The scallops were a bit over salted. I would have appreciated receiving the wine/beverage service prior to receiving the food menu. We were seated next to serving cart and listened to the wait staff chat all night. I didn't enjoy the mini courses between the main courses. The hostess and door man were extremely polite and helpful and the overall experience delightful. We appreciated the special anniversary desert. Thank you!
The Penrose Room truly deserves 5 stars. It is expensive and worth it for a special meal in a fabulous setting. We were there on a beautiful December evening and witnessed a gentle snow flurry from the large windows at the 9th floor level. Plan on a leisurely meal with impeccable service.
Costs are very high and portions.very small. I have had better tasting food at the local diner.
The Penrose Room is an exceptional dining experience in Colorado Springs. Everything we had was top-notch, and the service is the best. I wish I'd been hungrier ... I would have done the chef's tasting menu. It looked divine.
The Penrose Lounge was the best. Loved it. The restaurant left much to be desired especially compared to expectations. 1. elevator was locked until 5:45. We had to wait in the South bldg lobby for 15 minutes. 2. Only about ten tables occupied. All we grouped into one tight corner of the dining room. Added to the noise level and made the dinner less private. Too many different tastes with the four chef's "gift" tastings plus the three course meal.
We won't be back.
We’ve been going to the Penrose Room for over 40 years and have seen many changes. After a bit of a bumpy start the new management, wait staff and chef have put all the pieces together again. A true 5 Star and 5 Diamond experience. No other restaurant like it in the USA and possibly the world. Make sure your there for the live music and singer for the full experience and bring your dancing shoes....you won’t be disappointed.
Love to come up there. Been doing it for years. Love the attention and service that is given.
We celebrate my wife's birthday here every year and it only gets better each time.
Mario was the quintessential server. His knowledge of the menu and his expertise with the wine menu made our experience over the top. The trio played spot on and tight music and the dance floor was the place to be.
If you get a chance to visit, ask for Mario to be your server and for James to prepare your tableside Banana's Foster.
Penrose Room went above and beyond in every category. From taking our coats at the beginning to calling us by our names upon greeting us. Every time we thought we knew what was coming next they’d surprise us with a mid course little nugget to cleanse the palate and highlight the skills of the chef and his entourage. An exceptional night!
The Penrose Room experience is summed up in a single word: Amazing.
The service and food were outstanding. This was our third time to the Penrose Room. We have never been disappointed. It has become my favorite place for memorable very special occasions.
Extraordinary. Very pricey, but at this level, you get what you pay for. Exceptional food and ambience exceeded only by the service.
Food was excellent and the staff were very professional
everything was perfect!
Disappointing food. I had fois gras, which was old and didn't have a very good taste. Then for main dish, I had the venison, that was tough meat, and drenched in a glaze that was way too sweet. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
The menu prices are not for the faint of heart. The portions are relatively small but that’s no problem as many places supersize their meals. This is a special place and well worth a visit at least once. The abundant servers are quite young and lack the polish of more experienced servers in high end restaurants.
Service was as great as it gets. Duck was not good but appetizers and dessert were excellent. Wine was overpriced but great selection.
"Two couples were celebrating a birthday and anniversary. The service was slow and inattentive at first. We had to flag down a bus boy to ask to be waited on to get drinks. The sommelier came over to help. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and the wine list extensive. We ordered quite a range of appetizers and mains. Without exception, the food was shockingly mediocre. One of the asparagus appetizers was so tough that it couldn't be cut with the knife provided. The beef dish was cooked properly, but almost tasteless. The duck dish was not crispy and had no special flavor. It was like it was cooked in advance and served from a hot table. Two ordered chicken piccata. Neither tasted like piccata. They knew we were unhappy and didn't charge for one of the wines and brought extra deserts. One tasted like chicken. We were very disappointed and will not go back."
Simply outstanding. Creative and inspiring food. Exceptional service. Worth every penny!
One of the best meals I have ever had. We go to a lot of nice high end expensive restaurants. A lot of them feel the same and are of the caliber. Penrose is well above the norm. Absolutely amazing. We highly recommend this restaurant. It's one of those places that you should put on your bucket list.
Outstanding service, they go above and beyond to serve you. Knowledgeable staff that really assist you with questions about the dishes and drinks. The food is fantastic, perfect serving sizes, complex flavors artistically plated. Every bite is an adventure. The view is amazing during sunset and at night, great atmosphere and live music. Everything aboy the Penrose room lives up to expectations and beyond. Definitely worth experiencing at least once in your life. I know that I will be returning.
Wondering dishes that test your pallet. Great wine pairings. Great service.
Gorgeous restaurant with views of the mountains from the dining room and bar, old world ambiance with inventive modern cuisine beautifully prepared and presented, superb service and wine steward. Highly recommended if you are staying at the Broadmoor or in the area. Dancing to the piano duet was a plus and the night we were there many couples were dancing which adds to the fun.
