The food and service was amazing along with that carrot cake to end the night.
Simply the best!
Our favorite white table dining location is no longer what we had come to enjoy. Food was marginal, cooked incorrectly, the sauces didn't even taste correct and it seems any sense of value was seemingly gone with price increases beyond reasonablty. The staff was all new with no sign of the former friendly service-conscious servers that once roamed the room. All in all, I'm afraid the pandemic has damaged one of the finest restaurants in Charleston.
Everything was great food recommend ations wine suggestions waiter owner was better than Halls
Excellent food and service as always
From start to finish it was an outstanding dinner. Four of us with different dining and food experience could not have been more pleased with the food. And the service was impeccable. If you find yourself in Charleston, this is a restaurant not to be missed. Try to sit in their Courtyard. It was enchanting.
Food is delicious abd service is excellent! Beautiful restaurant with terrific ambience
Can’t wait to go back!
Simply amazing! My husband and I were spending our babymoon in Charleston and decided to finish out the trip here. Everything from the ambiance, to the service, and the food was impeccable. Delia was very knowledgeable about the menu and could truly describe each dish so perfectly. The entire staff worked together flawlessly to make sure all your needs were met but in a way you didn't feel smothered. We started our meal each with the wedge salad that was full of flavor, then I had the salmon and my husband the strip...just WOW! The entrees were cooked to perfection and the flavors were incredible, including the goat cheese smashed potatoes...to die for. We finished the perfect meal with their signature coconut cake and it lived up to the hype. My husband said the cocktails were amazing as well. We've eaten at some incredible places and I have to say this tops the list and made the ending of a memorable trip absolute perfection.
Filet was delicious, but it was just slightly over-cooked, & way over-salted, so it reduces the overall score to just “fair” (had so much potential). Disappointed with the steak, but service was impeccable (Eddie) and ambiance was delightful (jacket required for gentlemen).
Service was horrible! Very rushed and could have cared less we were there. We have dined her numerous time but not for a couple of years. I will never go back!
We love Peninsula and it’s our go-to when friends and family visit from out of town. The service is ALWAYS outstanding and the food NEVER disappoints. Soft shells were in season and were prepared and presented beautifully. From our drinks to our entrees - the Peninsula is a wonderful experience.
Great food, but dinner took about 2 hours for 3 courses. Would highly recommend if not pressed for time.
The food and service is not as good as it used to be
Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and delicious meal.
Good, but not the exceptional service I’ve been used to over the years. The food took quite a long time to arrive, with no explanation. Water went empty several times. No apologies offered for several minor issues, from the maître d’ to the waiter. We had hoped to sit outside, but the policy on outside reservations has changed; this is completely understandable, but there could have been more empathy around our disappointment. This needs to be more clearly identified on the website and listed as a clear option when making the online reservation. Both were the maître d’ and waiter were pleasant and kind, but there’s a definite reduction in classy service over the past year. Great food and wonderful wine, but overall a disappointment compared to the standard level of service. We’ll certainly return, but it won’t be at the top of the list, as it has been for many years. A fine restaurant, just not the one we remembered.
Magnificent restaurant!! Great food, atmosphere and serve.
Our 50th wedding anniversary dinner. We were treated to VIP status. Everyone was wonderful and the food was amazing!!
The food was great. The restaurant is elegant
Favorite restaurant. Come back every year. Love it.
60th birthday celebration
Our server was great
😘👌🏼
Highly recommend
Great menu with a wide variety of options! Our meal was delicious and beautifully plated. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the preparation of items on the menu and made very good recommendations. The wine list was extensive!
We love This restaurant! We only had one glitch this time. We had our reservation made a few months in advance of our trip to Charleston. I had requested an outdoor table but was told you couldn’t reserve them so I made one for a regular table. When we got there we asked if there were any outdoor tables and were told they were all reserved. Ok, so we said an indoor table would be fine. Now the restaurant is not very busy at this time and there were plenty of nice tables. We were shown to the worst table in the place by the entrance. I then asked if we could please have one of the nice tables against the wall. We waited while he went back to his reservation book and a few minutes later begrudgingly we were given a nice table. We felt very slighted. Our Dinner was wonderful and our waiter did a fantastic job.
