I really enjoyed the ambiance outside and they accommodated us with a heat lamp and blankets. The drinks and the appetizers were delicious, however you could tell they were winding down for the night when it came to dinner. The waiter had spilled (it's ok it happens) as he was setting things down and didn't bother to clean it up, my friends order came out incorrectly, they took up our silverware when we were finished with appetizers but did not get a new set for my friend. This is not a cheap place to dine, so you expect the upmost service. Additionally, the meal just felt flat once everything arrived correctly. I felt like my scallops and butternut squash puree was not really seasoned and was sort of flavorless. The fish my friend ate ...by the time they got everything right, was eaten cold and also was lacking flavor. Also, while the restaurant itself was quiet the lounge bar inside which we visited after dinner was extremely loud. It seems like it turns into a club after a certain hour. It didn't bother us, but if you're looking for a romantic dinner location, that might be something to consider.
I dined here tonight with a long time friend who, unlike me (Meat + Potatoes =love) is a vegetarian. While we both loved the ambiance outdoors with the large patio and I had no problem ordering what I wanted, she cannot recommend this restaurant for its "good vegetarian options."
The other really nice thing about this patio was the fact that it was not noisy, and it had nice lighting. A very nice, comfortable place to enjoy a meal outside...
So please, make some more fish options for my friend so that we can come back here.
Celebrated our anniversary here. It was our third choice in Newport but others were booked. Food and service exceeded expectations. Ambiance was fun but we were seated near the bar and had a full view of the crew cleaning up the room behind the bar. Noisy and distracting but to be fair, we chose the table. This is a nice room with a great outdoor seating area and many cozy booths inside. We enjoyed the staff and the anniversary treat.
Our Waiter was amazing! The Cesare Salad was watery and didn’t have any flavor. The Filet was good the potatoes were awful. The deserts are not good at all! Very expensive for bad food.
Competent Hotel Restaurant. You will see attempts at creativity alongside burgers on the menu. We had a nice dinner as a group.
I had an amazing experience at the Oak Grill. I went for a quiet dinner for my birthday and everything went above and beyond expectations. Service was amazing. The food was great. And they even brought me out a birthday dessert, no charge. I got the James Dean cocktail, recommended by my server when I told him I usually enjoy a Jameson old fashioned but was looking for something a bit nicer. It was the absolute perfect dinner experience. And I went early enough that the restaurant was near empty, and the service was fast and impecible. I could not overstate what a wonderful experience I had there.
We were a Party of 8 for brunch. We enjoyed the outdoor seating under the large tree and had heat lamps above us to keep the chill away. Servers were very accommodating as we had special requests for steamed milk and soy milk for our coffee and extra plates. Food was very good for each of us tanging from waffles, eggs benedict, burger and salad.
Is nice to be able to speak and hear across the table and not feel rushed.
The Oak Grill is an outstanding restaurant and seating at night on the patio is romantic and sets a lovely tone. While the setting is somewhat casual, the attention to detail is consistent and the staff are responsive to any requests. The quality of the cuisine and the handcrafted cocktails is excellent. The entrees and starters are distinctive with subtle spices and perfect execution. The Oak Grill is on our shortlist of preferred restaurants.
Thanks to Open Table I landed at Oak Grill located int the Fashion Island Hotel, what a perfect choice to celebrate a friend's birthday. I selected Sharwama Spiced Rack of Lamb - absolutely delicious! My friend ordered Roast Chilean Sea Bass and was very pleased with her selection, for dessert the warm pineapple butter cake was a great way to cap off the evening and they presented a birthday treat along with her choice for dessert the delicious dark chocolate bar. Our server Valentina displayed A+ service with a engaging smile, we sat outside in a very comfortable ambiance, well -decorated layout, heat lamps worked very well on a somewhat cool evening. Parking is complimentary. Overall, I was really impressed with Oak Grill and look forward to returning.
Great place and dining experience. Without doubt, I would recommend this restaurant.
Outdoor seating is lovely. Food very good. Pleasant experience.
Fantastic food, great ambiance and excellent service.
It was very slow service. Food was good but having to wait 3 hours overall for dinner on a slow night was of little value for the cost of the meal.
To celebrate a birthday, a group of women met at the Oak Grill. We ordered 3 salads and 1 Reuben. The Cobb salad had wilted lettuce and little flavor, the other salads were only okay. The Reuben had lots of meat but apparently was also only "ok" though the fries were yummy.
Our server was very nice and provided good birthday dessert recommendations.
Ate outside in evening which kept noise level at a minimum. Great ambiance and service by waiter named Sina.
Great except wide screen a bit bright and distracting
Fantastic food, great ambiance, comfortable outdoor seating, great assortment of food. Date night or with friends
We love coming here! The service and food are always great!
Everything great but only pick this spot so we could enjoy cigars After dinner at the fire pits. They went smoke free Nov 1st so not likely to head back.
I took my friend here for a Thanksgiving dinner. It was $90/plate for a fixed menu. I’d done my research, so this was not a surprise. The selections on the menu were actually pretty solid. And until the main course, the food was good. (Not outstanding, just good.)
