Service and ambiance are stellar. The food just isn’t quite there. Steaks were good but not great. Venison was cooked perfectly but presented on a plate of veggies that had obviously been under a lamp too long. Scallops were too rare. The bar needs to be set much higher for $200pp plus wine.
This is always a special place for our family. We love to be able to eat a nice dinner and dance in between courses. It's always fantastic night!
Eric the wine sommelier was amazing as was the rest of staff. Food was great but service by everyone really made experience 5 star.
From the time we arrived, we knew it was going to be excellent. The chef prepared each course perfectly and we were directed with a wine pairing that was spot on. We will definitely return for another special occasion in the future.
Impeccable service. The wait staff was quite attentive and very accommodating. For what you spend on a diner I would expect things to go flawless and of course they did. The pace was nice and diner spanned about 3 hours for us to enjoy the full chef's tasting menu and wine pairing. The trio playing added a quiet intimate ambiance that paired equally as well with the evening. What a treat to eat here.
While this is based on a temporary Sunday brunch experience while the usual room is under remodeling, whether it is for that or the usual dinner service that makes Penrose Room one of the top restaurants in the state. Amazing cuisine, perfect service and ambience but note to millennials: put the t-shirt and jeans away; they have a dress code. Thankfully. When you consider everything, including a fantastic wine list, it's a great value-for-money in a true world-class restaurant.
Absolutely the best fine dining experience my boyfriend and I had for our anniversary
Everything about evening was excellent - a real treat! Thank you Broadmoor.
My husband and I went to dinner at The Penrose Room this past Thursday evening and all we can say is we have never experienced anything like it. The ambiance is so classy and relaxing. The service is some of the best we have ever had. Our server was amazing at guiding us throughout the evening on what to eat and drink. Oh and the live music was wonderful! I would tell anyone that this is a must try while staying at the Broadmoor!
I am really torn about writing this review. I have been wanting to try the Penrose Room for many years. I am not one to write bad reviews, but I was sooooo disappointed. They were having a Colorado Resident Special. This was a 3 course meal for about $65. I felt as though we were treated like second class citizens. I would have paid full price!! It took a long time for anyone to approach our table. When we finally got some attention we got a drink and then we ordered. We had 7:30 reservations and they were trying to rush us through. I asked to have everything slowed down. I ordered a steak and it was cold. You can get a better steak at the Tavern (at the Broadmoor). The Somalia was very kind, welcoming and good. The room is very pretty. One person in my party said they felt like this would be a room on the Titanic. The trio that played was good. Food was just not good and we did not feel welcome. So sad!! At least I can check that off my list.
Outstanding everything! Levi, our server was gracious, engaging and attentive.
Beautiful location, great views, fantastic food and service, pleasant atmosphere with live music.
Although the three servers assigned to my table dutifully kept my water glass filled, it took 10 minutes, when I was half way through my salad, for one of the servers to offer fresh ground pepper, which the bland caesar dressing desperately needed. My steak was not even close to how I requested it, yet it took another 10 minutes for one of the servers to inquire on our entrees, so I could send my steak back. Then, what should have been prioritized by the chef, clearly was placed at the back of the line, because, although the restaurant wasn't even half-full, my steak took another 30 minutes to return. In the interim, I was offered a small custard so I wasn't just watching my husband finish his entree. However, by the time my entree returned, his entree had long ago been cleared, leaving me to eat alone. This was our first experience at the Penrose Room, a special occasion to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We definitely didn't have the eagerly anticipated "five-star" experience, and can't recommend it.
Everything was perfect. From the Valet to the Host to the Wait Staff to the EXCELLENT food. If you want perfection, dine at the Penrose Room. Nothing better.
Memorable. The only true 5 star restaurant in Colorado. Views, service and exceptional food
If you are going to offer bottomless Mamosa’s, you shouldn’t have to track down your waitress every time you would like a refill. I watched her refill another tables drinks probably 10 times, after waving her down, she came to our table 3 times. That is disappointing when you are paying that much for a meal. Have had much better service other places. I’m sure the other table were “regulars” but she would walk right past our table every time she was going to theirs. Would have been very easy to refill our drinks, or at least take notice that we had empty drinks for quite a while before trying to get her attention. It was frustrating that the tip is added in, if you have to work for your tip, it is much more insentivising.
Great staff. Great food.
Not just like eating at a nicer restaurant - it's its own experience unlike any other!
We had a wonderful evening with delicious food. Table spacing is nice so you feel like you could talk privately as well as not hear others conversations.
