Otium is a contemporary restaurant that draws from the rich culinary heritage of Timothy Hollingsworth. It is designed to be a social restaurant with a dramatic open kitchen merging indoor and outdoor spaces. The restaurant’s name, Otium, has its roots in Latin. A word that is meant to emphasize a place where time can be spent on leisurely social activities, both eating and drinking; adjacent to one of Los Angeles" most important cultural streets—Grand Avenue—and next to its newest, most vibrant addition, the contemporary art museum, The Broad. The restaurant draws inspiration from the 100-year-old olive trees planted in Broad Plaza by utilizing rustic cooking with live fire and sustainable ingredients grown in the garden of the restaurant’s mezzanine. Otium strips away the rigid formalities of dining while focusing on the quality of food, warm service, and relaxed casual ambience.

Went for small plates after the opera.
Food & service superb. Beyond that, staff was personable, kind, and caring.
They all have that perfect balance between hovering and disappearing. Every want is met, but they don’t breathe down your neck. Just charming.
And the tomato tart was perfect!

Great food, great service. The restaurant was busy when we arrived but the wait staff was very attentive. The Food was delicious but honestly the staff is who made the dining experience a pleasure. Definitely a place to recommend.

We were celebrating our 36 wedding anniversary. We were given the best table right in front of the open kitchen, which is like watching good theater. The GM, Cecil, came to the table and greeted us, so did the manager, Sarah. She remembered us from our first visit, months earlier, just after the lockdown. She suggested the tomato tart as a starter and it was perfection. Our server was incredible. He comped us a couple of glasses of a delicious rosé to toast to our anniversary. EVERYTHING and EVERYONE was perfect. Absolutely perfection through and through. The food, the cocktails, the ambiance, the staff, the music, the energy--it all combined to create the most memorable dining experience we've enjoyed. LOVED IT! We are so hooked and now part of the Otium fanbase.

This was an amazing experience! My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and we were met at the door with an “Happy Anniversary” and also a “Thank you for choosing our restaurant for this occasion”! So that was an excellent start! The food was outstanding, the servers were extremely friendly and arrival of each course as timed perfectly. All in all, a definite 5 star night!
We can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough!! Bravo to everyone involved!

The dessert is amazing.

The whole evening was incredible. Timothy is a genius. Being I may never get to the French laundry, Otium filled that void. He is a genius and now I understand why he won a seat at the final table. Every dish we ordered was perfection and I plan to go back again with my husband. My dream is to meet Timothy and thank him for his beautiful understanding of food. Brilliant! The staff was amazing as well and made us feel important. We never felt lost in the shuffle. The best way to celebrate my birthday!

We had been here once before years ago, I was excited to come back. Food was tasty as I remembered! Service was good. Our main server not as friendly but she was training someone and actually who she was training was great! I liked the ambiance. I faced the open kitchen and I enjoyed it. Portions pretty small so just be aware if you’re really hungry be prepared to order a few dishes. Overall cool spot, tasty food, interesting ambiance!

Wonderful experience, not just for the delicious food, but also Chef Tim Hollingsworth and his staff are amazing, the vibe is fantastic!


All dishes are great, but I recommend the lamb belly en croute!!!

The space is beautifully done. The host were friendly and inviting. The servers were also friendly and very knowledgeable of the food and all its origin. The food was excellent as well. Great presentation and plating. Loved the lamb belly en croute, potato gnocchi, and grilled lobster dishes. Thank you!

Our server was amazing. Really enjoyed the Branzino. Didn’t like having to wait to be seated though, but we did arrive 5 minutes early so they said our table wasn’t ready…we were seated about 10 minutes after our reservation at 9pm. Overall, we had a great date night.

The service is good, the restaurant is so beautiful and the food delicious. The lobster was a little pricey for the small amount. Also, the drinks we ordered took more time than it should have to arrive, including the espresso in the end. But overall it still deserves 5 stars!
