About Old Surrey Restaurant
The Old Surrey Restaurant is Surrey’s best well- kept secret. Built in 1918, it was the residence of Lou Jack and his household until it was converted into a restaurant in 1974.
The interior has a crisp, clean aesthetic that is enhanced by hardwood floors and the enlarged photos of historic Surrey that adorn the walls. There are five distinct dining areas on the top floor (including a cozy library) and a banquet facility downstairs. The cuisine is French with a splash of West Coast flare. A treat for new and seasoned guests alike are the signature dishes that are prepared and flambeed tableside.
The restaurant is family owned and operated since 1975. Since 1984 the restaurant has entered into a partnership with the family farm in Ryder Lake overlooking Chilliwack from the nearby mountains. The Old Surrey is well known for its free-range lamb and veal allowing customers to enjoy fresh organic ingredients.

Old Surrey Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We dined at the Old Surrey Restaurant for the fourth time in the last 30 or so years earlier this week. As expected, it was great again!
We had our first great meal there when our kids were young and we lived in North Surrey. Since then we have lived in Burnaby, Port Moody, Vancouver, St. John's, NL and now New Westminster. And occasionally we return sort of like homing pigeons to the Old Surrey Restaurant.
My wife and I both chose the Fall/Winter fixed menu that offered lots of options. We both chose bruschetta and a wedge salad with blue cheese dressing to start. I had lamb that was medium in a lovely mint gravy and my wife had salmon. For dessert I had a ginger cheesecake that was very good and my wife had puffed pastry with apple that she took home with a good chunk of her salmon.
Meantime, I devoured everything presented to me...And it was--as expected--a wonderful and memorable meal.
Absolutely recommended for any occasion. Fabulous specials on throughout the year and do take advantage of them. Bang for the buck and the food and service are always outstanding. Not enough could be said on this. Old Surrey is one of those “hidden gems” that once discovered you will always come back again and again.
Old Surrey is a favourite with our whole family. When you're there they treat you like family. We love the table side food prep and the fact they are a "make the customer" happy type of restaurant. They allow you to make changes to your menu order without a complaint or problem. Our children love to join us and enjoy the interaction and fun we have with the servers. Love this restaurant!
Wonderful food, with special features prepared at the table. Rotating seasonal prix fixe specialties. Cozy rooms and the noise level allows conversation with your dining companions! The only downside is a very small parking lot, so come early enough for your reservation to find a spot.
We had the fall special choosing the Soft Shell Crab (Very Good) , Beef Wellingdon - also very
good and Spring Lamb Rack of Lamb & Leg - not as tender as I would have liked. The Caesars Salad was excellent as was our dessert (Brownie with BlackBerry Flambeu.
visited Old Surrey Restaurant with friends to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. Couldn't have been a more perfect evening. Food was delicious and beautifully presented; service is attentive but relaxed allowing time for visiting. The lack of music and background noise made it very enjoyable for our hear-aid folks. We totally enjoyed our private dining room and will be back for sure.
We had not been to the Old Surrey in a very long time. I took my husband there for his Birthday and we were definitely very impressed. The food was 5 star as was the service. A lovely place to go for a special dining experience. The atmosphere is quiet, fine dining and worth it to try.
Quite good food, uneven service, dirty floor. On the night we visited, there were two or more large parties there, and the smaller tables were essentially ignored. This used to be my local restaurant of choice - I stopped going a few years back because of poor service - but decided to try them again because the chateaubriand special is so good. It seems as though they do not assign a designated server to a specific table and consequently, several servers try to "fit" the smaller tables in when s/he can. If they expect to keep their customer base, they need to pick up their game regarding the service flow.
Came with my family for my moms birthday. Love the heritage building. They flambé things at the table which is fun. The food was all really good. They have lots of great BC wines-- Although slightly over priced(it's general practice at restaurants to charge double what they pay for a wine but here it was a bit higher.) at least the wine list doesn't suck like most places in Surrey. It was cute in there and my mom really liked it which when you boil it down if the birthday girl is happy then you're all happy. Goodnight over all.
We had our 11th wedding anniversary. I requested the library as I had eaten there before many years ago.
The service was friendly and professional without being intrusive. We chose the briand for two which was superb. Next time we are going to have the lamb from their farm in Chilliwack.
I have been enjoying the menu at the Old Surrey Restaurant together with my wife, family, and friend for years. I have no recollection of a disappointing meal ever. The serving staff are plentiful, attentive, and amazing. Spiros is a gem. He always make the evening perfect. The food is pricey, but always amazing. Made perfectly, and always consistently good. It is at this restaurant that I don't mind spending a premium for a good meal; I am never disappointed. The wine menu is varied and interesting, though, I do have my go to favorites. If I do feel a little adventurous and feel a need to experiment with a new wine, then I can always depend on knowledge and experience of the Old Surrey Restaurant staff to recommend the perfect wine. I would recommend that if you are interested in experiencing this restaurant that you don't do it during their special occasions like Mothers Day or Valentines. The staff handles these special dates like pros, but it is during the quieter evenings while sitting in the library room that you will truly experience this restaurant at its best.
