Otium is a contemporary restaurant that draws from the rich culinary heritage of Timothy Hollingsworth. It is designed to be a social restaurant with a dramatic open kitchen merging indoor and outdoor spaces. The restaurant’s name, Otium, has its roots in Latin. A word that is meant to emphasize a place where time can be spent on leisurely social activities, both eating and drinking; adjacent to one of Los Angeles" most important cultural streets—Grand Avenue—and next to its newest, most vibrant addition, the contemporary art museum, The Broad. The restaurant draws inspiration from the 100-year-old olive trees planted in Broad Plaza by utilizing rustic cooking with live fire and sustainable ingredients grown in the garden of the restaurant’s mezzanine. Otium strips away the rigid formalities of dining while focusing on the quality of food, warm service, and relaxed casual ambience.

We had brunch with friends from in and out of town. Was a very pretty location, even in a gray day. Service was attentive. Food was tasty.

The porttion size on their hamachi was microscophic, for a $19 appetizer. The rest of the food was only ok, a bit salty. Not good value for money.

Food was terrific! Sold more as family style (larger portions). We had brunch and highly recommend the chicken and waffles.

What a disappointment !!

As this was my favorite restaurant in the past, I booked both lunch and dinner.
Lunch:
Farro salad with salmon was a bowl full of farro with a few
Hard-to-find greens and cranberries. The salmon was a very small portion.
No creativity, little consideration of texture and balance.

Dinner:
Ordered duck. Was told it would take 30 minutes. Fine.
Instead it came in 1 minute, lukewarm with some unidentifiable cubes.
No decent vegetable or carb.
Sent it back and ordered pork chops.
Again, no green. It did come with spaetzle with horseradish which did not work.
Pork was 25 percent fat.
Naan was tasteless and seemed to have been fried.
Again, no balance or creativity.
Plating was a disaster.

Great food, the waitress knew the menu and could explain it to a "T..." so we were all very impressed, happy and will return, thank you for the great service.

Excellent!
Black Truffle fries were outstanding, pricey at $25 but worth it ... Duck Confit a 10 as well as the Farro salad with salmon... Very cool vibe... would highly recommend it!

Very pleasant. Would’ve liked to have Chardonnay wine offerings for less than $100

Having eaten at Otium a dozen times it amazes me how incredibly rude the front of the house staff is. When you show up for your reservation they ALWAYS say there are a number of parties in front of you waiting to be seated so please have a seat in the bar and order drinks while you wait. This is just a ploy to goose your liquor tab - it’s obnoxious and unnecessary. What is the point of having a reservation if you have to wait 15-20 minutes to actually be seated. Food is very good and at times sublime but also quite uneven. Last night the chicken was incredible and the pork chop dry as shoe leather.

Going to Otium is always treat, especially after the LA Phil. It's upscale & tasty, but not too stiff to bring kids!