This restaurant was impressive in all aspects: service, cuisine, atmosphere, attention to details and the views! They earned their Forbes 5 Star and AAA 5 Diamond ratings. We chose this restaurant to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary!
Came for our 15th anniversary. Wow. Everything is simply wow. You won't find a better staff. Food is unmatched. We will be back.
Outstanding tasting menu with incredible wine pairings.
If it’s an anniversary, special date or birthday, this IS the spot.
This was a very special evening for us being our 45th Wedding Anniversary. We were treated like Royalty. The wait staff was extremely attentive and responsive to our every need. Fine linens and crystal greeted us as we were seated. We then embarked on an adventure in dining. The staff made sure we had the best of everything and spent a lot of time explaining dishes and wines. We opted for the three course dinner but there is also a 5 course tasting dinner chosen by the chef for your pleasure. Each course was preceded with a small starter to prepare you for the course and the starters were almost better than the courses them selves. The table was reset with silver and plates required for the next course. It was enjoyable watching the wait staff as they were constantly in motion in very choreographed duties as they performed their duties for each of the diners. It was an evening that we will never forget. Oh, by the way. The food was superb. I had the cucumber gazpacho, the roast duck and the PP&J desert (a chocolate wonder). We had very simple tastes in wine but the Sommelier was available to help you with your selections. Everyone there was gracious and helpful. This evening was worth every penny.
For a $650 dinner, I wasn’t expecting the wine pairing to include a glass from a $20 bottle that I’ve previously bought at a gas station liquor store. I wish that was an exaggeration.
Most of the food was great, with the exception of the main course, a steak that neither my husband nor I ate more than a couple bites of.
Dinner was rushed. The food was very good with a chefs tasting. It presented several great dishes that were lost when the "slab of bacon on baked beans" was served. I expected a slow leisurely pace with a variety of fine small dishes. It was ok at best.
Needless to say, this was a superb meal in a singular atmosphere.
The chef and staff were in their elements this evening. The dinner had a light but complex flavor and texture. Each time our utensils left the plate was an adventure! The dining staff were well-informed and their hospitality was welcomed. I can think of nothing that could be realistically improved. Our special occasion was indeed special and we felt we had experienced a Colorado landmark.
We dined here recently while staying at the Broadmoor, and were hoping for a romantic couples dinner. The ambience was nice - there was a live jazz band playing. The food, however, fell short of our expectations. One of us ordered the octopus and it was so overdone it was inedible and had to be returned. The other courses were okay but not up to the standard that the restaurant claims it has. The service was acceptable but not comparable to the nice restaurants we've frequented in NYC. Overall, the very expensive meal and experience was disappointing.
The Penrose room exceeded our expectations which were high, As normally the price was well above our restaurant budget range. However, the food was so beautiful and delicious, the service impeccable, our table had a wonderful view of the mountains and unexpectedly, the musicians were playing our favorite music, Brazilian jazz. I suspect, just like the service staff, they read our minds! It was a lovely memorable evening. Worth eating at home for the rest of the month.
Celebrated a very special occasion with my wife. It was the perfect environment and the food was excellent. Made the occasion memorable. Would highly recommend the Penrose Room for its charm and outstanding service.
Was by far the best food and dinning experience of my life! Everyone was so nice and attentive! They fully deserve the 5 star 5 diamond rating!
The Broadmoor lives up to its name. Ambiance is unsurpassed. Service is extraordinary.
Service was outstanding. We did the three course menu as we were not impressed with the evening's tasting menu. All of the food was delicious, but the squash appetizer and the main course duck breast are worth mentioning specifically! The sommelier recommended a wonderful wine that went perfectly with our food. If you are visiting from out of town, it's worth the stop. Decor is very antique, but it is still upscale. There was a nice piano and string duo playing and later a singer, so we were able to dance after dinner as well.
Foodies should avoid this restaurant. Poorly prepared - my bread roll was burnt, not an exaggeration - uninspiring, overpriced food of questionable quality. The wine list was nonexistent and the service was phoned in. When our pork main dish was brought out our server described a dish with ahi tuna. That sums up the evening.
The portion sizes of the protein items in the 7 course meals were very large. They'd have been good if we weren't getting 7 portions. Also, some of the accouterments didn't complement the dishes even though they may have looked nice on the plate. We didn't receive the attention to the wine service we'd hoped for and it turns out the sommelier either wasn't around or was unavailable during our dinner. Other than that lack of service, everyone else was very accommodating and friendly.
The Penrose Room service was everything we expected from a restaurant of this reputation. What was unexpected was the innovative food and menu. We had not realized that the Penrose Room had embraced the newer styles of creative cuisine - we were ready for old and stodgy.
We will be back
