As Marriott Ambassadors and owners of a luxury travel agency, Pura Vida Global Travel, we have dined at restaurants all over the world, including Michelin Star restaurants and family owned restaurants that have been in business for decades. We looked forward to experiencing Pelican Grill as a ‘special’ dining experience on the final evening of our stay at The Pelican Hill Resort & Spa, who recently became a Marriott Bonvoy St. Regis property. This was our first visit to The Pelican Hill Resort & Spa, and we have clients who would visit on our recommendation. Our experience at Pelican Grill was one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had in our luxury travels. We were dining on a lighter fare, ordering a simple tuna appetizer (my husband’s dish) and a wedge salad with chicken (my dish), which should not have made any difference in the level of service we received. Our server (whose name I will omit from this review) came across as extremely impatient when we had questions about dishes on the menu and then would disappear for long periods of time. My husband’s tuna dish was edible and he finished most of it, however my simple wedge salad with chicken (added) was one of the worst dishes I have eaten in a very long time. The chicken breast was extremely dry and served barely lukewarm - certainly had been sitting in the kitchen for quite some time. Our server had disappeared again (he wasn’t the one who brought the dishes to the table), so I flagged down two other servers from different seating sections to ask my dish to be prepared correctly. Our server finally appeared again after a long wait, and took my plate off the table. When the ‘new’ plate appeared, it was the exact same chicken breast that had most likely been reheated by some method and served to me even drier than before and completely inedible. I had enough at that point and ate part of a terrible wedge salad with a couple of bites of the chicken. Our water was never filled - much more to say!

My cousin and I were there for the Mother’s Day Brunch 11-7 pm !! We had the 3 pm reservation.. First of all. We were expecting a sit down Brunch and not a walk through brunch. None where on their OpenTable me it did it say buffet style. None of the entrees were labeled ! So you really did not know what you were eating!! We asked what the sauce was and no one knew so they took it away. So disorganized. The food was cold when it should of been hot.; And vice versa.. It probably had been sitting out for hours ! Bland and I spit out most of it in my plate. I barely ate . They did not have chafing dishes to keep food warm. Caviar was just terrible. I am not sure where it came from. The Wagyu listed was no where to be seen. The champagne was good and the Desserts were spectacular including the Gelato. Hats off to the pastry chef! The service from our waiter was fabulous and staff as well. We spoke to the manager and he informed us that the Buffet style was last minute and all the customers were called and informed. We did not receive a call. He apologized and gave us 50% off and removed the gratuity. We gave our waiter a cash tip. And still the food was not worth it with the discount. It literally ruined my Mother’s Day / bday celebration with my cousin. We left very disappointed! This is a high end restaurant that decided to take short cuts to make money at the expensive of it’s customers by sneakily serving Buffet Style to save on the cost of a hiring a descent chef and less staff, which resulted in extremely poor quality food . This is unacceptable! We will never recommend or return to this restaurant again.

Fantastic brunch experience at Pelican Grill. The buffet had a great variety, and everything was fresh and flavorful. Beautiful setting and friendly staff made it even better. Can’t wait to come back!

We have had lunch here at least seven times over the past three years. Our overall experience was excellent, from the valet service to the warm front desk reception, service by Stefan, and fine linen on the table setting. Well done, TIC/PHR!! There were several disappointing aspects that I hope will be reconsidered: (1) Considering the setting, pricing, etc., we recommend that Pelican Grill terminate the bland doughy buns and return to the artisan bread selection. Even if you can't afford to provide it gratis, could you give us the chance to purchase the artisan bread basket? (2) The Jidori Chicken is a lifeless, boneless breast of Chicken without personality or appeal. It is also a tiny (inexpensive) portion considering the price. Could you consider bringing back the 1/2 baby chicken with the red pepper spices? (3) Pork Chop. Consider adding another protein to the menu and bringing back the pork chop (upon request). TIC, Pelican Grill is a signature property and restaurant venue. You do an excellent job recruiting, menu planning, and execution, and we appreciate you. Keep up the hard work and excellent standards that made this establishment outstanding.

Overall, it was OK. The ambiance was beautiful, but I think you're mostly paying for that. I had the Chilean Sea Bass ($58), which was great—crispy and tender. My husband had the Prime Ribeye ($81), but it had a lot of gristle, which isn’t acceptable at that price. The mashed potatoes ($18) were really good, and the pizza ($25) was great thin and crispy. We also had drinks at $25 each. For the cost, I was hoping for a bit more.
