The food was not good. I had the pork chop special and it was very fatty and came out undercooked. Our server was very attentive and gracious but the poor quality food ruined the night.
Arrived late in the evening and the staff were wonderful to accommodate us. For all the conversation about the Boar's Head Inn have to say that I felt the dinner was a bit lackluster. I would go back, it was good - but it is not a destination dining location.
come here often for brunch. its a nice buffet, but the best thing is nobody rushes you. a relaxed environment where you can visit with friends without a time constraint.
The restaurant was highly recommended and exceeded our expectations. Service was outstanding and the food was well prepared and delicious!
We went here for Valentine's Day and was very pleasantly pleased. Not only was the server courteous, sweet, and accommodating. Since it was Valentine's Day, they had a prix fixed menu. At the end, they had already included the service charge. Since the service was so spectacular and it was Valentine's Day, we wanted to give a little more. So we scratched out the number because we wanted to give closer to 30%. When we saw the final bill on our account, they were concerned that maybe our generosity came from our drinks and reverted back to the default percentage (which I believe was 18%). We completely intended the 30% gratuity, but I definitely respect this establishment now that they put their customer's welfare over potential income, and take that into consideration when charging the final bill.
Oh, and other than the amazing service, the food was PHENOMENAL. Would totally recommend especially for special occasions!!
I always look forward to and enjoy the buffet brunch at the Old Mill Room. It is a wonderful place to celebrate birthdays with friends. This time I had a guest who had never been there and it was a special treat for her special day. I am never disappointed with the food or the service.
My husband and I chose to dine at the Boar's Head Inn to celebrate our 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary. We always enjoy dining there for lunch or dinner. The luncheon buffet is a favorite - great selection and beautifully displayed. Our only disappointment was that in booking our reservation via Open Table we let the restaurant know it was a very special occasion. When we arrived, we did not feel we needed to mention our Silver Anniversary as we had done so in the Comments section of Open Table. No one said or did anything special to recognize our celebratory luncheon!
Great place for a special dinner
Had a great experience at Old Mill Room at Boars Head. The food was amazing, service to start was a little slow, but out server was fantastic and nice, and once we got drinks everything else was great. Great wine list, and the most AMAZING Bluecheese Breadpudding.
amazing experience, very luxurious! Great food and staff. Wine list could be better. Expensive.
As always, the Old Mill Room at the Boar's Head Inn did not disappoint. The service, from the moment we walked into the space was efficient, quiet, and perfect. Our salad starters were simple, but perfect; tidy bindles of greens, wrapped with paper-thin cucumber slices, dressed with a fruity sherry vinaigrette with strawberries & candied pecans added....a wonderful salad. Entrees were roasted pork tenderloin with an apple / BBQ glaze, accompanied by a sweet potato waffle and green veg.....excellent! Wife had the beef tenderloin with parmesan risotto and broccolini....equally excellent!! Desserts were a peanut butter bread pudding for me and a dish of blackberry-lime sorbet for her....wonderful endings!!!
We always love the BHI, and the Old Mill Room. It is the quintessential country inn locale, and the food never disappoints.
Our server, Kirby, was totally on point last night, and we had a marvelous time. This Restaurant Week evening was a winner for us, even if it started with 2 feet of snow.
Impeccable service. Very attentive staff -- even to the point of using our names. Food was well prepared and presented. We came during Restaurant Week -- and all three courses were excellent, but we both particularly loved the dessert.
We have dined at the Old Mill Room @ Boar's Head Inn on numerous occasions. This past dinner was a birthday celebration for me, but not the first one at this restaurant. The setting is warm and welcoming, the service is top notch and the food is well prepared and of the highest quality. The entire evening was wonderful and as locals, we also enjoy the buffet luncheon on occasion. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Charlottesville!
Not knowing much about the Boar's Head Inn, my wife and I were very surprised by the quality and originality of the meal. I started with the fig stuffed quail as an appetizer and it was a great hit setting up the meal to follow with even greater expectations. The rest did not fail. The signature peanut soup was fantastic although another 1 or 2 peanut fritters would have been even better. The chef was a little stingy on this, so it was more a cream soup. The Sea Bass was another fabulous dish. Best of all, a great wine list with plenty of diversity and Virginia wine at great prices. This place is the bomb and a must return to destination dining room.
This was our third dining experience with the first two meals being magnificent and both well prepared plus properly seasoned. This time they were still well prepared but lacked the seasoning that comes with a little kosher salt. We do not use much salt and many restaurants do use too much so we were greatly surprised that we found ourselves looking around for some salt. Other than that our server was as pleasant and properly attentive as previous visits. We have dined in many restaurants across cities, states, and countries and our children work in restaurant kitchens so we are fully aware that any kitchen can have an off-night. We will return for another meal sometime in the future.
The atmosphere was charming and yet elegant, the Christmas decorations were still up when we were there on January 3rd and they were stunning! The staff was quite attentive.
My husband who usually does not enjoy Sunday brunches cannot wait to bring other family members...he was so impressed with the entire setup especially the carving table with the Prime rib. He kept exclaiming "This is melt in your mouth delicious, the best I ever had!"
It was an enjoyable experience for all of us and we will return soon.
The buffet was amazing, especially for a lunch buffet. I am still dreaming about the peanut soup. The baked salmon was outstanding and so was the beef filet. To top off an already fabulous lunch, the dessert choices were overwhelming. I tried the yule log and the peach bread pudding. Both were wonderful. We'll be going back in the near future for lunch.
Went for our anniversary. The Inn is beautiful and was wonderfully decorated for the holidays! Our wait staff was very efficient and friendly. The food quality was very good. My husband had the quail, a salad, the trout special and the chocolate dessert. I had the macaroni and cheese, a salad, the veal entree and the key lime cheesecake. We had one glass of wine each. We weren't sure what wine to order so our waiter brought us two to try first. The ambiance is quite nice. Our meal came to $206 (including a $30 tip). I felt it overpriced. The last time we dined at the Boars Head Inn, it was during restaurant week...was a much more reasonable value. It was a special occasion so we didn't mind splurging but I felt it was worth about $150 considering we didn't even buy a whole bottle of wine.
The Boar's Head's Old Mill Room is a great choice when you are looking for a truly special meal. The beautiful decor with white tablecloths, candlelight, excellent food and wine. and always top notch service. We love to come here for special occasions. We even brought our 3 young children recently and the service was exceptional. They surprisingly had a kid's menu and crayons to keep the children entertained.
This is our "go-to" restaurant for special family meals and this time it was New Year's Day brunch. A fantastic selection of delicious and varied dishes (it would be nice to have a version of "hoppin john" without the sausage for vegetarians), and truly wonderful service and ambience. A true Charlottesville experience.
