Nikai Sushi - Cheeca Lodge & Spa
In addition to sushi plates, Nikai offers over 35 types of hot and cold sakes to complement your meal. Truly, Nikai is a gem among Florida Keys restaurants
Worst service I have ever had
Slow service, low quality sushi and sashimi. Doesn’t worth the money...
50th wedding anniversary
High quality fresh fish .variety of well prepared rolls, sushi rice ok, wait staff not knowledgeable and sloppy
We were very, very impressed with this restaurant! When you eat at a hotel restaurant, you expect to be a little overcharged… But we felt that the overall experience was definitely worth the money! Our server was so sweet & very on top of our needs. The sushi OMG so great!! The edamame was hands down the best we’ve ever had. I loved the roll I chose. It was delicious, the fish was extremely fresh, but most of all I love the size of the roll. Each bite was perfect, not too big, and the rice was the exact right amount. My husband loved the sashimi.
View of the water was excellent. So were sushi rolls, cocktails and ramen. We ate early, so there was no problem with service, but there was no feeling that was ever likely to be a problem. It was difficult to understand some of the other reviews I read regarding food, service and setting. Miso soup was below average, but everything else was outstanding. Interesting and well executed food and drinks. Would highly recommend and hope to revisit this during this stay in Islamorada
Great view/location but the sushi is mediocre at best. Salmon was fishy which now almost never happens. Rice is not remotely right for sushi. I did not eat other food which may be decent so I cannot comment. Service was friendly.
The menu seemed more limited than usual. We’ve been many times before and it seems like they cut a lot of items after the re-opening.
Disappointing. The food was subpar and that's excluding the fact that 1 of my 2 sushi rolls I ordered never even made it to the table. The waitress was wonderful (not her fault at all) but the food was subpar at best and I left hungry. Dinner fail.
Great food and atmosphere!
The food is very good. definitely a must if you are in the keys \.
Very convenient. Delicious dinner
Terrible service. Not authentic sushi. Terrible value for the price.
First time here to meet up with old friends that used to come all the time so they where very excited to show me the restaurant there were only two other tables and we wanted to sit outside seeing that they do have heaters outside just to get the wind chill out
Well we were told they just ran out of gas to the heaters (all 10?)
We went to order some hot sake and were told they only have the one of of three available at the price of $45 we just ordered wine instead and a scallop shooter for three
That was one of the reason we came in for
They came out and my friends where already worried they didn’t look they they have all the others time they’ve order before they all had different measurements in each shot glass
It was very salty as if they only used soy sauce instead of the jalapeño, truffle ponzu
We ended up just having that a little disappointment and left
We did speak to the server and another person and let them know our concerns/ question the new Version and both gave us two different resons
The sushi at Nikai is non-traditional but delicious. The rolls each seem to have an interesting twist. The flavors work well together. The seaweed salads are huge; we could have shared one. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed talking with the chefs, who were friendly and helpful.
Great food and service not to mention the view! Creative sushi as well.
We love this sushi bar every time I’m in the Keys I visit this wonderful restaurant. The scallop shooters are a must! ❤️
It’s the high season and clearly they are understaffed. Our last order of roll took almost an hour. Pre storm, this was my favorite place for sushi around. I’ll give it another chance after the busy season slows down.
We sat inside at the sushi bar and were served personally by Junior the Sushi Chef. Food was great and service was fantastic. Junior encouraged us to try a few new items that were delicious. Would highly recommend.
Converted room - not a real restaurant - outside not open due to wind and no one decided to notify us until we got there that they didn’t have any indoor space saved for an advanced reservation - yes and this was after having a reservation days in advance - would not return - very rude
Wonderful evening. Best sushi, service and fried ice cream ever!
My husband and I have eaten here several times in the past and it was great. We didn’t end up even staying for dinner as the staff was rude and dismissive. They were overwhelmed (they had 12 other customers) and told us we would have to bear with them and they would get to us once they served the 10-top. Nope. We left before ordering.
