Wonderful cocktails and flavorful food! We split the broccoli salad with homemade farmer’s cheese. Never had a salad like that- very innovative. And my wife had the most tasty hoppin’ Johns. I was a bit envious but my grouper was cooked to perfection in a lovely cream sauce. Such a great experience!
I’m a huge Olamaie fan, but the service was just OK. The wait staff didn’t acknowledge our requests for food to be delivered in a particular order and the food itself took a long time to come out. For one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Austin, it was a bit of a letdown.
Not a good value and hard to sort out a reservation.
A delicious meal, great service, warm surroundings. A great evening!
Great food and service; do wish the prices were a bit more reasonable and that the environment was quieter.
The Valentine's menu desserts were very disappointing.
My son and I dined late on a week night and enjoyed every moment. The rooms were pleasantly low-lit and decorated with spare elegance. The food was expertly prepared with unexpected flavors and combinations. Delicious.
I paid $130 for steak that should have been pink, medium rare, but it was translucent and chewy and raw (see pics). Even after they "re-cooked" it. The ambience and staff were very nice. I feel like I paid for the experience. But the steak itself was not worth $130. It was a high grade piece of meat that was utterly destroyed. The bark was over seared and extremely over seasoned. Maybe to make up for the lack of flavor in the meat itself.. and maybe to make up for the meat not being cooked. Either way, at least I can now be satisfied that I can very literally make a better $12 steak at home. And although I paid a pretty penny for this huge disappointment, at least I won't be wasting any more money here ever again. I consider that savings in the long run. The famed biscuits.. they were very good. But highly overrated. The sides and apps were surprising, flavorful, and good. The Grouper was just kind of plain and okay.. the mushroom sauce upgraded it to decent. Overall, this place isn't worth top 20 in Austin.
Great service all around combined with rare ability to make amazingly ornate, delicious dishes that aren't pretentious.
Service was perfect, food was excellent, biscuits amazing (we took some home).
After reading reviews about salt and quality for price, we had a little concern. Our meal was fantastic. We’ve been in Austin for many years (one of us born and raised). Easily the best food and service in the city. Portions are large. Food was familiar, but creative and thoroughly delicious. Service was professional and present when needed. Crazy good cocktails. Outstanding wine list. Top notch across the board. Will be back very soon. We found a new favorite!
Arrived early and our table was not ready. That was OK since there was a nice place to sit and chat and have a drink. Sitted at our reservation time and greeted by waiter but I could not hear his name when he said it. Ordered appetizers and meal at the same time. Appetizers (hushpuppies) came quickly and were tasty. Meal (pork chop) came after a rather long delay (not long enough to look at my watch) and it, too, was tasty if a bit salty. Rather disappointed about the dessert selections so we opted to go to Amy's for ice cream. I guess what I will say is that I am not in a hurry to go back but I wasn't angry.
Olamaie lived up to expectations. The service was outstanding! Possibly the best we have encountered in our 18 years in Austin! Our waitress guided us through the menu and provided the perfect amount of food that fit our taste and appetite. What kept us from giving it five stars was the dessert. We had the tomato cream puff and it left much to be desired. After a great bottle of wine, starters and Grouper cooked wonderfully we ended on a mediocre note with the cream puff. However, we would return in a heartbeat. The atmosphere, service and, of course, THE BISCUITS! Thank you for a great experience.
I didn't remember requesting an outside table, but it turned out to be okay. It was our anniversary, and they had a note for us. The plates were very shareable. The Wagyu steak was expensive, but at 18oz, we brought home enough to make another meal for two. In fact, we brought home some of the delicious side dishes. I would definitely recommend it to friends for special occasions (because of the price). Our only distress was the loudness of the large group that was already seated on the deck when we arrived. Once they left, we and the other diners on the deck enjoyed a very nice ambiance.
Very overpriced for the quality. As others have noted in reviews, food was very salty. First courses were super small for the price.
The food was excellent but someone in the kitchen over salted four of the five main courses just before they came out. You could see the salt on the surface of the food. When we talked about it the next day, we agreed that we should have sent them back.
Server was extremely inattentive even though her tables were close together. She basically ignored us after taking the order. Not once did she check to see how things were and we had to flag her down to order a glass of wine—AFTER our entrees were served. The chicken dish was over salted to the point of being inedible. But since she never checked back we were unable to have it corrected. The management offered to remake it but by then everyone was finished eating. We weren’t charged for the chicken but that was the only compensation. And the server made it seem like it was our fault. It was a very disappointing experience after looking forward to what I thought was going to be a special night out. On a positive note, our appetizers of shrimp and hush puppies were outstanding.
