Delicious! Fresh fish, good selection. Portions were smaller than I remembered.
Such a little gem is this neighborhood! Both quality of food and service is great!! We had udon, chicken Karaage, few Otoro nigiris, lollipop roll, unagi and spider rolls, tempura and onkimo. The Otoro nigiri and seared salmon Otoro nigiris were really fresh, they melt in your mouth. The tempura batter was light and hot. It didn’t seem weighed down with grease at all. Even the hot sake was good. It is a little pricier than other Japanese places but I think the service makes up for it. We went on a Thursday night and it was full although it probably holds no more than 40 people. Walk-ins sat at the sushi bar. I would definitely come back if I wanted to splurge.
Otoro is excellent for a date night or small group (4-6), especially before a show nearby. We enjoyed all the food we ordered, especially that day's specialty rolls with fresh tuna. Service was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!
Great sushi. Nice experience. A little loud, but a lovely sushi place.
My wife and I dined there prior to going to the theater. We were impressed! The menu was extensive, service attentive, and the quality was impressive. We look forward to our next visit and the chance to explore the menu further.
Very good food but not sure worth the price. And it can be VERY loud when crowded. But the food is really good and the servers and host are very friendly.
Delicious! Be sure to try the specials such as smoked salmon and lollipop rolls!
Great if you are going to the Davies and need a quick bite. 10 minute walks
Waited 20 minutes despite having a reservation but the food was very good.
Great sushi. We has the toro sampler and it was good. Uni was alright but unagi was fantastic. Enjoyed a few rolls that we tasty. Overall great sushi.
We had a hot eggplant appetizer which was very good plus a tuna roll. For dinner I had tempura soba noodle soup. My husband had chicken soba noodle soup. Both were very good and the soup came out nice and hot.
Three out of 4 liked it. It was much too expensive, but the food was good. It was not authentic Japanese, which is why the 4th person didn't like it.
Always creative, always excellent
Very good food and great service. I would go back again.
We let the waitress know that we had opera tickets and needed to leave by 7pm. She never returned once to ask if we needed anything during the meal and forgot about our timeframe, which we reminded her about twice during meal. Disappointing lack of service.
Awesome food! Ridiculously good sushi
Great food! It’s a tiny restaurant and I sat at the sushi bar. I watched the sushi chef prepare the sashimi plates with great care and small dashes of different flavors. I love this place.
The food at Otoro is always delicious. The fish is extremely fresh and the sushi and special rolls are supremely tasty. I highly recommend Otoro Sushi.
It was grate the food was perfect and delicate the flavors were incredible.
Great service and food. Large party next to us made it a little noisy.
We always enjoy going to Otoro Sushi when attending concerts in the Civic Center area of San Francisco.
The food is fresh and nicely presented.
This is our go-to place for dating nights. The food is really good and fairly priced. However the last time we went the service took much longer than usual and I felt sick afterwards. We don't know if we'll be back.
The food was imaginative and delicious. Lots of vegetarian options and interesting uses of eggplant. This was our first time here. The place is quite small and charming. The sushi was so fresh and the tastes of sauces were unique on other items we tried. Will definitely return. Great place to go before going to local venues around the civic center. Highly recommend.
Delicious, fresh sushi and Japanese tapas. The service was excellent, the ambiance is intimate and perfect for enjoying a meal while chatting with friends, easy to hear each other. We will definitely be back again.
Great service and great food
Good quality fresh sashimi artfully presented
Best sushi ever!!! Every time we visit San Francisco this restaurant is at the top of our list to be sure we get there!!!!
Everyone at Otoro is always very nice and the food is excellent! Definitely a spot I always consider for special nights.
Precise execution and preparation of sushi. The sushi sizes borderline on being miniature. But the quality of fish is high. Kids have the tempura udon and that is not good, noodles became sticky, tempura oil doesn't taste good, the shrimp has no taste. Sushi and rolls are recommended. The ambiance is more a local neighborhood restaurant which is lovely, but the price are set like a more elegant restaurant. I would come back for the food anyways.
Great food! Wonderful service! One of my favorite sushi restaurants in San Francisco! Always come back!
Perfect spot for a pre performance dinner.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant. Very good variety of sushi from japan and local, plus inventive tapas. Great host and staff.
Small portions for the price, but it was good. The Otoro roll was delicious. Minimalist decor.
everything is always excellent there! Jimmy is the best host .
Very good food, excellent service, but quite noisy as there is nothing to break the noise
Killer rolls, ambiance and service! Definitely going back..
Great boutique sushi spot, small family environment with big hug from sushi!
Otoro is my favorite SF sushi bar. Their small dishes and rolls are the freshest and most creative in town. The owner is friendly and service efficient. It’s getting so I cone once a week!
Great place before show at SF jazz or Davies, etc. Food was great... Lots of options and service was quick and efficient knowing we had a show to get to. Would go again.
The meal was disappointing and a little strange. We were initially seated at the counter but asked to move to an empty table. The host said we could have the table next to the empty one once the people sitting there left. I’m not sure why we couldn’t just have the empty table, as it was identical. It’s not a huge deal, but it took a while and set a weird tone. We had a reservation, and the people who were eventually seated there didn’t look like they’d requested that particular table.
The chicken karage didn’t come with the usual spicy mayo. The omega spicy roll and Golden State roll were both fine. The glazed cod was tender but the portion was small. The dynamite scallop was awful. It tasted like fishy ketchup. The scallop meat was so tough that it was unidentifiable. One of the worst bites of food I’ve had in recent memory.
“Neighborhood gem” is becoming a red flag for me.
