Sign inside the door said seat yourself, but because we had reserved with Open Table we went to the bar to inquire about our reservation....a young lady said she would take a look around and be back for us. She seated us in a dark back corner that was crowded with tables and chairs, we had to move furniture around to be able to sit! We should have seated ourselves as there were several tables we passed by that were much nicer than this one. The ladies beside us said they had been there for 3 hours already and were waiting for their bill. The service was slow, when the meals came they were small & not very well presented....the Sherpherds Pie was served right in the oblong pan it was cooked in, which was fine, but the plate it was put on was not much bigger than it so seemed very small; it was more mashed potatoes than anything else. The Chicken Pot Pie came on a large plate but looked lonely, just the pot pie in a footed bowl with a blob of mashed potatoes a few inches away on the plate, then a couple of slices of carrots on top of the mashed. Both dishes had a similar flavour...the Shepherds Pie did have a large piece of a bay leaf in it, that may have been the common flavour. By the time the second glass of wine came around we were done our meal and ready to go, so was not an enjoyable drink! Got very busy just after we arrived, very noisy and crowded!

Food Is generally okay but pricey and small portions. My friend ordered steamed mussels for $18 and only received four. Read the wine list carefully; wine can be $18 a glass. Good atmosphere and well decorated. Table server was great; accommodating and fast, friendly service

We had a very enjoyable evening, with delicious food in a cosy booth. The only complaint we have is that there was a draught coming from the fireplace and apparently the fire cannot be lit. Suggest covering it up as it was a bit cool for people on the end seats.

Penny Farthing is a classic British pub located in the heart of Oak Bay. The food is generally good and the service is remarkable given how busy the restaurant is. Make reservations if you want to get in on a weekend. The restaurant fills up quickly even at an early hour.

Went for a pint with a couple friends Nov 1st and the interior was wonderful. Like a traditional English pub, complete with personal touches and all. The server, despite being the only one there that afternoon/evening, was talkative, kind, and accommodating. The atmosphere was great, beer was fantastic, they also had an excellent selection of scotch I wanted to get into but my friends called it in for the night before i had s chance to.

Definitely a place I want to revisit.

We had a fun evening!! , the only complaint was we ordered a drink before 6pm but the order did not go in till after 6pm so we did not get the HH discount. The server was friendly and helpful, we would definitely go back again.

Pub did not honour the reservation, we a table of 6 cramped at seated 15 minutes late at a table for 4. We were told they don't honour reservations taken after 4 because "No one checks the reservation system" which was really a poor excuse. We were sat facing the Beer Menu and we tried to order 5 different beers only to be told they were out of them all and "we don't have time to change the menu" over all a really poor experience, food wasn't great and very priced, terrible ceaser salad - costs $2 extra and there is less to it than the regular green salad. Wont go back and will not recommend to others

Service is generally good here. Food is uneven. Some dishes are good. Others not. You need to know what to order. The steak and frites are always good. We like the Penny Farthing as it is our neighbourhood pub and a good destination for a casual dinner.

Friendly, professional service - great menu and food and drinks. Wish the WC was not in the basement though.

We had a large group, but were shoved in the corner right next to the live band. The speaker luckily wasn't too loud, but still distracting. The food was expensive for what we got and half of the food came out late.

We have found the food at the Penny Farthing previously to be poor (we haven't been for a period of time). But, the last two occasions we've been there, we've had the steak and frites which have been great! I don't know whether the quality of the food in general has improved or whether we've stumbled on a dish that they do well. I guess we'll have to go and try something else to see.

The venue was laid out like a traditional English pub. The food was served timely but it took ages to get a menu

Normally we find the food to be less than good. But, to our surprise the steak and frites to be excellent!

Having tried to find a local place with really delicious meals for the value, and a comfortable location to meet and dine with friends, we have decided that Penny Farthing is our "local".

Excellent pub food. Really good and friendly service no complaints except its really noisy and hard to hold a conversation over the music. Albeit I enjoy Paul O'Brien and his family's music.
The salad niciose was one of the best I've had in Canada!
