Executive chef: Courtney Van Dyke

From the OpenTable editors: It’s always a special time at Peninsula Grill, a AAA Four Diamond Restaurant inside Charleston’s historic Planters Inn. Start with a drink in the Champagne bar before taking a seat in the brick courtyard surrounded by Palmetto trees and carriage lanterns. The Lowcountry menu offers elegant seafood towers, thick steaks and chops, and the Opulent Spud topped with caviar and gold leaf. Don’t miss the signature 12-layer coconut cake and the award-winning wine list.

The service was superb. All of the food was amazing. My only disappointment was the fried oysters. Three oysters in the half shell, is not exactly what I was expecting.

Peninsula Grill didn’t disappoint - we have been tons of times over the past 6 years and this past experience the food was amazing - we had the mussels with curry and peanut sauce - it was fabulous - and the steak was cooked to perfection and delicious - a very lovely evening with great food and atmosphere

PG is our go-to restaurant for special occasions. Recently, we celebrated two birthdays there and, as always, the service was impeccable and the food was divine. Special shout out to Lawrence, the consummate professional, who makes the dining experience even greater.

Our waitress seemed preoccupied and only checked on us a handful of times. Everything is extremely overpriced for the portion you get. The Diver Scallops were less than medium in size and the plate only had 3. It came with 2 braised leeks and cold shaved celery & thinly sliced apples. NOT A GOOD combo at all. The beef carpaccio was served with a heaping pile of arugula that was smothered in dressing and a very small amount of shaved parmasan. The pieces of toasted grilled bread were overly buttered/oiled. The filet was supposed to be an 8 oz but looked smaller and it was overly salted. The whipped potato side was so chincy for the price. Amuse bouche was so uncreative and cheap: a very thin slice of raw cucumber with a tiny dollop of creme fraiche dill and caviar. The bread they served was a fresh baked yeast style roll similar in taste of a Hawaiian roll. It was a good roll but the sweet flavor did'nt lend well with dinner. The manager did stop over and asked how our meal was and he got the truth. Not that we wanted a meal for free but he never offered to take anything off. The only offer was free dessert, which was overpriced. The bill for two, with two drinks and gratuity was $280.00. Value to portion was poor. This place at one time was the top place to go in downtown. It doesn't hold the hype at all and is overpriced.

Food was top notch and the service impeccable. Shrimp cocktail was perfect and diver scallops the best we’ve ever had. The cake, of course, was amazing! We will be back for sure.

We always go to the Peninsula Grill for our anniversary and had a wonderful experience last night. The food was incredible. Ben, our server, did not rush us and provided outstanding service. For a special event, I would highly recommend Peninsula Grill.

Hostess, bartender and somilier did a Great job! Our disappointment is that they were out of several of our favorite food items! But what was really bad was to have to send our check back 3 times for over charges! The soup was terrible but the oysters and potatoes were great!
