My wife initially order their chicken dinner but was told that it takes 35 minutes to prepare. Then she was told that the Alaskan salmon was much quicker so she ordered that. I order soup and 2 different sushi maki. My food came about 10 minutes later. My wife’s food did not come for over 20 mins after mine. I sat there watching my food because of if I had starting eating then my wife would have sat there watching me eat and by the time her food came I would have been done and then sitting there watching her eat. We wanted to eat together . We got no explanation or an offer to take my food back and bring fresh sushi when her meal was ready. I have never experienced this before in my life and I am in my late sixties. I do not think I will ever go back to that Nobu again.

Disappointed Regulars – Service Has Slipped Hard I’ve been coming to Nobu San Diego for years, and sadly, the service just keeps getting worse every time. Most recently, we did the Omakase, which should be a special experience, but the pacing was all over the place. Some courses were stacked oddly, others had painfully long waits in between. We actually waited nearly 30 minutes for the Wagyu course, and when it finally arrived, it was cold to the touch. We had to send it back, which is shocking at this level. To make matters worse, our server didn’t introduce himself, didn’t ask how we were doing, nothing. Just casually walked up with “Do you guys want water?” I honestly couldn’t tell if he was our server or the busser. For a dinner where appetizers alone are $300, a basic greeting should be the bare minimum. Food is still solid, it always is, but at these prices, service matters. And right now, the service is mediocre at best. I genuinely get better hospitality at Chick-fil-A. As much as it pains me to say it, I can’t recommend Nobu anymore.

Very disappointed this time. Have been to Nobu multiple times. Previously had a great experience but this time has gone way downhill. Seated us in a cramped area. Menu appears to have been a special menu for Comicon and was passable but very overpriced for what you get. Quality of food was OK but overly salty. Waiter was OK but guy who brought food to the table seemed irritated rushed and seemed offended when I asked to borrow a pen. Made a nasty face and abruptly turned and quickly walked away. Very slow to check on us and water glass sat empty for a long time. A little too loud, but I guess that is the vibe. Nobu in OC is much better.

Normally love Nobu. I guess after dozens of costs you are bound to have one bad time. Waiter rushed us through the whole meal. Just a bad luck of the draw. Other waiters were fine.

Beautiful space, but in need of a refresh. The atmosphere is lively, but the noise levels make conversation difficult—some soundproofing or design adjustments could help. Service was hit or miss: our server was not very attentive, and multiple times waitstaff reached for our cocktails without asking if we were finished—placing their hands over the rim of the glass, which felt unsanitary. That said, the food and overall experience were still enjoyable, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Food is good, but in general it’s over-priced and over-rated.

Nobu used the be my favourite “high end” restaurant. I was extremely disappointed to see how far it’s fallen. Whilst my boyfriend and I made an effort to dress up, not everyone did. We saw countless people there in runners and baseball caps not even attempting a collared shirt. Although, I shouldn’t blame them per se based on the quality of food vs the price. We had the Chef’s tasting and 3 of the plates that were brought out were completely inedible. As a patron for over 10 years, this was not just “not as good”. The members of the wait staff not only forgot what the plate was multiple times, but the music in the restaurant was so loud we couldn’t hear what they were presenting us. There was also chewed and dried up gum on the on the back on the bench we were sitting on. My boyfriend had his arm around me and ended up touching it. All in all, our bill was $700.00 USD and I’ve had significantly better food and service for a fraction of the price. It saddens me to say as a long standing Patron of Nobu, the quality of the product and service has reached such a low that I will not be returning. On a more positive note, I would like to acknowledge a particular staff member who’s named Brad and was working extremely hard. He was not our server but we watched him go above and beyond for tables all night.
