Do you space was absolutely amazing all the winners to care of us as if we were family and I really appreciate everything that they did for us the food was absolutely amazing and also the waitress in the beginning helped us with our bottle of rose the experience was absolutely on touchable to any other Italian restaurant I have been in San Diego if you guys are looking for an amazing experience definitely come down to this restaurant they will treat you as if you are family and there’s nothing else more to say except the food is amazing and the drinks are also amazing and we really appreciate the courtesy of a tiramisu for the desert as a birthday gift to the customer that we were eating with thank you very much and we hope to see you guys again very
The food is excellent-service was just ok. We felt very rushed by our waiter, we had a large group so tip was already added so he did not have to try hard
Very nice, very delicious meal, although my pet peeve is a salad (the La Mista) I have to chop up myself in order to get into my mouth. But I really, it was fantastic experience and we will definitely return!
Great food. Need more waiting staff tho. Had to remind about wine order. There was only one waitress on a Friday night.
Great spot for dinner before a show at San Diego Civic Theater. Just 5 minutes walk, we were able to park once and stretch our legs after dinner. Bucatini Mare e Monti ("sea and mountains" an Italian play on surf and turf) was perfectly cooked, with slightly spicy sausage and shrimp. Gnocchi was also great and the chicken parmigiana was tender, not overcooked, and well seasoned. Good reviews all around for our group!
By far the best Minestrone soup since Italy! The pasta was excellent - cooked al dente.
Awesome food and service!
Service was slow (server told us kitchen was slammed) and rude ( when we mentioned that we had theater tickets we were told “so does everyone else “. Food was fantastic and a great value.
My friend and I went there for dinner before watching a musical at the San Diego Civic Theatre. I had the Vongole while my friend had one of the raviolis. The food itself was good but we both agreed that it was a bit too salty for our taste. The biggest issue we had was the wait time; it took them over an hour for them to get our food ready for us. In addition, the waiters kept bumping into me even though I was just sitting down and left ample amount of space between myself and the other tables and chairs. Overall, it was an okay experience but I wouldn’t go again.
Our waitress was such a sweetie! So nice. We come there often and she remembered us as "regulars."
The menu features classic dishes and the food is well executed. The pasta and mozzarella tasted home made. This was easily the best Italian I’ve had in a very long time. If I lived locally, I’d make this a regular spot.
Love this place. I’ll be back!
They had a fabulous vegan dish that was absolutely delicious! Happy to see a restaurant offer vegan options.
Wonderful food and service will definitely return
Loved it. Will be back again
Great evening - food and service were excellent. Highly recommend!
I just adore this restaurant. Their pastas are so fresh and the sauces are delish! The wine selection is a good one and we enjoyed a wonderful bottle with our meal. We were also treated to a FREE tiramisu when we checked in on Yelp - that was a wonderful surprise! I have come here a couple times before shows at the Balboa Theater and will be back again for sure!
Perfect place to go before attending the theatre. Food is excellent; service was very good. One tiny complaint. We had a reservation for 4 and when we arrived the restaurant was pretty much empty. We were seated right by another party and when we asked to move to a more private table we were told they were all reserved. Didn’t realize you could reserve a specific table??? Anyway still gave this place a 5 because all in all wonderful experience.
The hostess was abrupt when we arrived for our reservation. The service was very poor. Waited a long time to even have someone come to our table and waited much longer than normal to be able to give our order. Everyone around us was served bread and water and we had to ask twice for the same consideration. Pesto pasta was way too oily and unappetizing, run of the mill fare. Very loud and at a table for two could barely hear each other when speaking in normal conversational tones. We will not return.
It was a lovely place to eat, the food and service were great!
We love the food here, and the friendly service, and the atmosphere. It's got a bit of a Manhattan (New York) vibe, right here in San Diego.
The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the restaurant's policies (which have only been communicated verbally) ruined the experience. We were planning to go out to eat for Thanksgiving, so I researched places that were open and found Operacaffe, which was also listed as one of the restaurants accepting the San Diego Gift Card, which we had been given as a gift. I went to the restaurant’s website to view the menu, and after signing up for their email list I received an email coupon for a free dessert. After our meal, we provided our gift card and showed the email coupon. The server responded that they didn't accept gift cards or coupons on holidays and it was “posted on the menu” but would not show us. I suggested politely that they consider including the contingency on the email coupon, because it didn't have any restrictions written. Instead of accepting the suggestion and saying he’d pass it along to a supervisor, he repeated “it’s on the menu,” but would still not show us. After he left the table for a moment so we could get together our payment method, we looked on our phone at the Operacaffe page of the SanDiegoGiftCard website, and the Gift Card website’s Terms I still cannot locate anywhere where these contingencies are noted. I emailed the restaurant to explain the situation and that while we understand following policies of a business, it felt very unfair that these policies weren’t posted anywhere, and seemed to somehow be secret. After sending my email on the evening of November 28th, it is now December 3rd and I have received no response. The food at this restaurant was delicious, but I’m left so disheartened that they didn't seem to really hear our concerns, nor take the time to respond.
