Salvatore Faso opened Piccolino in 2007. A Sicilian by way of Chicago, Faso comes from a family of Italian chefs and restaurateurs. He made a name for himself at Prego before setting off on his own with Piccolino.
In August of 2015he moved to a free-standing building with exponentially nicer decor – it’s now the poshest Italian restaurant in south Orange County. The centerpiece is a beautiful wine vault that surrounds the front entrance. And there’s plenty to show off. Faso has assembled a concise but impressive collection of Italian wines.
Make sure to ask about the veal porterhouse. Chances are nobody’s going to tell you about it unless you bring it up. It’s not on the menu. It’s a secret special that’s always in short supply but usually available for a few orders each night. It is absolutely superb: cut thick, heavily charred around the edges and rosy pink throughout.

Very enjoyable. They had a relatively nice outdoor area set up, would have been nicer inside I'm sure.
Great outside patio. Food and service was great. Quiet atmosphere which is soooo enjoyable
A terrific dining experience for authentic italian cuisine. Excellent wine selection and terrific service. Garrett our waiter was very attentive and provided excellent recommendations.
Highly recommend this restaurant
Food was amazing as always!!! Was very disappointed that our server did not have a mask on when taking our drink order and still no mask or gloves when bringing us the drinks :( finally put one on when taking and bringing our food but no gloves.
Piccolino’s was incredible. The service is amazing and the food is some of the best I’ve ever had. We will be back!!
Awesome! Fantastic as always!
The outside dining is really nice and everybody was socially distance. Food was good however the bruschetta was disappointing. Very little flavor.
We cannot stop talking about this experience! Top to bottom; service, appetizer, salad, entrees, everything was exceptional! We were visiting from Arizona and told our server we will plan a trip around coming back to eat.....we are not kidding!
Fabulous steaks!!! We loved our dinner and service!
Excellent overall! Will be going back very soon. The best grilled salmon I’ve had...
My wife and I went there a few weeks ago for the first time. It had been quite a while since me and the Mrs. were able to go out to dine in a somewhat normal environment. Our server, Joanna, was great. She was attentive without smothering us. She knew the menu well as well as the wine list. The food was great, however, I had one complaint about the squid in k past being over cooked. Other than that, our meal and entire evening was fantastic. Just recently, I went there with a friend and sat at the bar for lunch. Service there was good as well. The owner helped us most of the time. My friend said she was impressed with both the meal and the service. I think her and her fiancé will be there soon.
Overall, a nice experience. We'll be back!
Consistently a cut above in every aspect: menu, service, ambience. Piccolino always offers a wonderful dining experience. A local treasure!
A day without Sea Bass is a day without A great dinner experience
Imagine my dismay when I purposely called for reservations to insure that Sea Bass was available on the evening Menu and they would set one aside for my dinner fare,.
Upon arrival , I asked the Hostess if my Sea Bass was set aside for me, and she said yes, and then excused herself to visit the kitchen...
Next, our waiter arrived to apologize for selling so many Sea Bass the previously evening, that none were currently available.
Trust me, the Sea Bass is worth forgiving them.......
But their rating on this evening was for poor service......
Tomorrow is another day....right Sal?
James the fan of Sea Bass
Sal and his staff have done a great job accommodating those eating inside and outdoors. Always a consistently enjoyable meal and great service you can count on. It’s a great place for everyday dining
We had a reservation, however we sat at a table in the bar. Tina and Leah were prompt, friendly and efficient. We ordered the parmesan risotto for an appetizer, and the Fillet special for the entree both were excellent.
The experience was very Covid friendly.
As always, amazing service and delicious food in the outdoor patio. Our favorite local restaurant never disappoints!
The service was fantastic. Made our anniversary dinner special and the food was delicious! Seriously one of the best meals I’ve had at a restaurant! Will be back for sure :)
Fantastic service, food and experience! We will eat there again soon!
Birthday celebration. Everything was excellent. A couple of minor order errors were quickly resolved and our server was so kind and attentive. Highly recommend.
Delicious food, great atmosphere (even the parking lot) and excellent service. This is fast becoming our go-to for our Italian dinners. Fettuccini Piccolino is incredible!!
Amazing venue for a nice one on one date. Plenty of great options on the menu. Multiple wines to choose from. Will be coming again !
Service was bit slow, but food was well liked by all. $25 corkage fee a bit steep. I tend to decrease tip when corkage is excessive. We brought two bottles and $50 is too much. Lobster ravioli and Veal Picatta were the favorites at the table. Nice people run this place. I will definitely return.
Great neighborhood find.
sea bass and sea bass
The service is wonderful the food outstanding we celebrated A good friend’s 65th birthday party they were nine of us the wine the appetizers the entrées highly recommend this restaurant
Sal the owner is so Accommodating and generous
Fantastic food, fantastic service. Really enjoyed our dinner and evening out at Piccolino
Great ambiance and service. Food is a little pricey for Italian and portion sizes.
The food and wine were superb. The Ossobuco was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The risotto was one of the best I had in years. Hint of zafron and artichokes, cooked al dente. The calamari fritti was great as well as the tiramisu.
The Primitivo wine was deliciuos.
Thought the corkage fee of $25 was excessive for a restaurant that serves mainstream Italian food, which was just okay. Pasta was overcooked and clumped together, garlic bread was lukewarm when served, olive medley was basically one type of love in different sizes. My husband did enjoy his main course, but said the chocolate mousse dessert needed help.
Great food and service. Excellent wine selection.
The foods always amazing. We live in Irvine and didn’t mind the drive this wonderful restaurant. Definitely coming back for more.
Ottimo! Piccolino is always our Go To Italian Restaurant in South Orange County. My husband ordered the Filet and Lobster Ravioli, steak cooked to perfection. I ordered the Tricolore salad, and Grigli Grigliata di Pesce, so amazing! I'll order this again.
The environment is beautiful, the pricing is reasonable and the customer service is unparalleled.
We have enjoyed many many meals here especially the pork chop/Wienerschnitzel which is huge. All the fish fresh and all the help very nice. Great cocktails and the maître d’ especially fun
Excellent Italian dinner and service! Extensive menu to suit any taste from pasta lovers to vegetarians to meat and seafood lovers. Our family enjoyed a wonderful evening with delicious food!
It was our first time at Piccolino and we wanted to love it. The food was not good and our waiter rushed us through dinner even though they were not busy. The cappaccio was pretty good as our starter. The bread was pedestrian and the sauce served in a plastic container was ok. We split a house salad and the lettuce was wilted and dressing had no flavor. The entries were bad. The swordfish was tasteless and served lukewarm. The filet was cooked correctly but flavorless and about 1/4 inch thick. I’m use to filets being about 1.5 inches thick. The lobster ravioli was good. The veggies were very good. After our entrees were served, our waiter did not check on our dinner. We did not eat our dinners. Overall, this was a big disappointment and we won’t return again.
Best Italian food around!
Food service was so slow. It took over an hour to get entree after appetizer was served.
Once again Sal and his staff were wonderful, our server Tina was truly exceptional and the food was perfections....Piccolino is simply the BEST !
Fabulous food, great atmosphere !
