Birthday dinner was great
Its completely overrated WHY over priced FOR WHAT YOU GET…servers raffling food when it comes to delivering it to the table for two people ….no mention of specials only interested in jacking up the ticket price…No wine by the glass list (watch out for that one) water being poured charged for every bottle …skip it it is not worth it ..those days are over.

Excellent food with interesting preparations and artistic presentation; extensive wine list; very attentive, knowledgeable service in a inviting environment, sublime decor... recommend for a special occasion date or high profile business dinner. Also offering nice outdoor seating.
Food was very good, although a bit pricey. Had a miscommunication with waiter which really ruined the experience. We told him we were looking to split one main course and two appetizers. We chose a shrimp main course, and he looked at us and asked if we wanted one shrimp...or 2. We both assumed that he was suggesting there was only a single shrimp tail in main course so we said 2. Ended up bringing 2 huge plates of the shrimp special. I brought up the miscommunication, and there was no apology...just a rude "its too late to change now"....with a clear suggestion that it was our fault. We ate one dish and asked them to wrap the other. We waited 15 minutes and they never brought it out so we left...having paid for a $60 main course that we never intended to order, and were never delivered.
The food was great, the drinks are strong, the patio is wonderful, but it is a bit pricey.

Had to continually summon our waiter for service. I’ve been here several times before and service was great. This was not how I wanted to spend my birthday, continually trying to get the waiters attention.
Chef Mauro runs one of the best Italian cuisine restaurants in the world, and it is right here in Chicago! Take advantage of the outdoor patio while the weather is nice and don't miss the smoked tuna appetizer, it's big enough to split. Followed by a pasta sample (4 types on 1 platter) and split a branzino. With cocktails and a glass of wine about $200 total plus tip, not inexpensive, but well and truly worth it.

If you like your pasta homemade, your appetizers and salads exquisitely composed, your fish and meats adorned with interesting and creative preparations, and your desserts complex and delicious, this is your place. The prices are fairly high, with salads and appetizers in the $20s, pastas in the mid-$20s, and meats in the $45 range (or a little more), but the quality of the food is a genuine treat. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with fresh flower arrangements to compliment the all-white walls and peaceful decor. A tip: the restaurant has a very small lower area (maybe 3-4 tables?) by the bar and then an upper level a few steps higher. We like the upper level better, as it is a little quieter with a little less “traffic” of people walking to and fro. Don’t be put off by the restaurants location off the lobby of the Raffael hotel — it is an urban oasis, with excellent service as well. Enjoy!

We have been to Italy 10-15 times. This is the best and most authentic Italian restaurant outside of our favorites in Italy.
Pelago was a disappointment. The. Pasta menu is interesting and unusual but the second course menu is limited. Everything is expensive. The night special appetizer, melon with prosciutto was $36. It’s hard to find wine under $60/bottle and most are more than $100. I asked for the wine by the glass menu and was told there was none. The waiter told us the wine available and I was shocked to find out when the bill came that my glass of wine was $30! Never again.

True authentic Italian
We were there for our engagement celebration. It was a spectacular meal.
We dine at Pelago often, nice to see new things and specials. The smoked tuna appetizer is new and outstanding, so is the grilled mozzarella and eggplant. Fish excellent, had the special, some kind of new fish in tomato broth, and even though it comes with whipped potatoes and spinach, got some potatoes au gratin. Lamb rack for 2 is $95. Plan to spend $120 a person at Pelago and it is really worth it, best service and ambience and Chef Mauro cooks up a storm!
Delightful place with great food and attentive, friendly service.
The menu was a bit odd for an Italian restaurant but we were still excited to order. The truffle salad was actually awful but the spaghetti was a little better. Everything was kind of bland. The pistachio gelato tasted like the kind you might get at the mall. Such delicious food in this city, I would suggest skipping Pelago.

A very nice quiet fine dining restaurant. Very good service, amazing staff. I would love to give it 5 stars however some of the sides were under seasoned and had no taste, good wine selection. Would definitely come here again.

A high end Northern Italian restaurant for special occasions. Food quality and service are first class. The best restaurant in our neighborhood (Streeterville) for food quality. Up to the standard of top restaurants in Northern Italy. Prices reflect the fact that food and service are exceptional. It is pricey which is why we will save it for special occasions.
Pelago is an expensive/upmarket very old-fashioned Italian restaurant in downtown Chicago. The food is fine, but not exceptional, and expensive for what it is. Primi Piatti (ie pasta) is all around the $25 mark; 'secondi' (ie main courses) considerably more - both bass and bream are around $65. What stops this place being more than 'fair', in my mind, is the service, which is slow and (at this price level) poor. Waiters could constantly reach across me to pour water, etc, and were rather inattentive. All in all, things felt complacent, and all for food that was perfectly OK, but not remarkable at this sort of level.
As always a lovely evening on the terrace at Pelago. It's truly a gem of Chicago!

We had a lovely time at Pelago! The service was wonderful and everyone enjoyed the food.
We were promptly seated inside and noted their were very few patrons inside restaurant. shortly after ordering we noted it was very hot inside and almost all patrons were seated outside-which was full. We were unable to finish our meal as it was to hot and very uncomfortable—so we took our entrees to go. The wait staff must have been miserable as they were all dressed in black suits.
The food was certainly yummy and flavorful—and if the restaurants AC had been working it would have been a enjoyable evening. Unfortunately we were not told-when seated- the AC was not working. We would most likely have waited for an outside table, had we known.
The restaurant was well appointed/lovely and comfortable—except for the hot temperatures which made it unpleasant.
The other issue was I thought it was a bit pricey. We had 2 appetizers/salads, 1 fish entree and 1 veggie entree and 1 extra veggie dish with a single glass of wine and our bill was $250...

We sat outside on a very pleasant evening for the first in-person restaurant encounter in over a year. All 4 in our group were fully vaccinated. It was wonderful. The food was very good--creative. Service was good also but at times a little slow.
Best appetizers ever! New on the menu is artichokes with prosciutto, and the roasted burrata salad. Try the Chicago dirty martini From the bar, and also a great wine list. Now you can sit outside on the better weather. Great service very pleasant white tablecloth way to spend dinner time
