It's all about the location. The service was fine, they were friendly and checked in once. Both dinners were overpriced and lacking in taste. My potatoes were cold, the sauce on the chicken bland and my husband's vegetables tasted like microwaved frozen veggies. He said the fish was rubbery and also fairly tasteless. We spent almost $70 (including the tip) and still needed to stop at Wetzels to fill up. I'm pretty sure the only reason they are still open is because you can sit over the water and sometimes get a great view of the sunset.
The food wasn’t as delicious as expected and the 7.95 mac and cheese for the kids were small portions of Kraft Dinner. The view was beautiful and still worth going to the restaurant for that alone.
Horrible would never come back here again they ruin my whole valentines night thanks
Amazing view, food was delicious and service was quick.
Meal was over cooked and the edges were burned. Cannot believe any cook would let something like that be served. Service was mediocre at best. This is a turn-over place so if you want a dining experience go somewhere else. The one good thing is the view of Coronado and the Coronado bridge. But you need to be there before it gets dark since once it gets dark you don’t see much.
Ambiance and location were nice. Food was just ok. Service was also ok.
I live in San Marcos and meet my former neighbor from New Hampshire who was attending a conference. I picked Pier Cafe because it was a chilly day but I wanted the feel of being outside. There was a splendid sunset and to my delight the food was delicious! I ordered the salmon and honestly was one of the best dishes I have had in awhile.
Cute place on its own pier. Food not too inspiring. The location makes it
The cafe is a little dated and their outdoor seating is not really outdoor but the view was amazing. The food was good enough to share and the service was outstanding!
Very overpriced. Seems they rely on the view to compensate for poor service and mediocre food.
I’d go back for drinks at a window seat and that’s it if I ever go back...
We left and headed to Top of the Hyatt for dessert. Excellent views, classy, fantastic service and fabulous ambiance.
Service was extremely poor. It took 13 minutes just to have a server stop by the table.
The fries were good. I ordered the fish tacos and there was just too much on them - salsa, guacamole, and lime crema piled on , the flavors didn’t blend well.
Nice restaurant with a good location over the water. If you're looking for something casual with good food and an interesting location and view, this is a good choice.
Literally on the water, you must notnmiss this view. Great for a casual meal.
Seafood was over cooked, but pasta was okay. They need to change to oil in the fryer more frequently or use different one for fish and chips vs onion rings If you stay with burgers fries and simple food, you are probably better off. You are paying for the view which was very nice, and the service was good and friendly
There was a special event that slowed service down, that we were not informed about until after we placed our order, would have gone to another lunch spot had we known we would be waiting for 30-40 minutes to get our food served.
Had a large group and they were very accommodating.
Beautiful location directly on the bay with great food, and good service. The calamari is the best in town and goes well with a caesar salad...my favorite combo.
There were cockroaches under our table where we were eating. Once you see that, I’m done with that restaurant!
The crab stuffed shrimp was delicious. By far one of my most favorite restaurants. The restaurant extends out into San Diego Bay. Great views.
Best thing is location, otherwise overly salty food and not great menu options.
We ate at Pier Café last night for the third week in a row. This time we were celebrating my birthday. We had a perfect table overlooking the water, the food was delicious as always and we were lucky enough to again have Ryan as our server. Ryan is incredibly nice, friendly, knowledgeable and makes it a pleasure to eat there. The very classy, kind manager even came to our table for a nice chat. Great evening!!
Great view of the San Diego Harbor and Coronado bridge. The service was exceptional, great staff. The food was somewhat special..
Accueil pas terrible. Un peu cher pour la qualité et la quantité mais c'est le prix à payer pour un cadre exceptionnel
Food was mediocre. If it wasn’t for the decent service and reasonable price point, this review would be more negative. The menu is really phoned in.
Food was good but staff was better. All the staff are so warm and welcoming. They did everything to make you feel comfortable. Will return when I am in the area. I am from our is state.
The food is always good, the view is one of the best in San Diego and we always love having Ryan as our server. We eat here as often as we can!
They were able to give us great seats with a view.Service was friendly and fast.Food was great.
Casual rustic restaurant with things like seafood, burgers, fish tacos and fried food. Really cool place to sit because it’s on the water. Not next to the water...it’s actually on top of it.
Has been our favorites for years. One year our club did a Christmas Dinner and around 50 were served upstairs with a menu that had five entrees to choose from with our own bar and dessert. EVERY meal was perfect and staff excellent.
If one of the areas you asked me about is a three then another area is a five. Not always the same each visit but who’s counting?!? The San Diego Bay view will always be a five!!! Location, location. 😎
The food and drinks were good. Pretty much the same menu for lunch and dinner, so don’t go for lunch and then dinner in a short time span. Always going to be a crowd in a tourist area, but they know how to handle it and did a great job with their service. Food came out quickly and the waitress did a great job of keeping our table attended to.
Pier Cafe could be amazing! Location could not be better but the food was terrible, the menus selection is not what you’d expect of a Pier style restaurant. But what really put me off was the old furniture and cheap vinyl table covers. With a little effort and modest budget this place could be something special, but as is, I would not recommend dinning here.
Food was not good and very expensive for the quality.
Made the reservation a week in advance and requested a window seat. When we got there no window seat available and wound up next the waiter station. The place looks nice from the outside but very disappointing once you get in the restaurant. Feels like they rely on the location and views to bring in customers but the benefits end there. Service was slow and my steak wasn't edible (ordered medium and was tough, stringy, and actually couldn't cut through with a steak knife). Told the waitress at end of meal that steak was awful and said she wished she new sooner to bring something else but we never saw her again after dropping off plates. They did take $20 off but would have rather had the nice night we were looking forward to.
Pier Cafe has a great location with an awesome view of the bay and also Coronado Island. Very casual dress is also welcomed. Our food was delicious (talapia snd mahi mahi). Child’s plate was a little expensive. I would recommend this establishment.
The servers never smiled and the food is absolutely overpriced. The food is grocery store freezer section reheated and served at a 500% mark-up.
