One of the best dinning experiences I’ve had in Austin
Our server said they were known for their biscuits and he didn't lie. Clearly the best I've ever had. Nice ambience and great service; however, the menu is limited as is the wine list. I would still recommend it though.
Had dined there several times previously & loved it. Took 3 friends for 1st time experience for one of the Southern Cookbook dinners (I had attended 1 previously).
Cocktail should have arrived before 1st course as it was a full cocktail whereas each course was just Tasting size portions
Wine pour was only 2-3 sips.
Biscuits still best ever
Dessert big disappointment: “cake” was 1/4” thick & no flavor even w toppings.
Biggest complaint was noise!! At these prices expect to be able to carry on conversation. Initially music too loud - they did turn that down, but overall with a full dining room & all hard surfaces, the normal noises were amplified. Easy solution used at other restaurants: add foam covered panels to the walls/ceiling or even easier glue foam sheets to the underside of the tables - problem solved.
Overall not the same experience I’ve had before, but definitely will try again!
Wonderful evening with family and fabulous food. Wonderful service. A little loud because the place was full!
If you're in Austin and looking for simply great food – give this a try. Very nice small house converted over to restaurant. The patio is beautiful and would be perfect for a fall night dinner. Definitely try the hushpuppies. Our waiter was very helpful and recommended a few things. We ordered and shared the tomato pie and a fish entree. The portions are not large, but just enough. The biscuits never disappoint. This is by far not the cheapest place to eat and drink, but a really nice place to go for a special night out.
After hearing great things about this restaurant, I was expecting more. Food was flavorful but very complex and a bit over the top. Restaurant was beautiful and quaint just not wowed by the experience.
Excellent food in general and service is great. Converted old house with smallish dining area, wood floors. All hard surfaces make for an extremely loud environment. Table was too large for our party of three, so felt awkward. Menu has remained largely the same over the years we've dined here. Some dishes this evening were stellar (red snapper and chocolate dessert); others just okay (the chicken, which was also very pricey).
The service is superb. The biscuits are to die for. Lovely place until more people arrived, creating a very noisy atmosphere. Highly recommend.
5 Star, Olamaie is lovely, every detail is fabulous! Don’t forget to start with the biscuits!
Great southern food. The menu description can be understated, but everything is delicious!
In one word, PERFECT! Olamaie is delicious, absolutely adorable inside, modern and the BEST service I have ever had in Texas. It's a perfect place to share plates and enjoy handcrafted cocktails, wine or beer. You have to try it!
Awesome food, ate there once and had to go back for a second time
Third time dining here. We took a foodie friend from out of town and had a very good dinner. Make sure you always ask for biscuits! The only negative was our server’s inability to open our wine bottle at our table—after showing it to us, she went back to the bar to pop the cork and then returned to our table with the bottle already opened! We don’t recall anything like that happening before and it was a little weird.
I highly recommend Olamaie, we enjoyed our dinner. Very quaint restaurant close to downtown Austin hot spots.
All the best inputs with a mediocre result. The food was well prepared and presented. The flavors and sauces/finishes were just ok. Enjoyable meal, slightly overpriced. The bar and bartenders were top notch.
Order the Hoppin' John, it was amazing! Perfect portion of beans, crispy rice and southern hospitality.
Great wine list, fun cocktails, yummy appetizers and don't forget THE BISCUITS! We'll be back.
Truly amazing! A complete food experience. Best biscuits I’ve ever tried in my life. All of their dishes were seasonal so you could really taste how fresh every element of the dish were. Can’t wait to go back!
Terrible wait staff. Food was dry and over salted. Would not recommend.
We waited until the last minute to book a reservation, and the only seating available was outside. Thankfully, there is a quaint spot in the waiting lounge where 2-3 (max) can dine. We were able to score the corner spot and enjoy our meal in the cool! We started with the biscuits (of course)....melt in your mouth biscuits. Also the hush puppies....the hush puppies were unlike any we've ever had. Soooo delicious. Then the tomato basil pie. Just WOW! Definitely try the above 3. You will enjoy every scrumptious bite! While our meal was tasty (red snapper and chicken), we would definitely return just to sample and enjoy more of their small plates. Kasey was our extremely knowledgeable, friendly and attentive server. We most certainly recommend Olamaie's and we will definitely be back!
Beautiful decor and ambiance. Incredible food and friendly service.
We have gone to the restaurant for more than three years now and we always have a great time and the food is fantastic. But this time when we visited the prices were abnormally high and honestly weren’t very worth it. So if you want to go to this restaurant be prepared to unload your cash.
Another exceptional experience at Olamaie. Just a different level than most Austin restaurants.