I was disappointed that on a Friday night there were no opera singers. This is the reason I wanted to have dinner here. The waitress was okay, friendly but she needs some training. When customers ask for clean utensils the staff should replace them. Food wasn't as good as I remembered. Sorry.
Excellent service and delicious sea bass.
Wonderful Italian Food here! Not the fanciest ambience. But the food quality makes up for it. They did a great job and got us served quickly so that we could make our show at the Civic Theater.
What a great place to go for Italian food and a night at the theatre. I had the special of shrimp, scallops, and gnocchi and it was so good. The tiramisu desert was light and tasty. The service was great and I was late so I called and they held our table. Very happy with the whole experience.
Great food and service!
The food was fantastic! Our server was very nice but forgot the salads for 2 of our guests. He made up for it with a complimentary dessert though. Would be nice to have olive oil & balsamic on the table as we had to flag someone down to get more. It's a bit too noisy inside. Although some people enjoy the energy, we're not fond of needing to raise our voices to have dinner conversation. Might be worthwhile to install some sound baffling. We'll return as the food was excellent.
Very fast service. Hot food. Great taste.
Absolutely live this restaurant! Ate here 3 times in 2 weeks. Pizza is fabulous. Fish dish was wonderful. Tried several salads, all great.
We had a 6pm reservation for dinner since we were attending an event at the Civic Theater at 8pm. Not knowing how traffic would be coming down from Riverside county, we actually got there about 40 minutes early. The hostess said they were tight on time because they were totally booked, but she was still able to seat us early at an indoor table. The service we received from our waitress and server was simply outstanding. I can’t say how many times they checked on our drinks, if we needed more bread (which was delicious by the way, and yes, we did have more) or anything else we needed. The food was good, but I wouldn’t say it was some of the best Italian we’ve had. Our dishes were fettucine alfredo and fettucine al pesto with chicken. The pesto was a little overpowering of the pasta. Good, but not great. However, we would definitely give this restaurant another chance in the future just based on the level of service we received. The restaurant itself was very quaint, and my husband did appreciate the fact that they had the world series game on since we’re from Virginia and are big Nationals fans. Overall, we would recommend Operacaffe.
Our favorite everyday Italian restaurant. Always a good value. Simple, well prepared dishes, and very nice people. Well done.
The hospitality was everything I expected and the food was fantastic!
It was my first time experiencing this restaurant. I made reservations for a girlfriend and I, who was coming down to visit and enjoy a comedy show at Spreckels.
Our table was a small two-top, inconveniently placed dead center of everyone passing by. Additionally, the table next to us was a family of four with two children who were pretty loud. I mean, I have kids, but on this particular night I really didn’t want to deal with children crying and being loud.
We decided to share a meal as we had taken an Uber there and would be going to a show. What I wanted wasn’t on the menu: Veal Limone, but our server informed us that that could be done. She was outstanding.
The meal was fabulous. The bread that is brought over is pretty good, but the ratio of oil to Balsamic is ridiculous. Less oil. More can always be added.
Overall, our drinks, service and food was exquisite. The restaurant is very small and the ambiance is ruined with unruly children. That is why I gave 4 stars.
Need more than one piece of asparagus on the gnocchi crab dish.
Local Italian restaurant. They specially made a dish for my husband of spicy vodka sauce and pasta. He loved it. I had a vegetarian dish which was supposed to be tortellini with pine nuts but it clearly was ravioli, which was fine but then tell me that before serving me the dish. It could use tablecloths instead of brown butcher paper like placemats but maybe that’s the old school charm of this place. We live in NY and the cheesecake was absolutely delicious here. Minus one star because we had a reservation yet they still sat us by the kitchen .. right next to it. We asked to be moved and were told no. We would’ve gladly waited. That left a bad vibe. Because of this we would not return.
Service was quick and pleasant. Loved our waiter -
Very good service and good food. Pasta Bolegnese was over-sauced but tasty.
Everything we had was amazing, had an upscale homey feel. We will definitely be back.
The restaurant was quite busy and it took longer than we would have liked for our food to be served. However, once it came we were pleased. Two of us enjoyed different gnocchi dishes, one loved the seafood risotto, and the fourth was delighted with his seafood pasta. This is a great place to eat if you are going to the Balboa or San Diego Repertory Theatre.
One of my favorite restaurants! Food is consistently delicious, close to the theater, good atmosphere.
