   I am a local and whenever I am asked for the "best restaurant in Charleston," I always recommend Peninsula Grill. I have dined thereany times with my wife, often celebrating an occasion. Starting in the bar (great and amicable bar tenders) right through the famous coconut cake dessert (do they have other choices because I never look). They only ding this time was a slightly indifferent male host. He ended up being fine. Upon check in, he grabbed the menus and just walked away. Was not sure if we should follow. He did it twice. A simple "please follow me" is what I typically hear. Very hard to find any thing to complain about with the jewel of downtown Charleston.

   Excellent in every way…lobster 3 ways, scallops, ribeye Oscar. Expensive.

   We were very excited to celebrate my birthday at the Peninsula Grill but were very disappointed in the service from several staff members (maitre'd & bartender). Overall the food was good but with the exception of my husband's steak all the food was served cold. We will not return in the future.

   Wonderful place….and consistently one of Charleston best. However SEWE crowd quite noisy and a bit hard to have conversation with guests. Food flavor, presentation and creativity outstanding….however this time my ribeye was overcooked and not appropriate to complain as I was showcasing restaurant to CHA’s 1st time guests

   The food was good, service was not. I had MICH better service at the Establisment and spent $200 less. The service really does make the experience.

   Overall experience was good. The She Crab soup with Sherry drizzle was an excellent beginning to the meal. Unfortunately, the 16 oz Ribeye steak was very disappointing. It was extremely tough and had been seared to the point of being burnt on the outside. On the bright side, my wife’s 8 oz Filet was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. Finished the evening with the famous coconut cake which was delicious. Service was outstanding.

   Ate here last time I was in Charleston and it was wonderful. The return trip? Well not so much. The She crab soup was average. The swordfish, absolutely tasteless, overcooked and dry. The sauce served with it also tasteless. I liked the vegetables though. Bad night? Chef off? hard to explain the difference.

    The Peninsula Grill has been my favorite fine dining restaurant in downtown Charleston since 1998 ( I moved to Charleston in 1997 and visited the Peninsula on advice from a co-worker). Continued excellence over an extended time is very difficult. There are some fine restaurants in Charleston to choose from. Honestly, it would be hard to go wrong with numerous established restaurants. This is the one I choose for celebrations, special events, holidays, etc. It's simply a cut above.
