Had a table outside
Shellfish allergy/and low salt diet
Food came quickly
Hot and cooked to perfection
I had salmon
My husband had filet mignon
Worth a visit
Service was slow,
View was great as we sat on patio as sun set.
Menu is a bit limited but food was good.
Bit expensive for what you get but ambience and view makes up for it.
Came here for my bday brunch & the food was delicious! Made reservations & requested to be seated outside the patio which overlooks the ocean which was beautiful! Would recommend for any occasion. Service was great & I got a free slice of chocolate raspberry at the end of my meal!
You know "I love you Pelican Grill". Been coming for years with great service and receptive attitudes from all who work here including the very welcoming Hostesses. When you make good food, serve it with a smile and a caring attitude, add a beautiful ambiance and an incredible view = a wonderful evening. Thank you again Pelican...
I’ve been here many times. Excellent service; lovely views and great place to have lunch or dinner!
My friends and I go here during our yearly vacation to Newport. We have never had a bad meal and have always enjoyed our experience.
Having had very nice meals at the PG in the past, we returned for dinner with a guest this past week. Our experience was not good! Although the restaurant was pretty empty, our service was dreadful and some of the food was not hot, and other dishes were very poor. The PG is fine for drinks in the bar with a burger or pizza, but cannot be recommended for a full dinner.
Rating would have been five stars except we had to wait over 40 minutes for a patio table with a view, even with a reservation. Also, hostess didn't tell us early on that the patio tables on the bar side are first come, first serve. We finally got an assistant manager to help us and everything was fine after that.
Restaurant would be more flexible for customer who arrived and had reservation to take proper arrangement for seating if others party are not show up on time.
This restaurant was a really nice place to celebrate my daughter's birthday.
Great view/ambience, great service and the food was good!
My other daughter is a vegetarian and was able to enjoy a meal here, too.
Beautiful scenery, very pleasant and attentive attendant; like the simplistic approach of the menu. LOVE the short ribs!!!!!
We truly enjoyed the whole experience, food, service and ambiance were all outstanding. Early dining on the patio is highly recommended!
Wonderful menu and excellent service. Th view is spectacular! It was a lovely evening!
Anthony our server was outstanding and a job well done
Food a was pricy. Dinner menu doesnt come with vegetables.its ala carte. For the price you pay it should come with vegetable or something. i.e. mashed potato, rice pilaf etxccx. Not solo beef. Wine for 20oz size i think is pricy. Beer also pricy, appetizers hmmm small plate but pricy . The place is great. Nice and comfy. Friendlyness i guess fair .waiters just standing in the corners not checking customers on table lols. Will i come back. No ....i think i rather go to other fine dining in newport beach or different city
I loved Pelican Grill a couple of months ago and returned for lunch. I think they may have changed cooks because they did not seem to know how to fry foods or serve them promptly. The fish and chips were soggy and soaked in oil. The bread on the club sandwich was overly toasted and cold. On the bright side, the Cobb Salad, Ahi Tuna Tartare, and Creme Brulee cheesecake were prepared properly and good. But for the prices charged, I expected better than hit or miss and mediocre food.
Went for a celebration of Mother and Daughter Day. Had a delicious meal. Loved the Crab cakes!!!!
The wine was great and so was the ambiance. Everyone was so professional. Waiter was great s well! Definitely recommend this place to all my friends. I know where to go for my next birthday now!
Delicious food and great service. The lamb was excellent and drinks were really good.
Made reservation for 8:15pm on Saturday, specified “paleo seating.” Got there at 8:00pm, and was told the paleo table is not available, and it would be around 10 minuets. Checked back with them again at 8:15pm, and was told the paleo table is still not available, it would take 20-30 minuets.
In the end, I have to just take inside seating.
WONDERFUL!... service, food, setting... all top notch...and especially loved the wait staff ‘s attention....,
great location, great restaurant, food okay, basically you are just paying for experience and location. 10 people we pay $650 for dinner. if you can afford this okay and if you are staying in hotel okay, otherwise there is more restaurants in Newport.
Amazing! Best Sea Bass ever!
Nice casual place for lunch. We met there after church but there were a number of people who had just enjoyed a round of golf. The crab cakes were good.
Amazing experience!!! Very romantic. Service was beyond excellent along with the food.
Ivan our server did an outstanding job. Thanks Richard
We have been to Pelican Grill many times. Except for our last visit the food and service have been outstanding. I hope our more recent experience was just an off day. Service was lacking and we were not seated on the balcony as requested. It was for a 90th birthday lunch, which is significant. Two people in our party waited for sometime for a requested item and in the end we asked a busboy for help. Also, one of the requested items never arrived. We gave up on that one.
I k now it was out of your control but we sat outside and there was a jack hammer going for most of the lunch that we were there. The only downside to the day
Was a pristine day and was a lovely day
Lovely and friendly restaurant. We ordered the house special cocktails from the menu, salads and entrees. The short rib entree was delicious, very rich and nicely plated. Two guests dined on Sea Bass with rice and a coconut milk sauce - another hit. All food items were perfect.
We wished the Grill offered more appetizer and dessert items, the cheesecake was just average.
It was very difficult to hear our guests and our waiter. As the evening got later the room became crowded, quite warm and very noisy. I have eaten in that dining room many times and have not noticed an elevated noise level. Hopefully it was just one crowded evening.
Expensive excellent food with good variety.
We celebrated an Anniversary dinner at the Grill. As a special request, I mentioned we were having a special celebration when I made our reservation. When we were seated at our table I was initially disappointed at the location. Even though there were three other tables identical in size, we were seated at the least desirable table. I decided I wouldn’t make a fuss and try and make the best of it. As dinner progressed, the loud music from the bar was so distracting none of my family could hear our attempts at conversation! The worst part is that the table with the lovey ocean view sat empty the entire time we were eating. I don’t mind paying a price for fine dining but this was the biggest waste of time and money, not to mention our spoiled celebratory dinner. Did anyone bother to read my special request?
Excellent evening, with fabulous service and food to die for....crab-stuffed Dover sole was exquisite.
We return to Pelican Grill whenever we are in Newport Beach CA, as the quality of food and service is truly exceptional!
We love this restaurant. We even booked it again for our next get together!
Outstanding creative dishes, spectacular views, attentive servers and a most elegant Al Fresco dining... Always, and never fails . Definitely a favorite! Thank you all who made it happen!
Excellent atmosphere and perfect cuisine. Newport's Finest!
We ate lunch overlooking the Pacific. Patio is shaded and protected. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and worth the price. Waiter suggested that we add pepperoni and mushrooms to the Margherita pizza. Although the pizza is no longer a Margherita pizza these additions were very tasty. My Chilean Sea Bass special was sublime - a sharp contrast to the Sea Bass I'd had at Olea just a few days before.
