Add to this Pera's offering of regional breads and desserts made in-house with a full array of compatible California wines, Greek, Turkish, and domestic beers. And finally top it all off with Turkish coffee.
Very good food, service and lots of elbow room. Diverse menu will make this your go to restaurant
Not the best place to dine.. service needs to improve and the menu is just mediocre
The food was very good and the portions nicely sized for the price. We had the duck, chicken shish kebabs and the short ribs. The restaurant was quiet as well as family friendly. The Turkish decorations were very attractive.
Great food and excellent service, but the surprise was the excellent Turkish wines! We are wine snobs, and were way impressed.
1 waitress for entire room
The portions are large and should be shared. My duck was served medium well after I ordered it medium rare. The octopus salad was interesting but I would prefer larger slices of octopus.. the octopus was almost minced which meant I had to eat an enormous amount of greens to eat all the octopus. The kitchen needs some help with preparations and timing.
We had a quiet high school graduation lunch for 6 people. We had the restaurant to ourselves and we still got great service. We even stayed beyond the closing time and no one rushed us.
Food was okay. Not bad but not necessarily something I'd go back for. If I was in the area and just needed to grab something, sure, but otherwise the Shakshuka is decent, the lamb kabob was chewy for our liking, humus served warm and was good but its hard to compete when cracked and battered is churning out super flavorful and fresh food across the street.
We had the kebabs. The veggies were plentiful and crunchy. The chicken and lamb were tastefully seasoned and tender. The gelato and sorbet were beautifully presented.
Great neighborhood place. We enjoyed a bottle of zin at half price on a ‘Wine Wednesday.” Walking distance to UCSF Medical Center .
It had been over a year since we dined at Pera, and our experience was consistent with our memories. Service was attentive; the sesame incrusted tuna was excellent. We'll return.
Excellent service and tasty food in a bright happy environment.
Pera, located on Potrero Hill’s 18th Street “restaurant row”, is an always reliable source of delicious, wholesome, and inexpensive Mediterranean cuisine. My dinner companion and I were last there three years ago during another Golden State Warriors playoff series and it was time to return.
Our meal started with a complimentary, fragrant and tasty loaf of home baked bread. We split both appetizers, including Piyaz ($10), a type of fava bean salad, and Halikarnas ($14), a delicious dish with fish, prawns, and scallops in a picante red sauce. Of the two, we both felt that the Halikarnas was a “we must try this again” selection.
We also shared our main courses: salmon filet ($22), which was cooked to order, and the “Bird’s Nest” ($18), a delicious vegetarian combination served in – you guessed it – noodles in the shape of a bird’s nest. Both entrees were excellent.
Our waiter, Deniz, provided the excellent service we have always come to expect at Pera. Our total bill, including tax and tip, came to a reasonable $42 per person. Highly recommended!
Wonderful food, many vegetarian options, easy parking in the neighbourhood
It's such a lovely neighborhood spot. The service is warm and friendly and our family loves going there for brunch.
Delicious healthy food. Very warm and helpful staff.
The food looked great but the flavor just wasn't there. We started with the octopus salad, which was pleasantly spiced differently than what you would find in Greece or Italy, but it lacked the large pieces of octopus you would find in an octopus salad in those countries and didn't contain much octopus to begin with. Then my friend and I split the duck and swordfish kabob special. The duck was good, but there was nothing special about the sauce, spicing, or treatment. The kale and potatoes it came with were distinctly average. The swordfish kabob special looked great when it arrived at the table, and the portion of swordfish was generous, but the visible spicing had little impact on the flavor. The spinach side was probably the best thing we tasted, but the special also came with the same potatoes as the duck, which were like breakfast potatoes. The service was friendly, and the wine and beer list decent, but there really wasn't anything that stood out that would bring us back. I will look to try one of the other interesting looking restaurants in the neighborhood the next time I'm out in Portrero Hill.
Great service, friendly staff and food was excellent.
Martin and his staff were kind, attentive, and friendly. And the food was delicious. I would highly recommend sharing the small plates
Spring break led us here with 4 kids in tow at 7:30 pm... not sure what we were thinking. However, the experience, service, taste, and ambience made for a fantastic evening. The staff were ever so gracious, as my experience, kids are not always met with a welcoming eye, yet, Pera was exceptional. Other than a few shrieks from my one year old and my older kids wanting to eat all the food( including mine ) our kids behaved and we had a great night out in the city. Definitely a treasure eatery, we will try to make it back again, but as a date night sans kids.
