I usually love this place so it was top of mind for bringing a friend who was visiting town. I ordered the same items I typically order and they just weren’t as good/fresh, especially the etouffee. Since this was my friend’s first time dining there, I wanted her to enjoy the meal. I asked for the manager and she refused to replace it unless we paid for another dish. Keep in mind, my food wasn’t good either but I was more focused on my guest who ordered the etouffee. It was just overall a poor experience, with poor food and poor service from the manager. It truly bothers me that this has been a special place for me where I’ve spent thousands of dollars booking this space for my engagement dinner, a large going away party and other special events — and even recommending it to other business colleagues. Something in their management structure and kitchen has changed. I highly don’t recommend this experience and won’t be back.
Second time dining here- again, the food, service, bar drinks wonderful!
Environment is a unique combination of cozy and trendy. We were there for a special occasion. However, we could see it as good for a group, work meeting, or romantic dinner. Wait person was knowledgeable and casually friendly. She made excellent recommendations and we appreciated that she gave us info about portion size. The food was a- maz- ing! We had a dozen raw oysters and a dozen Rockefeller. Both were perfection. Our table enjoyed a mix of steak, salad, and pasta. All were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The menu had a lot of fried items, I think in a New Orleans kind of style. We found plenty of healthier options though, which pleased us.
While our seafood meal was good, especially the scallops!, 2 other tables near us complained to the manager about the fish and they completely returned their meals to the kitchen without re-ordering. This put a damper on an otherwise nice meal.
I have never had a restaurant call me after making a reservation through OpenTable to tell me about a dress code for the restaurant. I thought that was odd and out of the ordinary when I arrived at the restaurant at 5:52p eight minutes early. The restaurant wasn’t crowded for a 6p reservation. They said they could not seat me until that time, and I was slated for 6 o’clock, so I couldn’t be seated eight minutes earlier. We ended up waiting for 15 minutes after a reservation time. Management had a very negative attitude. When we ordered two Fried seafood meals (flounder shrimp scallops) when We received meal, the fish had a bad smell, like a sewage and a out of date smell. I can not believe the kitchen staff would serve a product out of date to customers. Management did not address the situation, which I thought was very unprofessional. The waitress said that she (manager) did not have time to come by and talk about the problem, But went by our table several times after Learning about the issue. Overall I will not be attending this restaurant in the future. The food is very mediocre with an over price and low-Quality.
I travel to norfolk often and have found my new seafood restaurant. Very clean and classy, but i also love the old time fill.
Absolutely fantastic! First time diner. Very nice, cozy atmosphere. The she crab soup is the best I have ever had and I have had many over the years. The oysters Rockefeller was also outstanding. Crab cakes and creme brule were delicious as well. Very pleased and will definitely return!
Arrived 15 minutes and were seated immediately with our reservations. Server (Najir) was most helpful with all the options available for dinner. All drinks and food was served timely and was excellent. Restaurant will be added to our options for dining moving forward.
We were looking for something different for our Xmas party and we found it.
The restaurant is very nice. The drinks were amazing. The food was good and they wore masks for all of our safety . I really appreciated the ambiance. It was so nice. I'd love to go back there again. I had a wonderful evening at The Norfolk Sea Food Company.
Delicious fancy cajun food with a lovely, quiet atmosphere.
My husband and I went here for my birthday dinner and the food was amazing! Everything was fresh and season to perfection. Our waiter was also very nice and offered suggestions. We will definitely be back!
Very laid back and awesome...........................
Very enjoyable. Will visit again.
The food was not that great and overall disappointing based on the last two times we went. This was our anniversary as well.
My gf’s ribeye was definitely not a ribeye; looked like a general sirloin and it was two thin steaks stacked on each other.
The scooby Crab claws did not taste fresh; very fishy.
The burnt roasted potatoes which seemed like they were deep fried.
My crab cake was one crab cake. For the price of it being an entree, I was surprised. This also didn’t taste fresh and was mushy.
Neither myself nor my gf finished our entrees, maybe ate half and then just gave up.
The one thing that was phenomenal was the corn bread. We enjoyed those.
Overall I’m very disappointed. We had been there last year for our anniversary and then earlier this year for valentines, and both time everything was amazing.
Not sure if there was the B team this time, or new chef, or cost cutting, but I won’t be returning again.