This was a very disappointing meal for the price point. Service was okay, although it took forever to get drinks while we waited for our table. Once we sat, the service was good however, nobody checked on our table or asked how our meal was. The one highlight of the meal were the biscuits. But after that every dish we ordered was subpar at best. We had a shrimp and red rice appetizer that had forgotten to be salted altogether. Was not enjoyable to eat. Ordered hush puppies and they were okay. A pork entree came out cold and the sauce didn’t feel composed. Though I guess the pork was well cooked. With a pre dinner cocktail, a bottle of wine and apps and entrees for two the tab was $260. Which for the quality of food, is supremely disappointing.
Seated outside on a rainy night. Nice except for a decaying smell from the garbage cans next door. Food is way overpriced and very limited. Not sure why this is on the ‘Top’ lists. Would not recommend.
I recommend requesting a table on the patio for a more intimate experience. The service and food was spectacular. A perfect spot to spend for a special occasion.
Amazing food every time. We love this place
food was fine, but not great. overpriced. drinks were yummy but expensive and overpriced as well. bummer!
We enjoyed our dinner very much! We were early and sat in the bar. Enjoyed the non alcoholic cocktails and they were able to seat us early. The noise level was pretty high which made hearing the waiter difficult.
My fish was delicious!
Ambiance nice. Food a bit too buttery & rich!
Great meal, great service. Would definitely go back.
Was not in love with my view of the parking garage across the street on date night. However- service, food (especially the biscuits), and other factors made up for the difference in my opinion. Would definitely recommend!
Table next to us had an argument...for an hour and a half. Told server, told manager. Was told “Sorry”
For having such a small menu you would think the food would be fabulous because they could focus on the 6 main dishes that are offered. We got an order of their famous biscuits, they were not memorable. For the amount of money it wasn't worth it. I expected the chicken and pork dishes we ordered not be dried out. And the wine selection is slim pickings. I wanted a bottle of white and ended up with one from South Africa. We didn't even finish it. I visit Austin a couple of times a year and look forward to trying the food the chefs in this town have to offer, this was just okay.
Everything was awesome. Biscuits with honey butter were perfect. Pork chop and snapper were outstanding.
I don’t say this lightly, this was the best steak I have ever eaten. Wonderful service and great atmosphere.
Great great food. Great great service.
We wanted to treat our friends to the best dining experience possible, and we were terribly disappointed. For starters, the chairs in the entry area were very dirty. The food was over-salted, and portions were very small. The $130 steak was not at all special. Cocktails were served in the smallest stemware I've ever seen at a restaurant. Dinner and wine for four was $900, and we've had better food at one-tenth the cost. I would not recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Food and service and atmosphere were all delightful. The problem came with the check - there was an extra item on the check and, after I called the server back, and before I could identify the specific item on the check that was a problem, the server said "Yes, I'll take that glass of wine off." I feel that there was an effort to load the check, that the server got caught, and the server certainly did a lousy job of handling the situation - as if this was simply a game and not a question of the restaurant's credibility. I will likely not return, even though the food was superb.
The restaurant was really great in every way but one. Our expensive wagyu steak was simply not a high quality cut if meat and at 150 for a plate it sets a high expectation. That being said it was cooked perfectly, everything else was nearly flawless, the service was great and they gave us a small break. I'd go back for sure, I just wouldn't suffer through a poor steak next time. After the first struggle to cut through it I should have known better.
Loved our waitress, she was very kind and offered to go over many of the dishes in detail especially since I am an expecting mom. I cannot wait to go back.
The food was amazing and the bottle of wine that was recommended to us was exactly what we were looking for. Get the beans and ham and the red snapper. We will be back!
Beautiful setting, great service and great food. A must go while in Austin.
We will be back without a doubt.
Our entrees were very favorable albeit very rich. My date had the fish and I had the pork chop. Both dishes were $45. I felt like that is too expensive. The pork chop was 10oz so a sizable portion and cooked to perfection. The accompanying sorghum was maybe 4-6 tablespoons and that was rich and salty.
My date's fish was the better dish, but again very rich. 6oz of fish with a collard green puree which I felt was overcooked, again maybe 4-6 tablespoons.
Ribeye was amazing and drink pairing was excellent!
