Pappas Restaurant - Parkville
We specialize in after-funeral gatherings.
It was hardly our first visit, but we ate here for Restaurant Week. Because of the prix fixe setup, we had a 3 course meal rather than our usual entree with sides, so we spent about 30% more than usual. It was totally worth it. Salad caprese had good local tomatoes, and was not over-dressed. The crab cake was, as always, superb. We had ordered only one side with our entree, and the waitress insisted that we take home two orders of potato salad, to make up for that. Had it the next night at home, and it was delicious.
We'll be there again, I'm sure, for my mom's 96th birthday next month.
Best crab cakes in town. Every time we visit from Texas this is a must do stop. The crab cakes are filled with chunks of crab and very large portion. Disappointed in the stuffed mushroom appetizer - cheesy crab soufflé overwhelming 2 small mushrooms- just not what I was expecting. Complementary cucumber salad always refreshing. Do not visit this restaurant if you are in a time crunch- always busy dining room and takes time to get entrees out to the table.
Our group likes to come here every couple of months. Great service, great food. Haven't been let down yet! The crab cakes are so good, the twice baked potato was delicious. I got the cream of crab soup for the first time, very good. Too stuffed to have dessert but got some rice pudding to go which was also delicious.
Food was excellent. Crab cakes were of the best that I have had. The table that we sat at was very small and it made it difficult to have a quiet conversation because we sat so close to other diners which made it impossible. So intimate conversations are a no. We had to move our table in order for the gentlemen that was seated with his wife next to the wall to leave. So cramped quarters. We had a table for two. A table for 4 seems like a better option.
As always, Pappas was a great place to meet some friends. We all had something different and we all enjoyed our meals. Crabcakes are the best!
Great crab cakes. Pricy due to difficulty getting crab pickers due to implementation of temporary visa restrictions.
We had 7 people. We were sat at a great table. Service was great. Katherine our waitress was great too. A short red headed hostess was absolutely phenominal! She went out of her way to get us all cream of crab from carryout accross the street. Was very good soup. Food was really great. We all had good things to say. Will go back again.
Dinner was enjoyed by all. Service was attentive and food was excellent.
I had to ask the waitress 4x’s to remove empty plates from our table and we ordered 3 passion fruit mojitos and they were HORRIBLE!
As always, the crab cakes were excellent! And the service was outstanding. We always enjoy our meal at Pappas.
The service was poor, we requested sweet iced tea’s and were given unsweetened ice tea’s, we had to another person in the area to fill our orders, the person that had initially waited on us was no where to be found
Took relatives who wanted to try a good crab cake. They weren't disappointed. crab cake was excellent and other seafood (scallops, halibut, rockfish) were all well prepared
Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was outstanding. For the first time ever I accidentally forgot to take my credit card after the meal and it took me a couple of days to backtrack my steps. I called Pappas and asked if they had it, the friendly lady with whom I spoke checked and found it, and informed me they'd hold it at the lounge for me. When I went to retrieve it, I went to the bar, not knowing that the lounge was in a separate room. The bartender escorted me into the lounge area and was extremely helpful in helping me to retrieve my card.
This speaks volumes for this restaurant. They serve crab cakes that are second to none, and for my meal I also got a filet mignon that was absolutely perfect. But they are also very friendly and extremely accommodating for their customers. The wait staff doesn't hover over you, but seems to know exactly when to appear. Gourmet level food, with a friendly small-town atmosphere.
A thoroughly outstanding experience, heartily recommended.
Everything was great! The special appetizer of the day, mussels, was delicious. The crab cakes, as always, were big and delicious. I was very hungry, so I ordered two. Believe me, one would have been enough, but they were so good, I finished them and was uncomfortably full! My husband was wiser and took his second one home. It was just as delicious the next day, warmed up in the microwave. No one had room for dessert. When we came in, we were greeted with warmth, and then sent off with warmth. A Baltimore area gem.
Crab cakes are delicious!!! We always come here when in MD visiting family. Yum!!!!!
The location where seated was dirty and congested. Two of the 4 meals were VERY dry. It was very sad because we enjoyed for the past years the Cockeysville location and wanted to celebrate a friend's birthday.
Renovations should take place. Upon leaving water was dripping from the ceiling right at the entrance.
The crabcakes were good, but nothing spectacular. 1/2 price wine was nice! Yummy food for the kids. Seating was a little crammed and they didn't have our reservation on file for some reason, but they sat us right away.
Overall my experience was pretty average. I had their crab cake which was a bit underwhelming. It was filled with crab meat which was a plus but the crab cake was quite bland and lacked flavor.
I'm only in the Baltimore area every few years so I don't get to Pappas nearly as often as I like. The crab cakes are legendary. I'd love to try other things on the menu but these are, by far, the best crab cakes I've ever had. Old school restaurant. Not pretentious in any way. A bit pricey but the quality is obvious and it's totally worth it.