Sorry to say that our experience at this restaurant was not a good one. We may have caught it on an off night....hoping that is the case since it is a local restaurant at a top notch resort. The ambiance was lacking even though we were sitting on the outdoor patio on a beautiful evening; There was no background music; The table had no candles or other ornaments to give it some sort of appeal; There were no lights so we all had to take out our cell phones to read the menu; Service was slow even though there was only one other table in the entire restaurant when we arrived; they did not have the 22 oz beer that one of our guests ordered so they had to give him 2 beers; they were out of Sake because the delivery was not made that week; The specialty drink that I ordered tasted like a kid's drink and then I realized that it was supposed to have Sake in it (which they were out of) so that must have been the reason and it was $14; the specialty appetizer of avocado and tuna consisted of 1/2 an avacado with a table spoon of diced tuna - hardly any to even taste - and was served on a bed of white rice; The sushi rolls were small and had no flavor and were covered with panko crumbles on top (a lot of them); The bill was $220 (including tip) at the end of the night and we all walked away hungry! Not a place I would go back to unless something seriously changed.
Where r all the people? It’s a nice place, food was fine. Too bad more guests at the hotel don’t frequent the dining in the hotel.
food and service were below expectations
nice outdoor dining area
Our food was out of this world and the service was great! We LOVED the view from our outside table, it was the perfect spot to start our vacation.
Our waitress, Jaymie, was outstanding as was the food.
We sat outside on the balcony and were dressed very causal from afternoon on the beach. There are very few tables for indoor seating, plus seating at the bar, but several outdoor tables. Service was very good, bartender attentive and helpful, food was good and desserts really terrific. For the price, I expected the food to be tastier and presentation to be better. Resort prices to be expected; meal was good and pleasant experience, but for these prices maybe a little creativity and attention to the details would quantify the value.
Overpriced and average sushi. Service was OK
We were greatly disappointed in Nikai. We had dinner at Pierre’s the night before and the lady taking care of us there told us that the head chef from Kaiyo had gone to Nikai and we HAD to go because it was Now the best sushi in Islamorada.
So, instead of returning to Kaiyo( we had had dinner there 3 nights prior) we went to Nikai.
The resort is very pretty although full of young children...the very young, very loud and unaware parent type. I love kids, just not some:).
Anyway, upon entry to Nikai, I realized we made a huge mistake. It was basically a dirty bar area with an outside tiled area. Nothing special. We arrived at 9 and still hadn’t been served EVEN A DRINK by 10pm. The table next to us complained so bitterly they had their meal comped. We were so hungry that we waited...finishing a bottle of wine before anything arrived. Waitress forgot our edamame twice.
The sushi was yummy but, good grief, not worth the wait or unattractive atmosphere.
Absolutely terrible experience. Totally ruined a birthday and anniversary celebration while on vacation. Service, food, etc. was all bad! Worst of all the staff argued with us after we brought several things to their attention. Will never step foot on Cheeca property again!
I don’t leave negative reviews very often, but when the sushi is chewy and flavorless coupled with extremely slow service I feel compelled. The view is fantastic, but if you want decent sushi drive 2.1 miles down the road to Publix for batter experience and save $175 for two.
Vacation with daughter to go diving and celebrate the end of a successful freshman year in college.
One of the best views in The Keys. Nikai is on the second floor of resort and we had a table on the balcony overlooking the water. Very nice for our anniversary dinner. Our server was very friendly and did a great job. A little expensive for sushi, but you have to expect that for the location and view.
The food and staff was excellent. The chef was very accommodating the special orders. A bit pricey but on vacation it was a great place to eat
Best sushi ever!! Love the Keys flavor incorporated in sushi!
Good food and nice atmosphere and friendly service. Unique Sushi tolls
Amazing restaurant. The scallop shooters were so delicious. Everything we ate extraordinary! Great place
A nice twist on the original. Not out of this world, but good nonetheless. Our service was slow. They comp'ed us desserts and a drink.
No one seemed to know what was going on here (we apparently asked our clueless waiter too many questions, so they gave us a more experienced one instead - who turned out to also be the bartender), and the service was so slow that we just wanted to leave. The menu looked great but they failed to execute/follow through with a good meal. Overpriced and sadly, very disappointing since we had high hopes. We ordered a pizza after we left.
