North and Navy
Our menu is inspired by tradition and dictated by the quality and availability of ingredients. We play off the similarities between the climates of Eastern Ontario and Northeast Italy, and create our take on classic dishes made with seasonal game, seafood and vegetables. Plus, sometimes we’ll just add whatever we want.
Sun 4:30 pm–9:00 pm (Sunday at NoNa's)
Expensive experience overall.
Nice room, cozy , food good but not spectacular.
Menus a bit pretentious.
Lovely atmosphere. Staff were wonderful. Food was great but no celiac-friendly dessert. (Ice cream doesn’t count).
To die for! The menu is so creative. We ordered the meatballs, zucchini burrata, mushroom pasta, and butternut squash pasta. It was all divine.
In the past, we've had excellent meals at North of Navy. This time, not so much. My $44 scallop entree had 4 scallops on a bed of fennel and a very salty creamy side which was too heavy to pair with scallops (and the sticker shock)!!! The lamb special my friend had (and he never complains) - he didn't even eat. Dessert - dry cake (pet peeve). However, as usual - the pastas were excellent. If I ever go again, I would only order pasta. The service was also excellent. Very disappointed because we usually love this place.
North and Navy never disappoints. The atmosphere, food, and staff are always on point. We always look forward to grabbing seats at the back bar for a date night.
The restaurant plans on at least two sittings so don't plan on having a nice long dinner with spaced out courses if you have an early sitting.
Great food! Amazing service. We will definitely be back!
Once again, a great evening at N&N: we chose the chef's choice (Fed by Nona). At the price, it was a fair bit of food: Caesar salad with bits of pork belly, fried smelts, spaghetti with meatballs & crackling pork belly, variety of beets, and finally a cheesecake for dessert. These were sharing plates and we really enjoyed being able to parse out how much of each course we wanted.
The service was great: everyone seemed to be having a good time and were attentive to the tables. Wine list was very good; a good variety and range of prices. The waiter had a good recommendation for each course. They must have had the soundtrack to "The Big Night" playing because there was a number of Louis Prima charts playing over the speakers... nice touch.
The crackling pork belly should be outlawed :-) You could get addicted to that stuff.
The cheesecake was actually quite good (I'm not a big cheesecake person); there was a hint of lime/lemon and the overall cake was much better than I had anticipated.
It was a bit loud but if we had moved into the area near the kitchen it would have been quieter. This is a minor point.
This is our third or fourth time in the past couple of years and we have not been disappointed yet.
We only planned for wine, appies and dessert. Shared a number of plates between the three of us, everything was fantastic. Very impressed, already planning another evening to experience the full meal options.
Great restaurant. But way to loud ...no point in shouting at your friends over dinner. They need something to dampen the sound
Amazing place as usual. Sat at the chef's table this time to have the full experience. Enjoyed myself even more than the perfect experience I had on my first visit. Friendly staff and amazing food as usual.
Doesn’t get much better than North and Navy. Awesome every time!
My wife and I had a very nice dinner here recently. The service was good, the food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. Our only real gripe is the lighting: It was so dark where we were seated that we couldn't read the menu without holding it next to the candle that was on our table.
We were dining with our one year old granddaughter and all the staff were accommodating and genuinely taken by her. The open kitchen was a great diversion when needed. Superb friendly service and delicious food. Four of us ate family style and enjoyed everything.
Our favourite Ottawa restaurant. Never fails to impress!
My friend and I enjoyed our dinner at North & Navy. The service was excellent and our server was very friendly. She explained the menu in detail with a smile on her face. The staff is very welcoming as well. The food tasted really good. We shared the beet carpaccio for the antipasti. I ordered the spaghetti with clam and the pasta was cooked the right way- al dente. It was delicious. As for my friend, she ordered the squash ravioli which was delectable. We were both satisfied with our choices. I recommend this place and also it’s a perfect spot for a date! You can also have a private dinner upstairs. There’s a private room which caters to around 20 people.
No gluten free bread. Dish of scallops was bland although the scallops were very good. The Cornish hen was ok. Tiramisu was disappointing, tasted like commercial sponge cake. It was very, very noisy. The whole experience was disappointing. The service was good.
Ceasar salad very good
butternut squash half moon raviolis very good
cornish game hen excellent
duck and lentil - lentils excellent, duck cold, sinewy
Very, very expensive
Excellent, but had my name wrong on reservation. My name is Margaret not Kevin
Best bartender in the city.
Loved the ambience of the place - very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious, albeit a little pricey. The service was really great: they were gracious, attentive and were very informative about the food. I also liked the beautiful mismatched antique plates and silverware. A nice restaurant for a special occassion. Overall a great place!
We were in Ottawa for a weekend visiting from Montreal to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The restaurant was highly recommended by a friend chef in Montreal. Fantastic food, service and ambiance. Would definitely recommend this restaurant !!
Everything was wonderful. It was the perfect place to start our visit to Ottawa.
A joy to eat here. The bartender is aces and his suggestions were spot on.
Fabulous butternut squash ravioli! Jesus! And the heirloom salad. Wow!!
We were worried that it would be too noisy. However, we were given a small room that could accommodate the four of us. When the server was not in the room, the doors could be closed making it very quiet.
The food was very interesting and flavorful.
John & Sherrill
Very interesting scene. All of the dishes are a little out there - not for picky eaters :)
Dining at North & Navy is always a delight. The food is amazing, ambiance a perfect balance of cozy & elegant. Predictably wonderful, 5 star.
The food was impeccable. The service was top notch. Had such a wonderful experience.
Vincent au comptoir connaît le service et le vin. La cuisine est toujours excellente. Un choix privilégié pour après le travail, en soirée.
Good but not over the top. Think we expected more and maybe Sunday was not the best night to go. Definitely would go back, just would like to try their full menu
We’ve ordered mushroom spaghetti to start, Venetian liver and Duck with beans & carrots as main course. I’ve never been to Italy or try the local northern Italian food. To my personal opinion, these 3 dishes I’ve ordered were a bit salty than average. But the restaurant’s overall atmosphere was good. And the dessert Tiramisu was great.
I’ve been here several times and it never disappoints. Great food and service, highly recommended.
The best seafood risotto I have ever tasted. Impeccable and friendly service, good wine.
Excellent food and service. Only drawback was the noise level. We were seated next to a table of 10. Could hardly hear ourselves speak.
Very good food and very good service, table wear and dishes worn, noise level far too high
Very noisy! Otherwise enjoyable.
North & Navy is a great spot for a special occasion, or when you just want really great Italian! The service was great and took note of what I put in the reservation request. They have a small room they've nicknamed the "library" that seats up to 6 I think. If you get a kick out of a more private dinning experience I recommend requesting the "library" for any special occasions, it was a friends birthday and it just took the evening up a notch.
Great overall versatile restaurant for dates, business deals or casual get together with friends.
Food had lots of interesting flavours.