Finally got a chance to try Pappas in our quest for Baltimore's best crab cakes. They claim the world's best. They may be right. The crab cakes are about as good as any. Everything else was excellent, too. If you want great crab cakes, they must be on your list.
The service and food was excellent my all in all experience was great. I would recommend Pappas to friends and family for any occasion.
The crab cakes and the rock fish were superb.
Sides were disappointing and that was not our prior experience.
Overall good but not great.
I checked the menu online before going because i wanted to make sure i would like something . The were 5 dishes for me to choose from. But when I got there they had a special Fathers Day Menu. None of the dishes I wanted were listed. It was mostly seafood I do not eat seafood I know they are known for crabcakes So I took my Husband there after making sure they would have something i could eat. They did not. I got Chicken Chesapeake It was very dry after I took off the crabcake. Also I asked for a hurricane to drink Instead of saying he did not know how to make it he brought me a glass of brown liquid that tasted awful. I would not go there again or tell anyone else to. Plenty of places have crabcakes
My husband received a gift certif as part of an award from work! First time here and it was amazing !! Good food , great wine and excellent service !!! we will be back !!!
The crab cakes were wonderful as usual. My only complaint is that they could have some more interesting and different side dishes.
My wife and I went to Pappas to celebrate our 51st anniversary. We did have a nice evening.
We arrived a few minutes early and were seated immediately. Our server was very attentive.
There is a good reason for Pappas being known for their crab cakes. Mine was delicious. My wife liked her stuffed shrimp. The price was fair for a very good meal.
We plan to return. I will order the crab cake again.
Wife and I both got the crab cakes. Have to say these are probably the best in Baltimore. Highly recommend.
i have been going to Pappas for years......this time was the worst.....The wedge salad was bad, there was no dressing, so i asked for so extra....after pouring it on and tasting, i realized it was tartar sauce. The knife i had could neither cut the lettuce nor the green beans. A second drink was ordered but came terribly late. I then ordered more tartar sauce for my crabcake (delicious as always) and the waitress came after the meal looked and apologized for not bringing it. We had asked for bread when offered, it never came. All in all a disaster of a meal.
The crab cake was nasty. I had high speciations and was truly displeased. No flavor in the crab cake, string beans or mashed potatoes.
We had a great time, we arrived a little early for our reservation but were seated anyway. One in our party needed to use the elevator and was helped by the wait staff. The food was great, everyone was pleased with their entree. At no time did we feel rushed, nothing was too much trouble for our waiter. We will be back in the near future.
Although we had been to Pappa's many times, this was the first time going there on a Saturday night. The place was packed and reservations were essential. The dining room was very noisy so conversation was difficult (we all agreed that it is best to come at a less busy time...). Although we had requested seating in a certain area of the restaurant in order to best accommodate the 97-year-old in our party who needs to use a wheelchair and has very limited mobility, the restaurant seated us in the main dining room so it was not possible to use the wheelchair because there is not quite enough room between the tables (no explanation was offered - we assumed it was simply too busy). Five of us ordered the crabcake dinner - which was excellent (seriously good crab cakes. The cowboy rib-eye steak offered as one of the nightly specials was also very good. I would not recommend the grilled pork chops - they looked good and tasted ok but were very tough. The cream of crab soup was also very tasty. Service was pretty good, although there was quite a long time between soups and entrees, (again, it was a very busy night...) and we all left full and happy.
Excellent crab cake - we were there for a late lunch so restaurant was quiet - usually mobbed at lunch. Great service, great food.
Very good seafood, a good value. Excellent crab cakes, fish, etc.
We took some out-of-town friends here for dinner, since you can't visit Baltimore without sampling some crab. Everyone was very happy with their meals! The crab bisque, crab-stuffed shrimp, and imperial crab were all hits. Too full for dessert.
Crab balls are better than cakes because they are cooked thru. Sometimes the cakes are rushed leaving the middle lukewarm and mush. Mashed potatoes were tasteless and barely warm. If they were hotter I would have added a little butter and pepper. I ate them anyway but in a hurry so they wouldn't get cold.
Out of town guests we took to the best crab cake place in the us
Food was great as usual
Service a little slow but gave us time to talk
We arrived a little early, but were still seated immediately. Our server was attentive and nice. Food is excellent
I never fill out these things but it was great food and the service was the best I’ve ever had!
It was a pleasurable experience. Our reservation was for 8pm and we were seated promptly. Our table wasn't in best location, but we requested another table and there was a smooth transition to the next table. The food was excellent. I ordered a fountain soda (Root Beer) and it was horrible. Our waitress promptly replaced it with another choice. I will continue to dine there, especially with out-of-town friends.
We had a family gathering for a special occasion and were delighted with the menu. There was something for everyone. The food was outstanding, especially items featuring crabmeat! And the service was great. Highly recommend this restaurant.