Foods: if you like octopus, the octopus salad is A+!
You can never go wrong with the shish kebabs, but I had their special of Tuna Shish kabobs on a bed of creamed spinach and grilled potato’s, they should always have that one*!
Thanks again Pera for a great night out on the town!
Was a lovely anniversary dinner..think they just opened so was very slow. But food was great. Inventive and very tasty. Especially the grilled cheese with date ( wish there were more dates). Salmon and steak were delicious and argula salad was also delicious. We will definitely be back xoxo thanks again for a perfect date night
Pera was a nice find. We went for the first time. The booking was for 3 persons but they could accommodate an extra guest even while the restaurant was full. They were serving both brunch and lunch, which made it easier to enjoy various selections. We had some vegetarians in our group who found good selections as well.
All our food came together which was great! The portion sizes were appropriate, not too small, nor too large. The food was well seasoned and the accompanying sauce or dressings were generously portioned but placed on the side. So one could indulge as needed. The service was efficient and smooth.
We enjoyed our lunch and would recommend it to others. I’m sure we will revisit again.
Authentic, fresh, tasty - like eating in the Mediterranean (but no beach or sea)
Half bottle Wednesday! Great meal large portions
I brought 7 others here to introduce my friends to the deliciousness that is Turkish breakfast. Other than a friend’s dish being forgotten and coming out much later than the others’, everything was excellent. If I were the restaurant manager, I would have comped that dish. Oh well. Like I said, everything else (including the late dish when it finally arrived) was excellent, so I will definitely be back often. Service was good; the food was delicious—friends who didn’t get the Harem breakfast for two, which is what I recommended to everyone, definitely regretted it, but they were still happy with their choices. As a Turk, I can say that this is authentic Turkish breakfast (of course, it would cost much less in Turkey, but we aren’t in Turkey and that’s the point—it’s worth every penny to be able to get the food I miss here in San Francisco). Highly recommend it. Great birthday breakfast spot!
Great food and great service. My reservation was at 6:45 on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty empty when I sat down, but it quickly filled and had a great atmosphere. I'd recommend the flaming halloumi cheese with medjool dates, although I wish it came with more dates!
Tasty food. Great service.
Excellent food and excellent service. Highly recommend. We absolutely will be back. The Iskender he was brilliant. Really everything we had was great.
Pera is our neighborhood jewel. Beautiful, calm ambiance; really delicious food; generous portions; caring service and excellent value. The people who own this restaurant really care, and their pride shows. It is a pleasure to support them (we take all our friends here).
One of the best Turkish restaurants I've ever been to. Great food and under priced in my opinion.
Loved it! Hosts were very pleasant. Atmosphere was romantic and low-key. Food was authentic and delicious! Recommend the manti and dessert.
Food was good but the simit was dry and not fresh.
Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious -- burrata & pear, octopus salad, spanakopita, dipping trio, kofte, halikarnas, Pera talas boregi, manti, Iskender, and of course the amazing bird nest. Yes all for the four of us. Oh and don't forget dessert!
Excellent Mediterranean food, well prepared. Service good even at busy dinner times. Street parking not hard to find.
Party of 5 1 dish way over cooked and 1 dish at least 15 minutes after everyone else served
In terms of Greek food taste was bland
Delicious lamb burger with tasty sauteed potatoes and very nice service.
Pera is one of the best Turkish/Mediterranean restaurants in the Bay Area, if not the best. I have also tried their brunch menu before and very satisfied. Nice people, good service and yummy food. I must have been there at least 6-7 times now.
Menu looked great and we had some tasty meals. Two comments - service was slow on a non busy night and some of the food came out luke warm. I am more than happy to give another shot and know service could be better especially given the tasty food.
Food was absolutely delicious. We definitely will be back ;-)
We had an early reservation so there were not many people there and it was quiet. Very good menu with a number of options. Let us taste wine to choose. Ambiance was good, staff attentive. Found parking close by.
