I always enjoy eating at NM. didn"t think my crab cake up to par.
Neiman Marcus Cafe in Palo Alto Stanford Shopping Mall is a wonderful place to have lunch. My friend and I went to an early movie and I had a reservation for 12:30pm at Neiman's. We arrived around 11:50am and the hostess said hello and of course, we could be seated. She directed our waitperson, Sam, to our table. This restaurant has always been a favorite with consistently excellent food and service that goes above and beyond. The entire staff, regardless of what they do, are exemplary and an asset to this corporation.
My friend and I had a lot of catching up - so we took a very long lunch. We were not rushed.
Convenient location to stop by for lunch while shopping at Stanford shopping mall. Quality dishes in casual setting. Lobster sandwich was great.
Everything was perfect! Service, food, ambience! Love NM Cafe!
My 85 year old mother LOVES N-M Cafe at Stanford so I take her there often for mother-daughter dates. Food and service are always great and it’s not too noisy. It’s a bit pricey but it’s N-M after all and worth it to make my mom happy ❤️
Service was exceptional and loved what you have done with the chocolate molten cake -specifically adding fresh berries, whipped cream and ice cream!! It also looks amazing...
The crab and shrimp
For years this has been a “go to” restaurant for us; however, we have noticed the quality - from overall experience to the kitchen -dipping during the past year. We were just at the NM Cafe again this weekend. Shortly after settling in and beginning our lunch, a couple was seated directly next to us. The wife dropped of her belongings and left for a while and the husband began watching a movie - out loud - on his device. This caused a disturbance to all the other diners in the vicinity of him, and negatively impacted the ambiance of a pleasant lunchtime at NM Cafe. I quietly excused myself from our table and discreetly brought the situation to the attention of the hostess. She immediately pointed out that it was not okay what the man was doing and she would address it with him. I quietly returned to our table and we continued our lunch. Not long after, the hostess approached the man and, indicating our table, told him that we had complained that he was disturbing us and he could not continue watching a movie out loud in the middle of the restaurant. Naturally, he was not happy ... proceeded to give us “dagger eyes” ... unhappily complained about the situation at length to his wife when she returned ... and, ultimately, asked to be moved to another table. There is a “lesson learned” here for the restaurant/hostess .... a more positive way to have handled the situation - for all the guests - would have been to approach the gentleman and kindly tell him that watching a movie out loud on his device is disturbing all the guests in his section of the restaurant and he is requested to turn it off or use earplugs. Her approach of not handling things anonymously - while succeeding in getting the movie turn off - created an atmosphere of discomfort.
Wanted a higher quality meal before taking girls to American Girl store as a special treat. The cafe did not seem particularly busy but unfortunately our waiter seemed overwhelmed and was gone for long periods of time and when we did see him and try to get his attention, he would just say so sorry for the delay. We had to ask another waiter for the puffed pastry bread which he was kind enough to bring. We had to proactively and repeatedly ask our waiter for our drinks and each time he asked us to remind him what they were (ginger ale and spiced tea). After all of that and about 30 min later, he informed my girls they were out of ginger ale.
My friend has a shell fish allergy and specifically requested her food not be cooked in the same location as shellfish. We had no confidence that our waiter actually delivered this message to the kitchen so she did not eat her meal out of precaution. This was her first time at the cafe and unfortunately she is not likely to return. Very disappointed because I had such fond memories of dining at NM cafe with my mom.
Hector is a wonderful server, very welcoming and professional
Excellent service food, I like the updated decor, placements, booths, tables and new menu, service.
Linda was helpful calling to confirm our request for booth.
Six of us have been going to the NM Cafe for a holiday lunch for ten years. Yesterday was this years and the ladies all agreed it is a wonderful annual event. Excellent service, food (and they have removed the calories from the menu), and atmosphere.
Service very slow. Food ok. They forgot to serve popovers until lunch was almost done
Everything was excellent!!
Holiday lunch! Great burger and champagne! Excellent service
We enjoy coming to NM Cafe. They are very accommodating since I came with a big package after shopping. They put us at a booth with very comfortable seats. I love the chicken broth loaded with chicken flavor and the brioche with strawberry butter. What a way to start off the lunch! The bistro salad is delicious with spicy pecans and not too much blue cheese. The pear and Brie sandwich was scrumptious, but I wish we had started eating the sandwich first since it was cold after eating the salad. Our own fault. All in all a great lunch.
I would say the one thing is despite having a reservation and showing up on time they didn’t have a table for four. They put us at a table for two and squeezed us in.
Neiman Marcus is always my "go-to" spot for a special occasion. As usual, the service was very efficient and friendly, the food excellent and a great place for a quiet lunch. We were celebrating my mom's 92nd birthday. It is so nice to find a place that is quiet enough that she can hear the conversation. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch.
