North Italia – Austin
What Insiders Are Saying
Need a crowd-pleaser in North Austin? North has your back.
We had a girls happy hour night and we had a great experience. We had a set up table ready for our large party, our server was really attentive and personable, and it was a great value for the quantity of food we received. It was our first time for a few of us and it was just a great environment to sit and talk, eat some yummy food, and have some drinks. Thanks North!
All our dishes were delicious: Italian farm salad, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken pesto pasta, and short ribs with pasta. Husband’s margarita mixed drink “superb”, I had the red blend wine which was full bodied and smooth. Slight ding on slow start to getting drinks and orders started. Server was friendly and knowledgeable on their menu.
The waiter was friendly, I felt a weird vibe from the ladies who seated us. we had reservations and we arrived 25 minutes before our reservation time. She seated people who had reservations after us before us. I felt a little insulted and wondering why we were the last people waiting to be seated but we finally got seated and the food was delicious.
Wedding Anniversary dinner and I was concerned when they walked us into the patio, but to my surprise, the tent was very warm. Service and food were excellent but lost a lot of the atmosphere by being in a tent in January.
North Italia is always a real treat. Their Italian dishes are so well-prepared and I especially like their specialty, Bolognese pasta, which is so authentic and the home made noodles are perfect. The sauces are great and the portions are plentiful. Service is good and the staff all work together well, even when the place is as busy as it was the night we were there.
It was my first time visiting North Italia and the food and service was amazing. We ordered the white truffle garlic bread, two glasses of wine, and a margherita pizza. Our server recommended a dessert that was exactly what we were looking for! Perfect place for date night or an anniversary.
Awesome as always
Authentic Italian food with a healthy kick. The seasonal veg salad is my favorite - tiny chopped kale, roasted cauliflower, brussel sprouts, butternut squash, millimeter squares of pecorino which is the perfect bite of cheese, tender chicken, pistachios. Friend got the scallops and risotto which was great. Definitely "energetic" at 7:30pm on Wednesday night. Not appropriate for deep conversation, but fun.
Great weekend lunch and dinner place. Very good food and happy environment.
Great restaurant. I feel that if they had somebody in the front as a greeter to direct customers to a designated waiting area this would decrease the congestion in the front and keep the door closed for the seated customers near the doors during the winter months. Other than this, the servers and hostess are wonderful and polite and the food was nice for the dinner rush hours.
Great Food and Great Service
I love it when a chef pays attention. I asked for salmon barely seared and it was perfect.
The zucchini chips were crumbles and too small to pick up. We ordered salads w chicken and the chicken was almost non existent. We told the waiter and he apologized but took absolutely no action and rarely checked on us. In contrast the hostesses were fantastic.
Food excellent, our waiter fabulous. Disappointment was I had a reservation since Dec 2.... my party and I were seated outside on patio. The ambiance was lacking, it was cool. I talked to the manager on duty, although alouf, and semi apologetic... she rudely suggested, I should have noted I wanted to sit inside... how could I have requested inside seating when: a. I have never been to this location, only downtown. B. I was not made aware when making reservation to select a preference. She needs training on how to handle difficult situations, when a reservation is messed up BY the restaurant.
Will never be visiting again. Came to Austin for a conference, and decided to try out a good restaurant for date night. The food was good until it all came back up from 3-9am. Ended up having to skip the conference due to being sick.
Food was great, service was good. Was loud and we were sat adjacent to the door going to the patio and the kitchen during lunch. The door or the foot traffic didn't bother me but the kitchen had some appliance or devise that had a repetitive high pitch squeak that was very very annoying!
We are used to eating at this restaurant in other locations, but here the service was not stellar. No server greeted us after being seated, and we had to flag down another server, who said he was not our server, to get service. When our server did come, he admitted he had been distracted by watching a football game. Our appetizer was also not prepared correctly; a sauce was left out. I believe the kitchen was also distracted by the football game. Our server also chatted a bit too much about himself. It’s always a noisy restaurant with its open kitchen and (in this location) TVs. But this was not up to par. They can do better and almost always do.
Service was super slow. I get that it was busy, but we never got a water refill the entire meal. It also took forever to order, and get our check. At least the food was delicious as always, and the ambiance was nice. My family was visiting Austin for the first time, and our lunch experience didn’t leave a great impression. Not sure I’d risk it again. Too bad, because I love the food.
Great pasta, cocktails, and wine! I had spaghetti and meatballs. Nicely al dente pasta and great-tasting sauce and meatballs. My wife didn't love the basil pizza, but said it was fine. The wine selection was good, and they had some nice original cocktails (or at least I hadn't heard of them before). Definitely going back again soon.
Service was absolutely terrible and the manager never even bothered to call me back when I wrote an email about it. Nice job!
North is always one of my favorites however their limited tasting menu left much to be desired for the desserts. The server was very prompt in noticing that I wasn’t happy and did everything to fix it and despite a little noise from parents who brought their infants out at 10:30 on New Year’s Eve It was a lovely event my I highly recommend this place for lunches with their usual extensive menu
We went for NYE and had a fantastic time. Every time we go to North Italia the service is excellent, the cocktails are delicious and creative, and the food is outstanding. Their pre fixed menu did not disappoint and we will be back soon!
I had a wonderful evening at North for my birthday. It was NYE so they had a special menu, but still had many options. It is a nice spot for a romantic dinner or to grab a few drinks.
We’ve been dining here since they opened. Never disappointed. Consistent food and great service.
Loved the food but hated setting outside on patio in 40 degree weather! We were freezing and food got cold! Did not even give us an option to sit inside!!
Great food, amazing cocktails and fun place for small plates or a meal.
Outstanding food, superior service! We thoroughly enjoyed the eggplant pizza, farmhouse salad, and succulent mussels. We'll be back!
Couldn’t taste alcohol in the Moscow mule. Appetizers - burratta and meatballs were good. Rosemary chicken was too sour and salty and couldn’t taste rosemary. I had a different version of the same before at the restaurant which was yumm. Short rib radiatori was good but have had better before there. I guess they keep on switching chefs which results in not maintaining their standards.
My reservation was incorrectly cancelled.
We were seated at a 2 top table. A couple came in and sat at the table next to us and had 2 dogs that they kept on the floor under their table. One of them spent some time crouched on the floor wrapping the dogs leashes around the table leg.
The dogs were quiet and well behaved but I was surprised to see them in the dining room. Is that allowed? This was in the main dining room, not in the outside room.
Very good food and great service-turn down the music-not necessary
Service and the food were excellent.
Everything is always delicious!
Loved it!! Will definitely be back soon
Way too loud
BEST restaurant in Austin! We go there as often as we can for dinner or just cocktails at the bar. Chef John Carver and his staff are so talented!
choose North Italia for staff Christmas lunch second year in a row. Was a great afternoon, excellent and fresh foods, good open atmosphere.
Impeccable service. Great food and excellent customer service from Preston. Thanks...
The garlic bread was AMAZING, seriously the best thing i’ve ever had to eat.
