Nirvana Grille is a Sustainable California Restaurant located in the heart of Downtown Laguna Beach, between Main Beach & the Historic Festival of Arts by local Laguna Beach Chef & Owner Lindsay Smith-Rosales.

Our philosophy begins at the local level working closely with area growers and the highest quality purveyors to ensure that our predominately organic produce, meat, wild fish & free-range chicken are provided. We are able to meet the needs of even the most discerning guests with dietary concerns including Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Paleo & Keto Diets.

The place was understaffed and the young crew had a hard time accommodating guests. They forgot to take our order for entree and forgot to bring my second glass of wine. They did comp me the 2nd glass but it still showed up on the bill and had to be corrected

We were extremely excited to try this place out. We were not impressed at all. First off they served us our drinks pretty sloppy looking no garnishes martini had no olives even our second round of drinks asked for no Cheyenne and messed up and out Cheyenne on both of our drinks! Then came appetizers they took forever and we were missing one and had to tell them come to find out they ran out or it would take too long to make it. They gave us two different stories so we had to order something different. Our main course came and our food was cold and lacking flavor. My petite filet mignon was gross, fatty and tough. By time they came back to check on us we already began to eat our cold food when they offered to re cook it.... thanks but we were so turned off at this point. They literally messed up everything the entire night from our drinks to our appetizers to our dinner. I was extremely disappointed. Even if our food would have been warm and IF we had good service the food STILL lacked flavor and was totally not worth it. To think we paid $300 for this for the 3 of us. Only good meal was the garlic bread this was delicious if that was my only meal for the night I would have been happy. I can deal with bad service or running out of a food item if the food quality and flavor made up for it but it didn’t...

The menu has a variety of delicious options and everything we ordered was perfectly prepared and delicious. It was fabulous because we were not in a rush. They are operating on a smaller staff so things take a little longer, but the wonderful food was worth the wait! Have a snack before going so that you can relax and enjoy the slower pace and an excellent dinner.

Absolutely wonderful staff and service. Plus, the food was delicious. Get the muscles and frites, Seafood de Mare and the espresso ice cream and you will not regret it. 5 stars all around.

Not impressed with Nirvana. Service was very poor; waited almost 30 minutes before getting drinks. Wait staff barely speak English. Wine was over priced and food was subpar. Skip this place.

Being seared was an ordeal. The hostess tried to seat us next to the bussing station, even though we had a reservation, and there were many other open tables. When we asked to sit somewhere else, we were initially told no. Only after we insisted were we seated at a table in a better spot. We watched this process repeat with other diners. They seemed to be trying to seat at the worst table first, and it was very rude. We nearly left. The server was fine, and the food was excellent. I hope they change their attitude toward diners when seating.

The food was excellent and very big portions. I highly recommend the mushroom ravioli appetizer, I also liked my salmon.
Covid is in full swing in so cal, and I really think this restaurant did a great job of making all of us stay safe. They opened exterior windows and doors so even walking through the inside felt safe, and all the dining was outside in a shaded courtyard. The bathroom door was propped open, and all the employees wore masks. From all I could see, they really did do all they could to prevent COVID spread.

Had dinner on the upper patio. The food was exquisite. We had the herb salmon and the blackened salmon with shrimp and scallops. Both were generous portions. We also had the Chile artichoke appetizer. You don't get a lot of bread, so order the homemade garlic toast. Cap it off with molten chocolate cake. It is so worth it!

The restaurant had too many tables preventing inadequate social distancing. I felt very anxious during my entire dinner. The food and service were both very good but I would not return here unless they remove some tables and feels safer.

A solid 3-stars.

We were so excited to try Nirvana; we'd heard so many great things about them. But, it was disappointing and (this is the important part) -- not at all like they advertise or "say who they are." The news article and publicity from the chef is all about how they get the freshest food, etc. etc. etc. Not true, at least in our experience for dinner.

Mussels -- NOT fresh! We are huge seafood fans, and we know fresh mussels. These were definitely not spoiled, and they weren't quite "borderline" yet (which would be completely unacceptable to serve!), but they were ALMOST there. Fishy tasting. Now, the sauce was delicious, actually one of the best we've had! But... not enough (nor should it!) to "cover up" the fishy taste of the mussels. Very disappointing. If they say how fresh everything is, how can they serve these? If they're not prime freshness (as promised), then don't serve them! Take them off the menu! I appreciate when a restaurant tells me "Oh, we are out" because that means they have good inventory of fresh food...

Cheese bread -- Really good! Some of the best. But oh, we ordered the garlic bread! And it took a while to come out (no bread is normally served with the mussels and we wanted it to enjoy with the mussels). So we ate it. But not very good to bring the wrong order.

Red wine -- was at "room temperature" -- but oh, this is during the heat wave... so it was way too hot. We are red wine aficionados and yes, it shouldn't be "chilled" but there is a temperature range it should be in...

Short ribs -- The meat is very very good quality. Served on a bed of polenta. Polenta is awesome too. But overall, it was bland. This type of meat deserves to be celebrated! (Not over-powered by too much stuff, mind you...) It is a very very simple dish. I'd say they could kick it up a notch and do something "special" with it.

out of room... Dessert expensive but boring. Server staring for bigger tip during payment.

Unfortunately,, there were so many tables pack together that it was very uncomfortable and not socially safe. When I asked for the check, the waiter did not bring one. Instead, he told us what we ordered and gave a total. I don’t know if I was overcharged or what taxes were associated with my bill. Won’t go back.

I ate at Nirvana grille several years ago and the food was wonderful with a very nice plant-based menu. There was no Vegan options this time, so I ordered a salad with beets and pears. The beets and pears were canned. Horrible tasting. My dress hung in water that was on the patio. Not a good experience at all. Disappointing.

We requested a roof table but got a ground level outside BUT heavy traffic noise. Kill the evening.
Food is good service is slow. We waiting 30 - 40 minutes for our dinners. We arrive at 7:15 & did not leave until 9:-30. Also this is the only restaurant to charge 4% COVID tax . & I have been to many restaurants. Will not go back until they fix these issues.

Wonderful service, very attentive, friendly. Creative and original menu. Sole Proprietorship so attention to menu and details in plating. One of top two meals this entire vacation was the vegetable platter. Garlic bread was excellent and husband stated Rock Fish was best prepared seafood whole trip, along with the broccoli and very lightly seasoned zucchini. Apple crumb cake appeared to be house made and was delicious, mud pie appeared to be sourced externally and was very generic although tasty.

On a busy street and with state regulations all dining has to be outdoors so can’t blame them for that but did make for a loud experience.

Would definitely recommend although maybe request a table as far away from street as possible.

I personally find it insulting to add 4% to your bill for Covid 19 cleaning. I would think that the restaurant would be grateful to have patrons during Covid. I also do not see why this charge is based on the price of your total bill? They have no menus to clean and the dishes and silverware have to be washed regardless of a Pandemic. They did nothing more than wipe a table . Does it cost more to clean if your bill is higher ? Just another way to profit at the expense of the consumer . They should be ashamed of themselves.
