Plumeria Beach House
I ordered Chinese chicken salad. When dish was brought to table, there was no chicken on salad. We pointed out to her that there was no chicken. She looked at plate and just said “oh, they forgot to put chicken on salad”. No apologies. Gross oversight, this is main item on dish. Waitress should have checked order before bringing it out. My other guest ordered a poke bowl, his dish came out 10 mins before the other dishes. My other guest ordered a wrap and her dish came out 10 few minutes after poke dish.
Waitress have coordinated getting all the dishes out at same time so we can start our meal together. At a restaurant like the kahala, this is a normal expectation. It was a disappointing experience.
Wednesday is the lunchtime curry buffet which includes a salad bar offering various greens, somen salad, tofu and similar cold items and cut fruit and a dessert bar with petit fours, two brownie-type cookies, a sesame seed filled dumpling, and several other sweets which I cannot remember. Four curries were on offer -- a Japanese curry with pork, an Indian curry with beef!, a Thai seafood curry and another type that I forgot along with various types of rice ranging from saffron to sticky white rice. In addition, there was an excellent ham jook and Singapore style noodles. Definitely a be-back!
I thought I had booked a brunch buffet at noon at the Plumeria Beach House restaurant at the Kahala Hotel, but apparently they finish their Sunday Brunch at noon on Sunday. My friend and I were very disappointed. It's such a great view that we decided to stay and have food off the menu. We started with their bruschetta, which was very fresh and yummy. I could've eaten that all day. Then we had our entrees. My friend had the street tacos and that looked good. She said so with her mouth full of taco. I had the loco moco, that was highly recommended by the waitress. I'm sorry to say, it was a disappointment. The short rib was 50% fat. I had to scrape around the fat to find the meat. The rice was a little tough and the poached egg that was deep fried in panko was heavily breaded. The service was amazing and friendly and again, the view was amazing. I would go back, but order something else, maybe the street tacos.
Celebrating vacation with friends
My wife and I did the Seafood Buffet on Friday evening at the Plumeria Beach House restaurant at the Kahala Hotel and Resort just a short distance outside of Waikiki. The location is great since it is adjacent to the Waialae Country Club, and is right on the ocean. You have a choice of outside or inside dining, and since the weather was perfect (almost every day in Hawaii), we chose to dine outside. The atmosphere at the Plumeria Beach House is mostly quiet and casual since it is right on the beach ..... there are two fancier restaurants at the hotel at the reception level. It's been probably 10 years since we last did the buffet here, but it has continued to get good reviews, so we chose this for our 52nd anniversary celebration. All was as expected and as advertised: service was great, the buffet selection was fantastic, appetizingly presented, tasty, and tempting to try everything (impossible). Our waitress was very pleasant, attentive (but not overly so), and essentially reset our table between courses. Certainly, no rush. We had drinks up front, several trips to the buffet (sushi +, salad, main 1, main 2, dessert) ..... all in a relaxing 2.5 hours.
Practical stuff: reservations are necessary well in advance; short drive or shuttle from Waikiki; parking can be valet or validated self-park in the hotel parking garage. To get the full impact of the beauty of the location, plan on getting there early and do it before dinner. Sun sets about 6:10 pm and pretty dark by 6:30.
Great food and customer service was excellent!
Great for breakfast and brunch. The view and service is incredible. My wife had the lobster benedicts on taro English muffins and she says the Hollandaise sauce was to die for. I had their omelette which I requested to do an island style scramble and it was done to perfection. Would return again.
Good food, good service. Their chairs need to be updated though. The seats are too large for the dining room, our chairs were constantly being bumped into which was very annoying. I understand it is indoor outdoor seating, but it seemed every table had their chairs pushed more than halfway out, with very little room to walk between tables. Overall a great experience!
Over priced and quite ordinary overall
As always, I really enjoyed the setting, the food, & the service (which is why I come back 4-5 times a yr).