And then came the main course. I chose the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and roasted brussels sprouts. The mashed potatoes and stuffing were literally scooped from a larger batch with an ice cream scoop. I know this, as both were perfectly shaped as ice cream would have been. The turkey was processed in some way, as it didn’t have the consistency/fiberous nature that “normal” turkey would have. I suppose this could have been a genetic mutation of some sort.
I walked away with the thought that what I was served was hotel food. This fits, as this is a hotel restaurant. But, in most hotels at which I’ve stayed, the restaurant food is far better than what they would serve for room service. This was the room service quality food.
This said, the server was awesome, as was the rest of the service. Actually, I’d have preferred excellent food over excellent service if I had to make a choice. (Obviously, both would be desirable.)
Needless to say, Thanksgiving 2019 won’t be spent at Oak Grill.
Delightful Thanksgiving dinner.
Best crab cakes. Excellent service and food.
Service was outstanding. Did not rush dinner. Filet mignon was outstanding stuffed figs excellent lobster with two strips of lasagna and bread tomato sauce was Not very tasty. The combination of three was not to my liking. Waiter in manager responded on their own when they noticed the plate was half empty they offered to Give me another entrée at no charge. They did give me another fillet mignon to go. This offer is greatly appreciated and I will return again but no to not order the lobster dinner.
Oak Grill has a very nice ambiance and the staff are very kind, courteous, professional and attentive. If you have an opportunity to eat outside, I recommend you do so, because the outdoor area is very comfortable, well decorated, and the pool area is calming and beautiful. There is enough foliage to block some of the Fashion Island shopping activity directly across the street, yet there is enough exposure to keep the environment interesting for those who enjoy people watching while engaged in conversation. The food is very good and though I do not drink alcohol, the wine list is very inclusive.
A nice dinner in a lovely location. Thanks for everything!
We didn't know it was a hotel restaurant. Food was well prepared and the service good. The photos definitely took it up a level from reality. Still we had a very nice meal on the patio. The menu was straight forward and predictable. Portions were small despite premium pricing. The Groupon helped.
I nice place to take clients. We sat outside. It's a very cozy place. Good food!
We love Oak Grill. The food, service, atmosphere, etc. are outstanding. It's expensive, but we bite the bullet and enjoy ourselves every now & then.
I took out to dinner my new co-workers and they had an amazing time. After dining we ahead over to Aqua and danced the night away.
Fantastic service from Melody! She totally made our afternoon along with the delicious food!!
Service was good. Food was average.
Food was good as always. Service was good except for bread took long time to get there.
We had never been in this restaurant inside the Island Hotel in Newport Beach. The valet service was excellent however I wish the service in the restaurant was more like that. The waiters where so busy that we waited more than 10min for us to get acknowledged for a drink order and menus. I had to call our waiter and point out that we were feeling ignored. From that point on we had good service.
We will go back and try out the outside patio for dinner and maybe a drink at the bar inside the hotel.
The service on a Saturday night was very slow and we were in no rush! I had to go ask someone to get our drinks ordered. Had to pour our wine ourselves. Very slow to get food ordered.
Was disappointed as we had taken friends to celebrate a birthday!
Very fresh and nicely prepared food. Had the Niçoise salad, could have had a few more accompaniments, same with my friends lobster salad. Other than that, very good and very accommodating to food issues/allergies. Will go again. Also, really appreciate a full pour of Champagne ! 👌
Husband took me to dinner here, first we sat outside by the fire pit and listen to the entertainment, which was great and had a drink..everything was fine except that they let people smoke there, there was at least 5-6 guys smoking cigars and 1 cigarette smoker...so disgusting sitting there trying to have a good time when all you can do is smell smoke.
From there we went to dinner, we sat outside so we could still hear the music but couldn't smell the smoke.
Service was great and so was the food..everything was fantastic.
***Note to restaurant...in 2018 your fire pit area should be smokeless..the area isn't big enough to have people smoking.
My favorite restaurant! Love Aaron our server, we always ask for him.
Mac and cheese served with short ribs overwhelmed with butter. Macaroni was over cooked. We had better from our earlier visits to the restaurant.
Only few morsels of lobster meat on the lobster salad. Disappointing
Manager should ask patrons from one table to lower their voice watching sports game. There are other patrons like to dine in a quiet setting .
This was our second visit to Oak Grill. We sat on the patio both times at a really nice large table. Had 2 different waiters that were both outstanding. The first time we came for dinner and the food was really good. The second was for Sunday brunch (good variety of choices off menu) and of course the $10 bottomless mimosas. We will be back for sure!
Food was excellent the Banyan Courtyard was really nice everything was excellent except for right next to it in the Aqua room bar, they allowed smoking cigars. The cigar and cigarette smoke blew over when the s the Santa Ana winds blowing and all of us had cigars and cigarettes to deal with. There should be no smoking allowed in that area right next to a restaurant. Didn't even know that was legal.