Great place for date night. Server was great
Loved the atmosphere, our server, the music, and most importantly the food.
Reservation was for 8:15 & was still waiting at the bar for our seats at 8:45. I asked about & 10 more minutes was the simple answer. We ate our $100 meal at the bar! Bartender & the food were GREAT!
Everything was perfect! Great vibe, was playing some of my favorite songs & the food was amazing.
I can tell you what not to eat/get...the crawfish beignets. It's more like crawfish balls that were a bit overcooked.
Our meals were wonderful and the service outstanding. Will definitely go back next visit to Norfolk!
Great vibe and ambiance- excellent food - oysters Rockefeller are amazing as was the she crab soup !
Creative and delicious cocktails- would definitely return when in the area again !
This was our first time and it was AMAZING. The service was GREAT! The food was DELICIOUS. Just the overall experience was AWESOME. We will be returning for sure.
Food was great, as always! Staff was friendly and the service was on point!
It was my moms birthday. I noted it on the reservation and the hostess called me the day before to ask if I had any special requests , but they didn’t remember once we were actually there. I had to ask the server for the birthday dessert. It kinda took away the moment. I’ve been before and the food is always great.
The food (oysters Rockefeller, collard greens, side of potatoes, lobster, scallops and shrimp dish) was overpriced and everything was very salty! When I tell the waitress about the untouched side of potatoes I was told that the manager needed to come over to remove a $5 charge from $142 bill. When the manager/owner came over, she was unfriendly and made up excuses why she could not quickly remove a five dollar charge and swipe my credit card a second time. She offered me a replacement side which was completely ridiculous because we had already finished our dinner. I requested a dessert instead, to which she responded that I would have to pay the $3.00 difference for the bread pudding. Although she was standing near the front as we exited the restaurant, she did not wish us a goodnight and her demeanor was sullen and childish.
It was a wonderful dinner. Our server was great. We were there for my birthday so it was a special night. Will definitely be back again
Overall the food was good; nothing extraordinary. Being a Saturday night it was busy, food came out in a timely fashion and the service was good.
My boys and I eat here every time I come to visit. The oysters and drinks are amazing!!! Would recommend anyone who likes sea food who doesn't care about price. The meal out weighs the price :)
Had a lovely dinner before a show. Everything was great and so convenient to walk to the Wells Theater. Our go to spot before a show. You won’t be disappointed!
We had a 7 PM RESERVATION IN A LARGELY EMPTY RESTAURANT. After being seated by the hostess, we waited 10 minutes for a waitress to approach our table. We requested water which arrived 10 min later. After approx. 25 min of wasted time we told the waitress it was taking too long…..there was no apology or attempt to serve us. No restaurant can treat people this way and expect to survive, regardless of any staffing issues. This was just rude, and non- customer oriented. Owners be aware….
Everything was great, but the oysters Rockefeller was out of this world.
Delicious food. Loved my drinks. Sat at the bar and the bartender was everything 10/10
We couldn’t find parking and got lost! The hostess was gracious and our dinner was delicious. The oyster selection was outstanding! Our server was charming and service was spot on.
A good experience. The vibe was awesome! The food was amazing. The service could’ve been better and the up and down glance I received as I entered was not appreciated. I honored the dress code but miss lady at the front looked a mess (her attire looked a mess). She should save her judgement on others and look in the mirror before she gives my group any stank looks.
Dined to celebrate our anniversary. It was a great atmosphere, the service was outstanding and the food was delicious.
Great meal…..we had oysters Rockefeller, and the blackened steak.
The food here is fairly generic and mediocre. They seem to sell themselves as a first-rate seafood restaurant while in reality the food and ambiance is better at Red Lobster. The bar failed to properly pull off some of the most basic of things – if you can’t even make a gin and tonic properly you probably shouldn’t have a liquor license. The entire experience was a fail.
To much salt in the frog leg dish. I expressed that to the manager and was told that "we do not take food back, but this time we will, but next time we will not". This was told to me rudely by the manager. The other dishes that my wife and I order were okay, but not worth the price.
Made reservations after a concert, we decided to share a meal. Ordered crab, lobster & shrimp in garlic butter sauce which was salty to me because I don’t eat salt in my food. My friend enjoyed
Nice ambiance, great service.
