Salvatore Faso opened Piccolino in 2007. A Sicilian by way of Chicago, Faso comes from a family of Italian chefs and restaurateurs. He made a name for himself at Prego before setting off on his own with Piccolino.
In August of 2015 he moved to a free-standing building with exponentially nicer decor – it’s now the poshest Italian restaurant in south Orange County. The centerpiece is a beautiful wine vault that surrounds the front entrance. And there’s plenty to show off. Faso has assembled a concise but impressive collection of Italian wines.
Make sure to ask about the veal porterhouse. Chances are nobody’s going to tell you about it unless you bring it up. It’s not on the menu. It’s a secret special that’s always in short supply but usually available for a few orders each night. It is absolutely superb: cut thick, heavily charred around the edges and rosy pink throughout.

Great service, fantastic food. Had a great experience and will definitely be returning!
Went back there for the 4th time. This time was for my wife's birthday. We talked about how lucky we were to have such a high quality restaurant in the neighborhood.
Everything was great as always! Already looking forward to going back.
We went as a party of 7 and they accommodated us at a very nice table inside. The waiter was very attentive and the food was impressive...especially the extent of the menu selections and they also offered many incredible specials (I opted for the veal porterhouse, which was awesome). The wine list has just about every price point you could want and dessert did not disappoint. I would recommend for any occasion.
Such a wonderful evening celebrating my birthday! Thank you for making it special!
The food was outstanding ! Excellent service !!
Great food, spirits and service!
Food was tasty and the service was excellent!
The italian waiter was the best!
This is without a doubt the best Italian restaurant you’ll ever find. Their nightly specials are creative and delicious. We’ve been going here ever since they opened and even before that when they were in the strip mall across the parking lot that is now gone. I’ve highly recommended piccolino’s to family and friends, dined on special occasions and even had a catered in house birthday party. Never have we received anything other than fantastic service and food. This is a “must try” dining experience.
A full menu. the three dishes with order were very good.
Food was fantastic!
The Caesar Sald was phenominal
Excellent as always.
Service is attentive and friendly to the point where they make you feel special. The food is exquisite with all flavors blended perfectly. My comment to my wife was “the food is so good I feel underdressed”. Top recommendation!!
Service was ridiculously slow. Love this place but it wasn’t even very crowded. We will look for a different place next time.
Great as usual! Very friendly and professional service.
We really enjoy going here for dinner and the staff are also excellent.
We were visiting from Iowa. My cousin, Karole DeSousa and her husband, Dino highly recommended Piccolino’s! Ivette was our waitress and she was awesome! Very friendly, explained all the meals to us and made sure our cups were always full. The owner came to our table and told us what the chef’s special was for the day. He’s was also very friendly and made sure our experience was great. We definitely will recommend this to our friends. When we come back to visit Karole’s family we will come back to Piccolino’s. Thank you so much for the awesome experience!
The food was delicious and Raul’s customer service was amazing!!! I love this place
food was beyond amazing and our server Ivette took our experience to the next level! We can’t wait to be back
Ps. Order the seabass you will not be disappointed.
Also loved having a personable experience with our server and loved seeing smiling faces! Thanks Piccolino for the wonderful experience in such odd times
Late evening light meal and wine; seated in the outside tent where there were 2 other couples finishing their meals. We were greeted in a friendly manner. Unfortunately our server immediately tried to “up- sell” us on an overpriced Chianti, instead of the one we were contemplating, but we eventually settled for something different (of our choosing) - a fine bottle of Martin Ray Pinot Noir from Sonoma. We only had the Minestrone Verdur for my wife and the Carpaccio di Pera for me, and these were excellent. It was unnerving to have our waitress and other staff who came into close proximity with us not wearing masks. We have no idea whether these restaurant employees are vaccinated or not, but it should be protocol for a restaurant to require that their employees be masked when close to customers. If nothing else, it is a courtesy in this newly fraught time of the Delta variant of COVID-19, particularly when they observed us walking into the restaurant masked.
I’m well aware that this is not mandated in Orange County as it is in Los Angeles County for example; it’s simply commonsense though and you might assume, good for business!
Best Italian in OC. Authentic menu, excellent service!
We invited friends to meet us at Piccolino's, who were there for the first time, and they also loved it as much as we do. Wonderful menu selections on everything, signature cocktails, the wine list, and of course the variety of dishes is a culinary adventure. We each ordered something different and none were disappointed. We've only been there a few times, but can't wait to return and try another new dish. I highly recommend Piccolino's.
My family had a fabulous lunch. The food was amazing and the server and chef went out of their way to make sure that they would prepare something for us even if it was not on the menu to accommodate our liking and tastes. They even served my son a complementary piece of amazing tiramisu for his birthday. It was the first time there for my parents and my son and all cannot wait to go back. 10/10
We try and visit Piccolino’s at least twice a month
It is like a food Oasis from fast food land
Sal is building a Patio to accommodate more of us.
Come and see why so many enjoy Piccolino’s so much.
Tell them the Sea Bass Aficionado sent you
Met friends for dinner, their first time at Piccolino. We all enjoyed delicious dinners, had excellent service, and stayed way too long. Would not hesitate to recommend for a first class experience.
Second time here. Miss Italian for from back east. They do a good juo.
Food was outstanding. The top Italian restaurant anywhere near MV. Service was also very good. Water glasses were always full. I recommend this restaurant highly.
It was great to celebrate my 70th birthday at our favorite Italian restaurant. Food is always excellent. Service as service should be. They are always around filling water glasses, clearing tables and just checking on you. The Sea Bass is the best you’ll ever have while the special pasta with lobster and shrimp with a spicy marinara sauce was excellent. This is an excellent choice for Italian dining.
Never have a complaint. Amazing restaurant
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Our server Javier was terrific. He made suggestions for the wine as well as the food. Our meals were delicious. We ate outside under the tent and it was very pleasant.
The wines are a bit expensive, but they were offering 33% off, so that made it more reasonable.
It’s perfect every visit! It never disappoints 😊
First time here after many rave reviews. Nice vibe. The menu was nice but a bit overpriced. Like Mastro’s pricing but less food. The lamb was amazing. Risotto was too al dente and needed a little more flavor profile. Overall, it was good enough to bring us back in one more time and give them a chance with something different. I really like to support local businesses so I’m hopeful.
Osso Bucco was delicious.
Veal chop was very good, but not the best I've had at this establishment
Antipasti was not up to par as we missed some of the elements that previously made up the large special Antipasti
Food was awesome, service was even better...we had a large party and they went above and beyond to serve us!
Service and food were excellent. Ambiance is lacking. Overall, a really great experience.
Great drinks and good Italian food. Wonderful server but can’t remember her name 🙃
Alway a great experience. The food was wonderful and we look forward to returning.
Evette our server was Excellent as well as the food
Good food good service
The manger terry great guy🙏
