Paloma Blanca Mexican Cuisine

I was looking forward to dining at Paloma Blanca and having some really good Tex Mex. First the good. The ambiance and decor is attractive and upscale. The restaurant was busy for a Monday night, increasing my anticipation. People were definitely enjoying themselves, another good sign. Service was attentive and good. The disappointments: the food was mediocre. We started with the house margarita - very good. Then the guacamole made tableside, I would say that the preparer was indifferent at best and the results reflected that. It was definitely under-seasoned, it was almost like eating unseasoned avocado. Then we moved to the standby for any Tex Mex restaurant, the frajitas. As soon as we saw the dish, we knew it would not meet our expectations. It had the look of being on the grill too long. It was obviously prepared in bulk and left on the grill. When it came out, it look dry and almost gray. The taste reflected this. We come from Houston and "know" what good Tex Mex is and what good frajitas should taste like. Maybe the other menu items are good but unfortunately I will not be finding out.
It was good
But not the most
Fabulous, Luke we had been told. Maybe we ordered the wrong items!
Friendly and excellent service
Our server was so wonderful and the food was fantastic.
The gluten free menu is excellent!
Real Tex mex. great enchilada mole and tableside guacamole.
Wonderful evening with friends. The food was excellent and waiter so very understanding and attentive! It was a very special birthday celebration!
Only drawback was the noise level - which is much less when the restaurant isn't totally full.
The food and service were great! Love the live music and ambiance also...
Fantastic food and service. Thank you for the wonderful service for my and I.
Good food, great ambience.
Had a fabulous time with friends!!! Thanks PB!!!!
Second time I went there. First time food was great. This time, my food was terrible. My guest liked their food. Disappointing experience.
My group of friends and I had a delicious meal and a lovely time at Paloma Blanca. I am "the sauce queen", and not only was the chicken with half-and-half chipotle cream/cilantro cream beautifully presented, flavorful, and moist, but our server gladly brought me a side of their poblano cream sauce to try as well. The salad that accompanied my entree was crisp and bright tasting--a lovely counterpoint to the chicken with sauce. The only disappointment was the rice which looked good with the bits of corn and chile, but was very mild in flavor (sauces to the rescue!). The mole sauce on the chicken enchiladas ordered by one of our party looked amazing, and everyone cleaned their plates. I would gladly return and would have a difficult time deciding whether to order the same dish, or to try one of the others.
Great food, as always. My disappointment this time is that Open Table gave me the choice of indoor or outdoor seating when reserving, and I chose outdoor. When we arrived, we were seated inside. When I questioned this, I was told that the restaurant doesn’t take reservations for outdoor seating. The restaurant is very loud indoors, and I chose outside seating in order to have a quieter atmosphere for conversation with the out of town guests we were hosting. Seated inside as we were, it was difficult to converse, and that was disappointing. I am saddened and surprised that the restaurant did not honor the choice offered on Open Table, and was not apologetic at all regarding the confusion. Their customer service is usually top notch. It’s still one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio; I’m just disappointed in this event.
Brought out of town family for dinner before flying back to east coast. I wanted them to have authentic Mexican food, not just TexMex.
I had a reservation but they sat us in the back room close to the family restroom. The only other people in there was a large Mardi Gras party of 16.
We felt discarded. It was a very weird atmosphere- I’ve never been seated back there - like an overflow room, not part of the beautiful restaurant.
Our server was ok. She was a newer hire and not the usual, wonderful, Latino waiters we love. I felt like we were in a chain restaurant.
Our glasses (water and margarita glasses) all had big chunks broken off. When I asked for a new one, she said “well, they are all broken”. I said it was very sharp and unsafe and she just shrugged. Again, I was embarrassed in front of my guests. Overall, i was so disappointed in the overall experience I may not be making Paloma Blanca my restaurant of choice for out of town guests, 😕☹️☹️☹️☹️
Great environment! Wonderful food!
Great cocktails, good guacamole, very mediocre food.
If weather permits, sit outside on the porch. The ambiance is worth it.
Lovely decor, good service, quiet small seating area next to bar. Some construction noise on exterior.
Food very good, large menu.
Always a pleasure! Made my birthday a little extra special celebrating at Paloma Blanca!
Delicious food and great service!! We had the enchiladas and the steak. Everything was cooked to perfection and flavors were spot on! Tres leches cake was so yummy! (Had roasted pecans in it!)
I eat at several different Mexican restaurants (including Paloma Blanca), each with a different type of food and atmosphere. Paloma Blanca is a favorite with out of town family, so we always come here when they're in town. The food selection is varied and pleases everyone and the margaritas, oh my. They are always consistently excellent. I don't care for the red sauce on the cheese enchiladas too much, but other food choices are quite pleasing! We enjoy eating here as a group, but I enjoy coming solo for a peaceful meal, too. Very nice - but parking is congested so plan ahead.
We arrived at the time of our reservation and we’re seated immediately although ther was a significant number of people in the waiting area. Thank you open table. The table was good and drink and food orders were taken quickly. Unfortunately, my order was misplaced and the rest of the table was served their meals in a timely fashion. After several inquiries as to the status of my meal, it was ready just as everyone else was finishing. The restaurant comped my meal and I took it as a to go. Not a good experience.
The food is always good here, and the atmosphere is nice.
Excellent and tasty food, and beautiful restaurant.
Our reservation was perfect. Or seating was perfect. Our waitress, Carina was perfect. She was attentive and helped in selecting a drink for me.
Always love Paloma, will go again! Always love Paloma, will go again!
Your service staff handled 12 people very professionally. Thank you so much!
Cannot speak enough good things about our server, Carena. Not only did she remember me, but she remembered our drink order! Attentive, flexible and made the special evening that much more enjoyable.
Excellent option for paleo and gluten free gourmet food!! Was so lovely! Get the guac that they make at the table and est it with plantain chips mmmmmm!
Food great and service outstanding. Will recommend and visit again.
Our server Luis was very attentive and great to us. We went to try all the soups! They were delicious and perfect for a cold day. Then we had some queso...delicious too! We enjoyed our lunch!
We had a special event here for my friend who is gluten free. They have special gluten free chips and a gluten free menu. I brought her a gluten free cake too, and the restaurant was very nice and kept it in the back and brought it out after the meal.
Always great food. Our favorite go- to Mexican restaurant.
This restaurant has a great selection of menu choices.
Paloma Blanca is a forever favorite, but with it being packed during the holidays, everything seemed rushed, from the service to the preparation of food. We took our family here and were disappointed by the subpar standard when we dined.
Food-wise: Guacamole was tasteless, Gluten-Free Fajitas dripping in oil, the usually outstanding margaritas seemed watered down. Service-wise: Waiter seemed he was trying to get the job done and didn't serve food or drinks, but made us pass them. Overall just disappointed this time.
Food was good but service was very slow. The restaurant reported us to Open Table as a No Show even though we were there and reported in to the hostess.
We are vegan and they accommodated our special request with vegetarian enchiladas in a tomatillo sauce.
Staff was awesome - not all of our party had arrived but we were seated and menus provided to get started. Nice table - beautiful restaurant - great time!!!
My wife and I have been eating here since it was at its other location. Everything was perfect as always. We came here to celebrate my wife’s birthday along with some family. Our server, Elizabeth was amazing. Despite the restaurant being extremely busy, Elizabeth made sure that we were well taken care of. The 09 Margarita is possibly the best in town.