We live in Washington State but were in Austin for the weekend. We did solicit advice from various people on where to have the one dinner while in town. We chose Olamaie because it was considered southern food and we like traditional southern dinners. It definitely met our expectations of gourmet southern. To start we got two appetizers, the hush puppies and the peas. Both were delicious and prepared as described. For dinner we chose the pork chop and the eggplant. We both dislike eggplant but it came recommended so we gave it a try. I don’t like eggplant at all but this was delicious. We were both quite full but wanted to finish every bite of our dinner. The service was just as excellent. He gave good suggestions, checked on us often and made sure we were happy. I made our reservation and requested to be outside. The hostess said we could still sit outside but highly recommended that we consider sitting inside and offered us a quiet lovely table. We were glad she did. It was hotter than we realized (103). The staff in this restaurant definitely cares if their customers are happy from the minute they arrive to the minute they leave. I would definitely dine at Olamaie again.
I have been here twice before and was blown away. Unfortunately today we had a different experience. It was very warm to where we were sweating in our seats. I have loved the food in the past but we were pretty disappointed with the pork chop today. Biscuits still as good as ever though! Love you guys!
I had heard that Olamaie was good, but it far exceeded my expectations. The service was great and the food was fantastic. I have lived in Austin for over three years and it was easily one of the best meals I have had in the city.
The food was unique, creative, and incredibly delicious. The only reason I'd hesitate to return is the loud music and overall noise level. I was hoping for a quieter environment in which to enjoy such a wonderful meal. We would have stayed for dessert, but it was getting even louder as the place filled up.
We didn’t realize it was a pre fixed menu with no options. Service was way too fast. We would have come a different night.
Celebrating my wife's birthday we decided to try Olamaie. We were not disappointed as we saw the white clapboard house with the green shuttered windows. At our reserved table we were pleased to see the birthday wish note. Our waitress, Lauren, did an excellent job of explaining the menu. The small plates were large enough to share or to use as a small entree. The large plates would satisfy a very hungry person or could be split between two or three people. (this explains the 16 oz steak) We decided on trying the white shrimp plate and the crab fritter plate as shared appetizers. We enjoyed both plates and would have them again. My wife and I split the brined pork chop and loved the plate which presented the interior or pink side of the split pork chop. Delicious. My daughters split the Hoppin John and said that it was filling and tasty. Since we were there on a Monday night after 6 we were able to park for free on the street in front of the restaurant. The patio looked inviting but that will have to wait until we return in the cooler fall weather.
The food was good but nothing out of this world, specially considering the price point. We tried the biscuits, beef tartar, shrimp, fish, and pork. The fish was AMAZING, the pork was good... the rest was just OK.
The drinks were mixed.. we tried a couple from the HH menu and we enjoyed those and then we tried a couple from the main menu and those weren't anything special.
The service was very good and they acknowledged our celebration.
Dinner was absolutely delicious but a little pricier than I wanted to spend. But the food was definitely worth it.
Lovely meal, sat outside, fans on patio. Shared hushpuppies and beef tartare and pork chop entree. appetizers were great. biscuit with honey butter flaky and tasty. service excellent. pork chop was okay. next time will try one of the other entrees.
The food’s a little on the heavy side, the menu is extremely limited, the place is a little “down at the heels,” and the staff is aloof. I know all that sounds negative but here’s the strong points: (1) the limited menu is excellently prepared - delicious and satisfying; (2) the limited wine list is exquisite; (3) no one rushes you so you get to process slowly the pleasure of your meal - a rare thing these days. It’s definitely 4 out of 5 stars.
The Tuesday "Defining Women" pre-fix dinner was excellent.
Outstanding this restaurant could be anywhere in the world and fortunately for the people in Austin it’s in the middle of their town if you go to Austin stop here serious execution and commitment to culinary excellence !!
Beautiful place, but the tables are so close, and it's basically 1 big room..so there is no privacy at all. Food was good but I would rather just have BBQ at Terry Blacks and pay 1/5 the price.
Celebrated a quiet birthday. Food was outstanding (I had red snapper, wife had the pork chop; we shared a shrimp and rice small plate to start---- all outstanding). Really surprised at the high quality. Service was attentive and knew details on everything we asked. Dessert (vanilla Bundt cake with peach sorbet) was just OK after excellent main courses. We will definitely go back!
Wow! Food was amazing and the service was outstanding! I will definitely return on a future Austin trip. The menu changes up, which I like, and the chef does a really great job! Drinks are great as well.
Food was cold
Chicken was not cooked
Pork was cold and the sides were refrigerator cold.
Food is usually very good but this time the 5 entrees were not good.
Chef Mike is super friendly, hospitable and preparing fantastic dishes with his team. I'm excited to come back for more of the Summer series featuring women in southern cooking. Thank you for a great evening!