With good food & deserts & drinks & best friends, we had a wonderful time always at NM cafe / restaurant
A lovely lunch with our small family during a Holiday shopping trip. We were greeted with a little cup of Bone Broth, (quite salty), and a professional server with an equally warm welcome. Our toddler was accommodated quickly with fresh fruit which he loved. I enjoyed an Aperol Spritzer and an excellent classic chicken salad with a fun orange Mousse, fruit, and delightful popovers, (Yorkshire Pudding), for the table.
No overbearing music or commotion on this 3rd floor location. A nice space to park the stroller also close to restrooms away, but in sight of tables while the little guy sat in a highchair. Attentive service throughout the meal. Food selection and quality excellent. No heavy and over fussy choices, perfectly presented plates.
I made the reservation at Open Table so that I could request that a dessert for my husband's birthday be brought "right after the meal" - but unfortunately, the meal came and ended and the waiter just handed us the bill. All I had requested for his birthday lunch was that a dessert be brought over (with a candle of course). Upon leaving the restaurant, I mentioned this to the lady at the front desk who acted as though she couldn't care less! She said, "Well, I'm just filling in..........." and said it in an unfriendly manner. Disappointed to say the least since we love to have lunch there---
Great ambiance, very quiet and great place to have a conversation with my friend. Friendly staff and great service. Made us feel welcome at our arrival. Yummy food and very accommodating to my dietary needs. Diverse menu
Great staff! Starting with complementary consommé and popovers is a really lovely touch. Friendly, attentive, helpful team -- it always felt like someone was ready to help us, but it never felt like anyone was hovering.
I have been coming to NM Cafe for many years and never disappointed. The food has always been good, and with the new chef, it is even better. My favorite dish has always been the salmon. It used to be smaller, and never over-cooked. BUT, the most recent few times that I have eaten there, I’ve commented on how the salmon is now FABULOUS. Not only was it a more generous piece, but it was cooked/sautéd the way I like it - which is, crispy on the outside. In other words, P-E-R-F-E-C-T, inside and out. I also appreciate that the accompaniment to the salmon changes so I can enjoy the same fish with a variety of sides.
Aside from the the tasty food, the service is impeccable. I wish I can remember all their names - just know that all your regular staff at the restaurant, including the lady who checks us in, all provide excellent service with a cheerful smile.
And, finally, of course is the restaurant itself. The tables are rather close together so it has a cozy and intimate feel, and, in spite of that, I can still carry a conversation in a soft voice.
My thanks to the entire restaurant staff. Sally H.
Excellent, tasty, classic American food, always and consistently exceeds expectations - it is far superior to the ladies lunch place that you might expect - if you go once, you will go again -
Crab Louie was too expensive for what we got...
Salad was small, different from before.
The service was great. The food was very good. Booking was very easy.
Un excelente servicio, siempre regresamos cuando estamos en Palo Alto.
I keep coming back for the fresh popovers. Service great.
Great place for a lunch meeting and for health conscious eaters, but have to skip the popover.
Celebrating a friend’s retirement
Lovely service with those great popovers and piping hot consommé to begin. The salmon dish was exceptional, the shrimp Cobb excellent and the Dungeness crab melt also delicious. Even a finishing cappuccino was tip-top.
Over the years, Neiman Cafe is one of my favorite places to have lunch when shopping at Stanford with a girl friend. Attentive service and nice ambience. A few months ago, I noticed that the food got even better and the portions a bit more generous. Indeed, they changed chef about four months ago. Anyway, I always have good experience there. I’ve even taken my shopping-phobic hubby there once for lunch, and he liked it as well. And, yes he had wine!
Took a new employee there for lunch and was very impressed with the excellent and consistent service. Plus the food is always outstanding. One of my favorite places to eat!
NM Cafe in palo alto is a good place to bring friends for a good meal and good conversation. The quality and quantity are both very good and tasty. A little bit on the pricey side, but I keep on going back.
While the food here is quite good, the service for lunch on the weekend is glacially slow. 15 minutes before anyone asks you to even order. Another 5 minutes before the complimentary popover appears. You had better eat that, because it’s another 15 minutes before your food arrives. And you will for sure have to explicitly flag down your waiter to get the check. I have been twice on the weekend and both times the experience was the same. They are quite clearly understaffed as the waiters are doing their best, but faced with a slow kitchen and way too many tables to cover, they don’t stand a chance. At least you make friends with the neighboring tables as you commiserate about the slow service, but in any event we will not be going back, or at least never when they’re busy.
Great place for lunch . Very quiet which is refreshing. Good food and good variety of dishes. Was happy and catered to gluten free and vegetarians. Would recommend
Excellent service. Delicious lunch