It was a good experience, just wish the restaurants in Charleston weren't all so $$$.
Excellent food and service. We were celebrating my daughter’s 21st birthday. Numerous people stopped by the table to say happy birthday and they made a special dessert for her.
Busy place all evening. The food was amazing and great service! My friend turned 50 and our waiter brought her a cute plate celebrating her "Happy 29th" in chocolate writing! She loved this!!
Thank you!
This is one of the most expensive restaurants in Charleston, and you know going in that "value" is relative. What you are paying for is the experience.
Absolutely the best meal I had in Charleston!!! The scallops and coconut cake for dessert were incredible!!
The food and service were both outstanding. Highly recommend
Everything was simply fabulous as it always is at The Peninsula Grill. Highly recommend the scallops and of course, the coconut cake.
It was a great way to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Dining outside was terrific and added to the ambiance.
We've been to Peninsula Grill 3-4 times and this was the first time we were disappointed. To be completely fair we didn't say anything to the server but we should have. Everyone was masked and tables seemed to be distanced. It was very busy and very loud, far louder then it has been in the past. We were seated on time and our server came right over. He asked all the right questions and was kind and attentive but for some reason we all felt he wasn't very experienced, he did nothing particularly wrong it just felt a bit off. There were six of us. Four had the Lobster 3 ways appetizer. It looked beautiful but was not a tasty as in the past and the fried piece was a bit greasy. My husband also felt it was not as tasty as in the past. I ordered the snapper special, my friend loved it but, my piece was a bit fishy tasting or possible it was the crab on top, it was plated beautifully. My husband had a steak and found it to be gristly and not flavorful. I told him he should have told the server right away but he didn't so I can't fault them for something they weren't given a chance to correct. My daughter also got an expensive steak and said it was not up to par either for cost or quality of the restaurant. Our meal came to $1,000.00 for 6 people. Additionally my daughter sent the first bottle of wine back saying it was "corked", they tasted it and replaced it but it was another minor issue at a place where I expect no issues. I want to be clear that I didn't bring any of this up to the staff as I discovered afterwards that everyone felt the same, everyone had dined with them previously. Since it was a special event I was a bit sad. They did bring a birthday creme brulee which was creamy and flavorful.
Everything was excellent except the entrees which were all underdone. Very rare and they were ordered medium rare and medium. The ribeye was incredibly fatty!
Waiter was very informative and knowledgeable with the menu. Food was excellent! Can’t wait to return.
It’s definitely not what it used to be. The food was on par with what you might expect from Texas roadhouse or Olive Garden. The service was good, but still not equal to what it used to be. The little things like everyone receiving their plate placed on the table at the same time, placing your napkin across the legs when being seated, and other formalities that come with a 5-star experience (and price) were all missing. Instead of it being worth a 2 hour drive, and the extra cost, it was just equal to a nice experience at a well decorated restaurant. Maybe it’s the pandemic...? I hope they get their groove back
Good afternoon Mr. Bryant. I appreciate your taking the time to review your experience at Peninsula Grill. There have been a number of points of service that, due to the corona virus, we had to amend. Food being served at the same time was not among those items and I am very concerned to read this. I would be interested in speaking with you further so that I can take measures to ensure that this does not continue. Thank you again. Erich Rauber (843)723-0700
Piece of fish could have been a little thicker. Seemed a little dry buy still good. Menu could be more extensive.
This is a must visit if you're in Charleston. Excellent!!!
We went to dinner for my 60th birthday and sat outside in the terrace. We had oysters, she-crab soup for appetizers and the sea scallop entree which was delish and a slice of coconut cake to end the night. The service and ambience were top notch. I can’t wait to come back for a return visit!
Excellent service by waiter and sommelier. Food taste and presentation as advertised. Coconut cake delightful. Mid price range wine selection a little thin. As had some Paso Robles wine selections, consider Denner Ditch Digger and Dirt Worshipper as excellent value for money. Denner’s head winemaker, Anthony Yount, also makes wonderful whites both at Denner and with several of his private labels.
Birthday cake was present for desert