Great Valentine’s celebration
The designation as a Forbes 5 star and AAA Five diamond restaurant is undeserved. The lobster my wife ordered was tough. The cod I ordered was too salty. I have had better food at restaurants charging a quarter of the price. Don't waste your money. Go to Seasons 52 in Denver and have a wonderful meal for about $80.
Dining st the Penrose Room is always a delightful experience. It is not often we can afford this level of dining, but are always more than pleased.
We celebrated our 25th anniversary recently at the Penrose Room. A Five-Diamond restaurant equates to excellent food, service and ambiance. The Penrose delivered on all 3 elements and we are already talking about a return visit. The only reason for 4 stars on the food was because of a bit too much salt
on the salmon glaze and much too much salt in the butter sauce on the Dover Sole. Other than that, we loved the food. Service was excellent from start to finish. We expected to be entertained over a 3 hour period for the evening and we sure were.
Service is exquisite and the live entertainment was the perfect amount of ambiance and not too loud. The food was excellent and the wine list extensive.
Perhaps it was just what I ordered, but the food was not amazing as I hoped it would've been. My date had no complaints, which I guess is a good thing. I called ahead to make sure of the dress code required to dine, I was told evening attire for women and suits for men. Imagine my embarrassment when I wore a floor length evening gown and other women in the dining room were wearing basic sweaters and plain jane skirts. I would recommend Penrose room to someone who simply wanted the service and experience. The waitstaff were spectacular, granted I did not like waiting 25 mins to put in for a cocktail. Maybe that's normal, I wouldn't know as it was my first time in a 5 star restaurant. Regardless I expected to be amazed as it was my 25th birthday.
5 star / 5 diamond says it all. Perfect in every way.
Elegant gourmet dining with nice music and a wonderful view
Food and service were excellent however there must have been a problem in the kitchen. We had 7:30 pm reservations but by 9:00 had only just received our salad. It took almost another hour to get our entree. Food when it finally came was delicious. There were plenty of wait staff and they were all excellent but not sure the wait was worth it all.
Staff were knowledgeable and nice. Food was excellent.
Absolutely amazing! Sunday Brunch was fantastic. The service impeccable. Can’t wait to return.
Great except the old carpet triggered my allergy problem. Also the short ribs were a little too salty. Lobster was great. Service was great. Food was good, music and ambiance was great.
We've been to the Penrose Room twice. Both experiences were top notch fine dining. We were provided excellent service, exceptional food and drink choices that were expertly prepared. The jazz trio is perfectly balanced for the room. A dance floor is available and the music is provides both entertainment and ambiance for the evening.
Very special restaurant with outstanding staff and great food
The Penrose was so very disappointing. The food was ok but not great. The pate was so cold it was not edible. The portion sizes were ridiculously small. Our service was just ok, not on par for the expensive meal. It should have rivaled other restaurants with professional waiters instead ours was a young woman who had only been in COS for six months or so. In short, they were no different than waiters at the Olive Garden.
The bill came with a 20% gratuity already added. We had a table of four.
I would never recommend the Penrose for a dining experience. It is so highly overrated.
The scallops were a bit over salted. I would have appreciated receiving the wine/beverage service prior to receiving the food menu. We were seated next to serving cart and listened to the wait staff chat all night. I didn't enjoy the mini courses between the main courses. The hostess and door man were extremely polite and helpful and the overall experience delightful. We appreciated the special anniversary desert. Thank you!
Just Awesome!! I went there expecting a 5 star experience but was fighting the urge and I lost the fight because it was awesome!
The Penrose Room truly deserves 5 stars. It is expensive and worth it for a special meal in a fabulous setting. We were there on a beautiful December evening and witnessed a gentle snow flurry from the large windows at the 9th floor level. Plan on a leisurely meal with impeccable service.
Costs are very high and portions.very small. I have had better tasting food at the local diner.
The Penrose Room is an exceptional dining experience in Colorado Springs. Everything we had was top-notch, and the service is the best. I wish I'd been hungrier ... I would have done the chef's tasting menu. It looked divine.
The Penrose Lounge was the best. Loved it. The restaurant left much to be desired especially compared to expectations. 1. elevator was locked until 5:45. We had to wait in the South bldg lobby for 15 minutes. 2. Only about ten tables occupied. All we grouped into one tight corner of the dining room. Added to the noise level and made the dinner less private. Too many different tastes with the four chef's "gift" tastings plus the three course meal.
We won't be back.
