The food quality and presentation were very good. Service was a little spotty. Although they came to take our order before we had even settled in yet, we had to ask for table settings, shoyu, plates, and they forgot one of our rolls so we had to wait for that too. It also took a very long time to get a hot tea. The menu is limited outside of sushi and sashimi so we ordered a couple of Unagi-don which is off the menu but were shocked to find out that they charged us $34 for each one. It was delicious and a generous portion but not a good value so I would not recommend.
My family came here to celebrate a birthday. I had a feeling that this is not the type of restaurant that I would normally go to, but some of my family members had a decent experience before, so they requested to dine here. Ugh, I should have stood my ground and insisted that we go elsewhere. The food here is awful--I don't get why they have such high ratings on Yelp, but I'm guessing it's because the patrons who frequent this place are not familiar with good Japanese food. Nothing is authentic here. Rolls drenched in sauce are not considered sushi. Ramen was not even made with the proper type of noodles, nor the right type of broth. The "live" lobster special that our server recommended was not fresh, tiny in portion (we were told it would easily feed 4 adults) and the soup that they make with the claws and the head was terrible. It was so salty, the server had to fill our bowls with hot water. Even then, the lobster meat was beyond salty. We barely managed to eat the lobster meat as we were hungry and didn't want to be wasteful. Oh and everything is overpriced. They got rid of the bento options for dinner, so we had to order everything a la carte (they charged $8 for a side of steamed vegetables!), which added up very quickly. I don't mind paying a lot of money if the quality, taste, ingredients, and portion are worth the price, but what we ordered failed in every way. The only saving grace at this "Japanese" restaurant is the service. Our server worked very hard to try to right the wrong committed by the kitchen staff and the owner. He was friendly, apologetic (they forgot some of our orders, our inedible "soup" took forever), and hard working. We all agreed that his talent is being wasted at O and he should be recruited by a way better restaurant. So why only 4 stars for service? Because we trusted his recommendation of the nasty lobster special. He should know his food better and not just recommend dishes that are expensive. Never, ever returning again!!
The food was very good, however one of the servers was absolutely horrible. This girl made a mistake and entered our order wrong, then took it out on us with a very spiteful attitude the rest of the evening. If it wasn’t for another server coming over to take care of us we would have gotten up and left. As I stated before, the food was very good... however with such a nasty and quite frankly childish server on their staff, I don’t think I’ll be back. Plenty of other great spots in OC.
We continue to go back because the food is excellent. But... the service is marginal. The waiters are friendly enough but you wait forever for them to come with your beverage and appetizer. Then when the food comes out, it comes in a rush and then the waiters are gone. When we are finished we always have to wave them down after waiting for too long with empty plates. Food excellent; pacing of service needs lots of work!
They were able to accommodate our party of 8 on a Friday night. Plenty of seating. The sushi and ramen were yummy and filling. I love that they do half orders of the sushi since I like having options. There was some confusion on the half order vs. full order when it was brought to our table, but they were willing to accommodate us which I really appreciated! We'll definitely be back!
Service and food seems to vary from visit to visit. We always sat at the sushi bar but because when sushi chef's get busy with the table orders it looses some of the appeal not being able to talk to them.
More importantly, there could be a bit more "polish" in how thing like bussing tables go...we had a busboy pushing around a wheeled dish cart as opposed to picking up the dishes and returning them to the kitchen...for a moment it felt like we were in a school cafeteria as the cart of dirty dishes / food rolled by, totally unappetizing!
Net / net I spent over $100 for two and expected a much better experience.
Our friends have eaten here before and liked it. Went there tonight and sushi was awful. Super fishy smelling Tuna, even the California rolls were off and fishy. Service wasn't good either unfortunately. For some reason they kept bringing us teriyaki steak we didn't order to the point where it turned into a joke, and yet managed to forget things we did order. Will never return.
Food were good but service was bad. The waiter didn't wait for us to finish meal before he gave us the bill. The restaurant was not full so didn't understand the reason to get us out of restaurant. They need to do better training for their waiters so won't ruin their name.
I booked my reservation through OpenTable. Upon our arrival they could find the reservation. It was Valentine's Day so my wife was worried we weren't going to get in, but they sat us down after a 5 minute wait, so we were happy.
The server was slow. We sat without drinks for at least 10 minutes. The menu showed pictures of a Sushi Box B, which has beautiful looking fish. When I ordered this option, the server said that was no longer available that I needed to order Sushi E, 10 piece instead. She said it was the same fish. To my disappointment, the fish was based nigiri and looked nothing like what was shown in the picture on the menu.
My wife's meal was mediocre at best. They never refilled our drinks the entire time. The interior is nice and I was excited to experience this restaurant. I will never go back.
We tried this place for the first time, realized it was still Happy Hour - which meant we could try several items without having to order too much food or spend a great amount of money. Service was good - prompt and pleasant, all items had a nice presentation and all tasted very fresh and well prepared. We will definitely come back.

We had not been to O Fine for about 3 months. What a pleasant surprise that they had updated their menu. Really happy that they finally brought back the combo lunch and dinners. Half orders of the roll is perfect since my husband does not eat as much sushi as I do. Now it is the perfect compromise for dinner. The yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno was super fresh and melt in your mouth delicious. We also tried 1/2 rolls of shrimp outside with shrimp tempura inside, and a the poke roll. Much better than last time, the poke was light and not as much soy. Great changes! We will be dining here again on a regular basis.
We have been here many time before and have always found the food to be excellent. To make things better they had a number of happy hour specials on both food and drinks. Only down side was that the wait staff/servers seemed to be a bit on the slow side, not sure if it was cause we were right there at the time they opened or what.
The sushi was very good. Staff was not very attentive. It was very cold in there (kinda like the staff's attitude). Tried to buy the sushi chef a beer (very common occurrence at other sushi bars) and was told I couldn't. Took forever to get staffs attention to order a second drink and then to get the bill. They were too busy cleaning up and getting ready to close even though it was only 8:45pm. They weren't rude or anything, just didn't feel welcome, and even felt like we overstayed our welcome.
We really love the restaurant. This was our second time coming. The food was really good. We all loved what we ordered. The only drawback was the service...they made us feel like they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. We wanted to order deserts but the face expression and body language the waiter made told us she wanted us to leave. So we paid for the meal and left to have desert somewhere else.
Absolutely my favorite sushi place! The rolls are delicious and big! Very good price for the amount of food you get! Great place to try new things because everything is great! Mark was our chef are the sushi bar and was so helpful and is very very good at his job! Highly recommend!
We went on the last day of OC Restaurant Week, after having been there earlier that week for Restaurant Week. The second time around, we noticed that the amount of food and quality weren't the same. Our ramen soup was very salty. The seabass portions for the entree were half the size of the ones served earlier in the week! We also waited a LONG time to get our last entree, weren't offered rice and had to wait a while to get one bowl when we asked for it. Also, one scallop dish was extremely salty, while another one (same dish) wasn't. Maybe they couldn't handle all the people coming in for restaurant week? Except that the restaurant was not completely full on a Saturday night. Several empty tables. They brought our check before bringing out dessert, which we had to remind them about. This was a disappointment, because I had brought my parents here after telling them how good the place was. But, since I know they can do better, I am still giving 3 stars.
