Always a wonderful experience. Great service from Chris. Expertly prepared scallop and duck entrees. The mushrooms and shallots not to be missed.
The service was impeccable! Our filets were cooked perfectly to the right temperature. We dined with two small children, which I would not recommend, since attending to them takes away from the dining experience. The restaurant is upscale and quiet. Great place for a date. Sommelier in house to help with wine selection is a plus.
It was very presentable ans great service
Great food, great service, great outdoor seating.
We celebrated our anniversary at Peninsula Grill and really enjoyed the ambiance of the outdoor dining area. The baked oysters and she crab soup were delicious, though the lobster 3-way appetizer definitely needed some salt- it lacked any seasoning and tasted disappointingly bland. The new york strip was cooked perfectly and the brandy peppercorn sauce was wonderful. The black grouper was undercooked, while the lobster tail was very overcooked and chewy- again very bland. We were surprised to find out the offered Pellegrino at the beginning was not complimentary as a water option and cost us $8 - seemed unnecessary for an almost $300 dinner for two. We were also disappointed by the aggressively suggestive selling of our server- she desperately tried to sell us more wine and missed timing cues of other points of service from that respect. My wife is a beverage director and sommelier and had she not recently found out we were expecting, she would've been more than happy to order us wine throughout the evening from the extensive list. As it was, she nursed a glass of champagne throughout dinner and was very put off by our server repeatedly asking if she'd like another when it was still three-quarters full. When we received our bill, her $22 glass of champagne was on the bill as $28 (an option not even on the menu?) and my wife was unsure she had even received the right champagne as our server was very flustered when asked about it. To be honest, we were surprised by the lack of finesse of the service and blatant attempts to upsell (without educating or going into specifics of WHY we should try the madeira flight, etc- merely pointing to it and not explaining why it was special won't sell you any four oz $175 dessert wine flights.) For the expected caliber of this fine dining restaurant, the food was hit and miss. We come to Charleston for a week annually, and prefer so many other restaurants for their food, service, and ambiance. Get a slice of the coconut cake to go.
Excellent food and service. Atmosphere was elegantly romantic. Thanks!!
They never acknowledged our celebration.
Phenomenal menu and service!
However, the wine list had very few Calif wines, and was very French wine laden, and very high prices.
They need to add more fine Calif, Washington and Oregon wines.
Great Service, fabulous food, loved the ambience.
Outstanding experience! Food prepared just right. Coconut cake was worth the hype. Service good.
First, the food was great. Our server however, made a very rude remark to my friend. She ordered soup and potatoes while the rest of our party ordered appetizer and entrees. The server said “that’s what you’re having for dinner?” After she said what she was ordering it. He said it in a way that made her, and my whole party, think that he was belittling her.
The table was never crumbed, the servers didn’t move our plates out of the way when they brought food, they expected us to move plates around. At a different but comparable restaurant, they combed the tables, moved our plates kindly to make room for the next plates they brought out, and even served our sides to us from the main plate onto ours. Our server didn’t stop by often enough, and I noticed the other servers took a long time to flip tables. Overall, I didn’t enjoy my experience.
The food and service were outstanding. The crab cake is a most try. Best venison!
Excellent service. Everyone was kind and courteous. Our server was prompt with our order and drinks. It was our wedding day and we are happy to have chosen an exquisite restaurant to celebrate our special day. Thank you!
It was a very nice evening , great food, great table and wonderful service.
We went for my birthday, and even though an accident made us an hour late, they held our table and were glad to see us when we finally walked in. The food was superb. I’m sure it was the best filet I’ve had in Charleston. Of course it had to be finished with a piece of their coconut cake. It didn’t disappoint. Will be returning.
The dining experience was absolutely amazing. Charleston’s best restaurant, bar none!
Excellent food and service. A bit pricey but worth it. Drinks were fabulous!!
Great experience! Amazing service and food prep
The food was delicious and our server, Delia, was her usual friendly, funny self. I have to admit, I prefer the social distancing as the noise was lower and the feeling more relaxing.
Requested outside or courtyard. Got inside table where we could see a table sit empty for over the hour we were there
Great place to celebrate during a babymoon!
Very nice location with excellent service and food. Coconut cake topped it off.
Great experience, thanks to Jessica and the host. The food, cocktails, and coconut cake was great. :)
What a fantastic meal! Great food and excellent service. Our server, who was just wonderful, arranged to have our dessert decorated for my husbands upcoming birthday.
Highly recommend! Extraordinary service and delicious food well worth the price. Dessert included.
We have been patronizing this restaurant for almost five years and have found it to be consistently wonderful in both food and service.
Great overall dining experience. Our food seemed to take longer to be served than guests that came in behind us. The waiter was apologetic and comp us a delicious piece of coconut cake for our wait.
We dined here on October 30th for our wedding anniversary. We had high expectations and were not disappointed. The tables were appropriately spaced for these times and we felt comfortable with the room. We each ordered different salads and then had the same entree, the scallops with lobster. As a side we added a single order of the asparagus. All items were outstanding.
For refreshment we started with two glasses of Veuve Clicquot and followed with two glasses of the Sauvignon Blanc. None disappointed. And of course we shared a piece of the legendary coconut cake with after dinner liqueur for a wonderful final touch.
Based upon other reviews I was expecting a rather large bill. Having had many excellent meals in NYC and London, the bill I received seemed quite reasonable. I guess it is all relative.
The service was impeccable. And we were given good wishes for our anniversary by many of the staff. Nothing more could have been done to make our special event any better.
It was our first time at this restaurant. We plan not to make it our last.
We had a table for six and everyone present enjoyed their meal. The service was exceptional and personal everyone there enjoyed the event
The Peninsula lives up to its name and reputation. She crab soup is generally good, but here it was outstanding. We dined outside, which was a plus with beautiful weather. Definitely a good experience
An amazing experience. Excellent food, terrific service, a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Just a great place to go for a special occasion. I really love this place.. and look forward to going back again in the future..
Joann our server was knowledgeable and attentive. Wine pairing suggestions spot on and the kitchen always shines!
The ambiance in the garden was quiet and beautiful. We requested outside just the day of the reservation and they accommodated us. The food was beyond delicious! Our fave in Charleston now.
We booked this restaurant for a special occasion after reading reviews. We were seated on the patio and the ambience couldn’t have been better.
What we learned after an hour and a half after 2 drinks and 2 appetizers was that the server essentially disappeared. Maybe our expectations were too high. We ended up leaving after the server returned. After spending $70 we were informed by Open Table that the meal did not qualify for points , which validates our early departure from a rather unpleasant night.
Wonderful ambiance, service and meal. The duck entree was cooked to perfection. We even saved room for their world famous coconut cake!!! Can’t wait to go back the next time we are in town
The food was tasty, the service good. Was a bit noisy and hard to converse
Excellent food and service. Outdoor setting, under cover, was very good
I’d like to give PG five stars for the Coconut Cake alone but we ordered the scallops and they really had no taste so that was disappointing since they were $42 for four rubbery scallops. But I would definitely come back for the dessert and excellent tasting coffee! Our server also was great!