But let me tell you why I was a bit disgruntled this time:
1. Was charged $107 on top of the check for a "large group" (we had a party of 8 but everything was on 1 check);
2. Was charged a "service fee" of $107 & it was stamped over the charge, that did not include any gratuity
(so for what was the service charge?);
3. The price / person on the check was $95/person but w/all the charges & gratuity turned out to be $144/person.
It appears that the price/person has gone up by $25/head? When we are making the reservations, the restaurant needs to make us aware of the EXTRA charges. For example, I would've split the party into 2 tables to eliminate that large group charge. And what is a service charge as opposed to the gratuity.
Look, I'll come back to the Kahala Resort (I like Hoku's a lot, too) but the others in the group were pretty upset.
Just being honest.
Very unimpressed. Overall was too loud, service was slow and food was horrible for the price point. Will go Four Seasons next time.
A lovely New Years lunch with an elderly tutu - this was the perfect setting.
The food and service was TERRIFIC/DELICIOUS! We will surely be returning soon with friends!
The first time I went to the Plumeria seafood buffet I was blown away, and wanted to go again so I decided to take three friends. This time, I was not impressed. The service was BAAAAD. Plates were not taken away when we went to the buffet for another serving. Normally when you go to any buffet, used plates are taken away. Repeatedly, we had to eat new servings with the old plates on the side of us. UGH!!! I do not expect this from the Kahala. We had to hail a server for cocktails. We had to hail a server for hot tea. I expect better service at the Kahala. Note to Kahala: I hope you train your servers to service diners. I expect more than other buffets in town.
Enjoyed Christmas dinner at the Plumeria Beach House dinner buffet. A fantastic experience! The staff was friendly and professional. The food was very well prepared and the buffet offered a wide variety of selections from which to choose. Even though it was a rainy evening and a lot of table were crammed inside, the noise level wasn't too bad and the buffet line moved along at a comfortable pace. We never felt like we had to wait in a long line in order to fill our plates. Kudos to the wait staff for such excellent service. If we stayed longer, we would have returned to enjoy the restaurant on a non-holiday occasion.
Probably my favorite place to eat in Honolulu. Prices a little high but the ambience is worth it.
Being right by the beach is the best selling point. Quality of food and service means overpriced. However, the setting perhaps is really what you pay for. Leaving a thermos of coffee is not 1st class service. Not offering change of dirty silverware to have different courses of food is 2nd class but the price is more than 1st class.
In the end, if you want food by the ocean, you go ahead and pay for it but most unlikely for a return. Sad...
The food was ok but the service was exceptional! A great place for a view!
Probably one of the best dinner buffets on the island! Outstanding service and excellent quality.
A very pleasant lunch.
We had the best waiter ever! I’m sorry to say I didn’t get his name. He was pleasant, gracious, and very accommodating.
The curry chicken salad served in 1/2 papaya witj fruit ob the salad is amazing! The view, service, valet parking... Wonderful!
Excellent curry buffet ! We had a wonderful time and hope to be back soon ! The wait help, the quality of the buffet, and view were magnificent!
We enjoyed the steamed crab bowl. That was a hit for our night.
Great ambiance, food, and service! Definitely going back soon.
Very nice atmosphere. Service was good The food was great. Was a bit disappointed in the dessert table but over all very pleased. It was my mother’s 85th birthday. She was very pleased.
The breakfast buffet had just ended and we were there for an early lunch. Our rsvn was for 1100a and we were seated at 11:20 at a nice comfortable table for 5 of us. Our server seemed a little rushed at first but as the meal progressed the paced was normal. Good lunch selection, nice dessert choices and beautiful hotel grounds. This was our 2nd time at this location for our holiday get together.
I love this restaurant where my usual place to eat and get together with friends. This time service was super slow than usual and the restaurant wasn’t packed so very disappointed.
Great place with a wonderful Seafood Buffet on Friday and Sat I believe. You can not beat the setting and the staff is wonderfully attentive and pleasant
We were there for the Thanksgiving buffet. We went on with low expectations, since it was a buffet, but everything was delicious, especially the monk fish and the bread pudding!
Service was a little slow. After being seated, there was a long gap before there was any service. Otherwise, it was a wonderful experience.
