was a anniversary celebration. We had our first date at Poggio and it was just as delightful on Monday evening. Seeing our ex-buddy, Cindy, at the front desk was a plus as we walked in. So, we decided to eat at the bar and converse with Cindy and Jorge.
Despite our pickiness, the food was delicious and we were glad to see Honig on the wine menu.
All told, we had a wonderful time and will go out of our way to keep Poggio on our restaurant go-to list.
As the weather warms, we'll be back to drink and nibble on the sidewalk.
The menu is very large and there are so many delicious dishes it is hard to decide what to order. The pasta dishes are great as is the pizza selection. There are many vegetable dishes as well that are simply prepared but so tasty. And the warm bread is something I can always have more of. Servers are attentive but not in your face.
Poggio, one of my favorite restaurants! Food is delicious and the service is efficient and unobtrusive.
My go to for 20 years .. after hiking or showing visitors around.. for a nice dinner at the last minute. But no more. Such a shame that Poggio has lost its groove on every way. The food was mediocre at best - pasta orders messed up twice (wrong order made), after receiving correct orders, one was too salty and oily, the other bland, half the clams in one order not opened. Service and attention was either nonexistent or unfriendly and disconnected. Took 30 minutes to get first glass of wine and downhill from there. Three of us came for a family birthday dinner but were so disappointed in the food quality so diminished from times past, inattentive service where we had to wave someone down to get bread, olive oil, another glass of wine (white wine that should be sufficiently chilled was room temp, espresso that should be hot wasn’t even warm..). Anyway, our wonderful memories and experiences with Poggio of years past we’re nothing like our past two recent experiences. Sad for our community.
Arrived for Sunday lunch with two friends. We were disappointed in the menu options. Large meal options and a few sandwiches. We were seated at a booth in the back where it was dark. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient. Hope the menu can be updated to include more large fresh salad options and lunch/brunch items.
Consistently a favorite. Excellent food and ambiance. Poggio is top rated! Enjoy all the dishes.
Feels like Vienna or trattoria in Rome
old world romantic in feel and fabulous food.
The Gem lettuce salad was nothing special (the leaves were tough). The spaghetti amatriciana was a major disappointment. It was extremely dry, had little sauce, and no kick to it. It would cause a riot if served in a decent Italian restaurant in Italy. I have serious doubts that the chef at Poggio's is Italian or really knows her/his way around Italian food. The tiramisu was the best thing about our dinner. The red wines by the glass were okay, but nothing special. Finally, I'd say that for the quality, Poggio's was quite expensive. Finally, overall, in my opinion, Poggio is not really an "Italian" restaurant. It's superficially Italian, but not authentically Italian. It freaks me out that so many who review the place think that they've had authentic Italian food. My quest for an authentic hjigh-quality Italian restaurant in the Bay Area continues.
We had a fabulous birthday celebration at Poggio. Their service was impeccable and the food amazing. A bit noisy but they are a popular restaurant, so lots of people there! We just loved it and couldn't have had a nicer time.
Delicious food, my wife an brother in law shared the fabulous steak which was cooked perfectly, and everything else including the service was superb. The only downside was the noise level especially from a large table with several rambunctious children.
I regret that - after living in Southern Marin for almost 35 years - this was my first experience at Poggio. Everything was terrific - it was the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. And we shall return.
Excellent "go to" place for both locals and tourists.
Great Italian Food at a great location. After eating there on Wednesday and having such a great meal my colleague and I decided we had to go back a second night. I had the spaghetti with Arrabbiata Sauce and the Burrata Salad. My colleague had the carbonara two nights in a row! To make the night even better the waiter Bart was exceptional. He was a real pro and knew the menu up and down.
Indoor booth seating is quiet and elegant with good ambience and service.
We had the Tuesday Supper special and it was delicious and a fantastic value.
As always, Poggio's delivers. Our top spot for special occasions.
Wood-grilled artichokes with aioli, short ribs to die for, meyer lemon pannacotta with fresh strawberries, and the best bottle of Valpolicello. Oh my. The service was outstanding. Our server dealt with my gluten-free requirements with confident knowledge of the menu, and great recommendations. I love that their menu is always "of the season".
Had not been to Poggio's for several years. Restaurant still very good--good food, excellent waiter, nice wine list. Waiter was very accommodating when we asked for a different table; had two people with hearing problems so needed to find a quieter table.
They were offering a special prix fixe the evening we were there, and we all shared it 'family style.' It was great. Lots of different tastes and textures and fun to share.
Always reliable. We enjoy the food and quality of service. The restaurant is a favorite. Highly recommend anyone in Marin and worth the drive from SF. Beautiful view of the City from the main road back to Golden Gate Bridge. Pizzas are delicious as well as the pork chop and pastas. Great starters too.
The menu is extensive. The food is good, but not at the level one would expect from a restaurant with the appearance and reputation of a more upscale restaurant. This is the second time we have eaten there, and we are unlikely to go back, not because it was bad, but because there are so many other excellent alternatives.
Fabulous meal. The duck confit salad, almost an entree itself is a hidden gem. Exceptional pastas and every dish rocked!
I love Poggio, been there half a dozen times and never disappointed; fabulous Italian which freshest and best of ingredients.
We had a wonderful dinner.’
The ambience was geared to enjoying conversation.
Well go again soon!
Poggio has a refined elegance, excellent staff and service and an outstanding menu
Always a reliable consistent stop for lunch when driving into the city. Dinners with old world ambiance and authentic daily changing specials menu. Highly recommended
Waiters often hard to find here, but when they do appear, very good. Octopus appetizer exceptionally good, as was the trout and the halibut . Main dishes had a nice balance of protein and vegetables, which is unusual. Well chosen wine list, varied and reasonably priced.
The food here was spectacular, all of us enjoyed the apps and the dinner, we will be back!
Celebration of friendship
