It comes from the Hawaiian word for Moonfish, which was once viewed as Good Luck by fisherman, & often given away as a gesture of Good Will.

OPAH Restaurant & Bar @ Town Center Aliso Viejo Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went on New Years Eve for dinner and had an amazing time. We sat outside and the heat lamp kept us very comfortable. Our server was Sean and we had the best service. From drinks to desert everything was delicious, memorable and timely. Overall we had a great experience as always!
I have been to Opah several times and have always enjoyed my self. The energy and food are great. I came this time after a long hiatus, due to having my first baby, excited to have lunch with my friends and my new little one. Having been here pretty-baby, I know that this is not a kid friendly restaurant. I just can’t imagine I am the first person to go their with a little one and I was surprised to find no changing table in the women’s bathroom. While this personally won’t stop me from coming back to Opah, I was surprised to find this out and I will be prepared next time. I am not even sure if they have high chairs. I know they don’t have the slings for car seats, as I asked for one of them and the hostess didn’t even know if they had those and came to find they did not.
Price for portion served above my expectation for a bistro type food service establishment. There was no preseive value to justify the high price point...
FYI, Saffron in mussel order was not done the proper way in order to get more essensce and to bring out the saffron flavor, & I believe they use the Sysco bought Spanish saffron va. Authentic Persian saffron!

We ate here twice recently during what is usually a busy holiday season when service can vary. Both times food and service were great, and you still left feeling they not only served wonderful food but really paid attention to you. On the second occasion we brought our dog and they could not have been more accommodating on finding us a nice outside dining table. Both times the owner came by checking on us. This place is a winner.
Reservation produced a seat in the bar ( although someone said it was less noisy than the other side of the dinning room. )
Service was ok . No one ever told us about specials which I noticed above the bar after we had ordered. They were Very intent on clearing plates even if we were not done. Don’t dare put down your fork & talk. It will be removed!
Muscles in red curry was very good. Chicken meatball app was tasty. Wine choices were ok. Nothing great & slightly overpriced. I asked for “ lots of dressing” & was charged $2 extra. Salads were fresh.
Overall a good but not great experience.
We went there on a Sunday night late with a reservation but there were very few people in the restaurant. We had our choice of tables. Our server was fantastic, very friendly and quick to help. We ordered French onion soup and a couple of appetizers. She even brought us a special sauce for one of the appetizers without our asking. She was attentive and extremely nice. The food was delicious, although the soup could have been hotter. It was very tasty, just not very hot, but not worth sending back. The appetizers - the chicken meatballs and the coconut shrimp - were fantastic and just enough for 2 people to share and be satisfied. Great restaurant!
We dine here quite a bit and love it for one of the better local restaurants in Aliso Viejo. Unfortunately our food was a bit off on Friday evening. The burger patti was cold inside and had to be send back. Both the salmon filets were little uncooked in the center.
Our food was delicious. The only problem we had was that the waiter should have waited to order our entrees. We told him we were in no hurry and that we wanted to enjoy our starter and a glass of wine and not be rushed. Apparently he put in the order for the entrees, then, when he saw that we weren't done with the starter, he brought us cold entrees that obviously had been sitting in the kitchen waiting for pickup. The kitchen simply reheated the entrees, which is never ideal. The food was still very good, but the fish had dried out slightly in reheating. The waiter ordered the entrees too soon. Still, we love this restaurant. Excellent quality food.
Great food, ambiance and happy hour!! Great spot for “Girls’ night out”. Happy hour serves great drink and food choice for a variety of appetitites! My favorite is the nachos but I also recently enjoyed some new appetizers.... the bacon wrapped dates and the cucumber and chicken meatballs! All were very yummy!!! Great skinny margarita!!
Glad to see the return of the won ton nachos, our favorite starter! Impeccable, attentive service from our server Sean, which made our wonderful meal a warm prelude to our matinee show at the nearby Edwards Theater. We look forward to returning again soon and more often.
Never disappoints. Only had starters with drinks. Ginger meatballs and coconut shrimp were excellent. Tried their plate of 3 oysters on half shell...excellent. The short rib pot pie was also good. Sounds like a lot but we were sharing. More than enough to eat. Thank goodness it was happy hour, saved a little money. Stephan made sure we were taken care of. A little expensive but a very nice dinner out.
After reading all of the glowing reviews, we tried Opah last night. A great disappointment! Starting with lousy service, tasteless bread, dry short ribs, coconut shrimp without coconut, having to ask for butter three times, we won't be coming back for dinner. However, the clam chowder was excellent! We may come back for a bowl of chowder and a glass of wine, but the overpriced tasteless meals? Forget about it.
This restaurant is a surprise. Out in Aliso Viejo, and 10 stars across the board.
Food presentation is as creative as a Magnum Restaurant. I have experienced countless 100.00 plate dining establishments and this restaurant deserves notice!
I have mussels every time, and they are always impeccably served with flower garnish! The servers always keep watch and ensure I never have a ugly bowl of shells
and replace with a clean bowls and silverware without request.
The service is "as if" you were like living Downton Abbey.
I have sample many main courses and specials now, and I have never been let down.
No dressing on all 4 guests Caesar salads! Had to ask for dressing which should not happen! Also, ridiculous $20.00 corkage fee! Fish and chips good. The "Key Lime Pie "was horrible! Should never have ordered it! Not like the traditional Key Lime at other restaurants. Not really happy for the amount of the meals and noise!
Everything was delicious! I was a bit disappointed, when I made the reservation I stated it was for a birthday hoping they would do a little special surprise. We ordered dessert and when it was served there was no candle. I quickly asked if they had a candle, our server brought one out promptly which was fine. I am also in the restaurant business and find those little details quite important. Otherwise our dining experience was great.
