What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
7.5

Plouf has great French food down an alley that's worth heading to FiDi for.

Ratings 7.0-7.5:These are your neighborhood standbys - the places that you’ll happily hit for some pasta or a quick salad, but not a restaurant you are bringing your parents or (god forbid) a date to. The true embodiment of good but not great.

Wait staff was clearly uninterested in their job. Curt, non attentive. It was cold and the indoor heater did not work. Food was ok nothing special. Place is old and tired.

Enjoyed dinner at Plouf. We were early for our reservation and were seated right away. The ambiance of the outdoor seating is cozy and lively but quiet enough to talk. The food was delicious. I had the coconut lime mussels and my son had the steak and shrimp. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. The owner waited on us and was polite but not intrusive.

I’ve been to Plouf many times over the years. Unfortunately, they are starting to nickel & dime for every item. Bread had been complimentary but is now $3 for a basket which consisted of a cut loaf of 5 pieces. This equates to 60 cents per slice. I asked for a second basket to enjoy to sauce from the mussels. The 2nd bread basket was larger in size (6 slices) & again for another $3.

I had made & confirmed a reservation back in March but to my surprise the restaurant decided to close on Sunday evenings. My out of town guests were looking forward to try the cuisine at Plouf. The only comment by the restaurant manager was that there was a glitch. This unfortunate event gave my guests & myself the opportunity to try the restaurant next door which was most enjoyable. Thank you Cafe Tiramisu!!

All in all pretty good. Wish steak had been cut when served bc it was a bit tough and knives not sharp. Had it been sliced thin, against grain, would have been better and easier.

Mussels and appetizers (crab cakes, truffle fries, deviled eggs) were really good - had the salmon, and it was okay.

For the serving size, over priced. Bread was extra and not a French baguette. Service was a tad slow in the beginning due to 2 big groups.I've had better for less.

Charming outdoor seating. Mussels were good, but pricy fix wasn’t a deal. Frites as subbed for salad w/ pricy fix were a paltry portion. $28 for mussels / frites was way too pricy for a lunch.

Don’t order the Oysters. My husband and I split a dozen oysters on the half shell 10 of them were good and then my husband ate the 11th one and it was bad. He went to the bathroom and got sick it was so bad. We told the waiter who was completely clueless, he asked if we wanted a replacement oyster.

We were disappointed to find that Plouf was not quite what we remembered from some years ago, when it was a charming French restaurant with very good food. Now the food is good, but not more than that. This time around the frites to accompany mussels had to be ordered separately, and we had to ask for bread--for which there was a $2 charge. No French restaurant worth its name would have frites and bread as add-ons with mussels! I can speak with authority, as we were in France in April and had moules frites a number of times. However, the ambience is French, and our waiters were excellent.

We had been there during our previous trip to SanFran eleven years ago. The food was exceptional then, as it is now. The service, is not. Perhaps hiring more servers would eliminate this problem. The noise level is higher than I personally enjoy. No one does mussels like Plouf! They are fresh and delicious.

My mussels were great as always and we had a lovely table outside. But my husband got different mussels than he ordered. The waiter basically said we could send them back but the kitchen was backed up and who know how long it would be before he got the right ones. So we just kept them. They were fine but not what he had wanted. And the Brussel sprouts were so undercooked as to be inedible.

We were charged $3 for a piece of bread and also $9 for french fries.bread is always served with french meals also french fries are usually served with moules. We spent about $ 300.00 for this meal including a bottle of veuve cliquot and I do not like to be nickel and dimed. And lastly since it was my wifes birthday she ordered a chocolate mousse and the best they could do was put a candle in it and charged $11 for it. Non merci ,c'est la derniere foi pour nous.
