Tried it randomly and it was fantastic. Our waiter Alex was excellent.
Downstairs is crammed and cold. Specials are expensive. Small place food is “so-so”
We waited in an overcrowded restaurant that had clearly taken too many reservations. Everyone was complaining and had been waiting over an hour to be seated. The hostess was extremely rude. Our reservations were for 9 pm , and had been confirmed the night before. I requested the bar, and was told that would be fine. The hostess said I would have to jump into a seat if one became available. Jump into a seat? What happened to my reservations ? We drove an hour to go to this restaurant , and it became very clear that we wouldn’t be seated for at least another hour... we left. Extremely disappointed.
Sat at the bar on Valentines Day! Great food and great service...
Went on Valentine’s Day. Booked a dinner reservation nearly a month in advance. Showed up early and wasn’t seated until almost an hour after our reservation time- there were at least 6 other parties waiting outside in the cold waiting to be seated as well. We had to wait around because we never would have found a seat anywhere else that late. Ended up being seated in a tiny corner in the basement. The food was great, but what’s the point of taking a reservation if you can’t honor it? Wouldn’t risk another special occasion dining here.
We came for Valentines day and though it was extremely busy, the staff was still in high spirits and energetic and so sweet! Please keep it up. Will be regulars after tonight :)
Had a 7:00pm reservation and was not sat down until 8:30pm with no apology by host/waiter or offering of free drink / meal.
Nice little place, the food was good and not overpriced, will go back. My meatball was not to my liking but most aren’t as I can make much tastier ones myself. It tasted as if it had taken on the flavor of the pot it was cooked in.
Great fresh food - loved the meatball!
The food and wait service were good enough quality for what our party paid and what we were expecting. The noise level in the restaurant was very high, which is to be expected for a Saturday night at a restaurant in Boston's North End. What was easily the most frustrating part of the entire experience, however, was the wait time.
I made a 7:45 pm reservation for a party of five and confirmed the reservation earlier in the day. Our party arrived around 7:40 pm and were told there would be about a 10 minute wait. Fair enough, that's how this stuff goes sometimes. They said we could wait outside or in the bar area. While the rest of my party waited outside, I tried to find a place at the bar area for us but was unable to because of 1) how packed the bar area was and 2) how the bar area bled right into the actual restaurant. The bar area was 3-4 people deep, all presumably waiting to be seated for what were their delayed reservations.
I went outside to be with the rest of my party and decided to check in with the hostess after 10 minutes since that was the time guidance she provided; I was told it would be another 5-10 minutes. This proceeded to happen FOR AN HOUR. About 40 minutes after our 7:40 pm arrival time, we weaseled our way inside and found a spot close enough to the bar so we didn't have to wait in 20 degree weather. We were seated approximately an hour after our reservation time, and they comped us two appetizers.
TL;DR - Waited for over an hour after we had confirmed our reservation the day of. Comped two appetizers.
I'm a patient guy and totally understand the restaurant industry is challenging and hectic. This was complete garbage, though. The value of the two comped apps wasn't even close to the value of any group of five human beings' time. As one man, I know my review won't give Nico nearly the retribution it deserves for putting all of their customers through this experience Saturday night. I will, however, never go back.
I would recommend this place, except we waited for an hour despite having a reservation. I think something went wrong, but it felt like a "what was the point of a reservation even" situation. They did their best, the food was good, and they were clearly having a tough night (even gave those of us who were in the same boat free apps - and there were MANY parties that waited a hour), but standing outside in 28 degrees for a hour certainly didn't make it...fun.
food excellent but weren't seated for our 715 reservation until 815. granted we were 10min late but still quite a wait.
Not good. Requested a Bloody Mary but was told the bar did not have Vodka? Restaurant was overbooked so even though we made a reservation it was not honored and we waited an hour for a mediocre table.. Food was just average. With dessert, I asked for a cup of coffee but was told the machine was not working for a week or so? Will not be returning.
Very loud, but expected that on a Saturday night. Food was excellent as usual.
Unfortunately, we were never sat for dinner. This is one of our favorite restaurants but waited 30 minutes for our reservation and left. Amazing food but this is the second time we’ve had this happen. Hopefully they improve their reservation practice!
Do not book Nico through Opentable for a group larger than 6 people, we waiting for 45 min to be seated, it was absolutely RIDICULOUS.
We had a part of 8 on a Saturday evening for an early dinner (5:00 reservation). We were seated immediately and had excellent service. Every single person in our group raved about the food. 5 people had the shellfish special, 1 person had the spaghetti and meatball, 1 chicken parm and 1 Chilean sea bass. Since we had the meatball appetizer, I can tell you it was delicious and enough to share for up to 4 people per meatball. The sea bass was mouthwatering ... best I've ever had. I also tasted the scallops and shrimp from the seafood special. Not a single disappointed person in our group. The only thing to be aware of is that they do not have a full bar and one person in our group wanted a vodka drink. Great wine list, though. By the time we left about 7:00PM the bar was packed and people were waiting for tables. Definitely will come back to Nico.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Nico from the minute we arrived and greeted by Katie, to our departure! We had the table for 2 in front of the window. Our server was extremely attentive and he recommended our appetizer and entrees, which were all delicious! We loved how this restaurant had a very family orientated feeling. Everyone working there seemed happy to be there! We will return!
Took friends to Nico for their first time last Friday: they LOVED it! Outstanding service: prompt, efficient, & charming with no sense of being rushed. We shared a wonderful appetizer, enjoyed a few glasses of wine, & had an amazing dinner experience. 2 Chioppinos, a lobster ravioli, & 1 chicken marsala. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!! Tremendous evening! - Can't wait to go back!
Ordered some classics, but nothing to write home about. Shrimp appetizer was fantastic, lobster ravioli was pretty good, and the veal parmesan gets a B-. Pretty mushy. Great service. Wonderful atmosphere in a pretty intimate setting. But it was not that "wow" experience we were expecting.
The food was outstanding, served nice and hot. The wait staff was top notch and the food selections were plentiful.
Nico was wonderful! Located in Boston’s North End directly across from fire station. Home made pasta and a giant meatball were delicious!!! The chicken was done to perfection as well!!!
Only thing that was a little odd is they don’t offer coffee- only expresso.
The best meatball we have ever eaten. The chicken parmigiana was awesome as well. Highly recommend this place..everyone needs to try the meatball appetizer..
I love NICO, it is always delicious and the staff work so hard to make sure that you have a wonderful experience. The lobster ravioli and mushroom ravioli are both so good!
We had a great dinner before the Bruins game the other evening. Service was fantastic. A Shout out to James our waiter. The food was delicious. I had the cioppino with red sauce. It came with a half of lobster - yum. Others had the clams & linguini and the eggplant parm...all big hits. The fresh pasta is wonderful.
Another amazing North End restaurant, Nico does not disappoint. Small and lively Italian spot that serves up an amazing Risotto and Scallop dish. My two girlfriends and I had a wonderful time here. We had some great Chianti along with amazing burrata over arugula, tomato, and artichoke salad. They even gave us the tiramisu on the house because it had fallen in the box and was not as well presented as usual. Definitely recommend.
Really nice vibe. Pasta dish portions are generous, especially the spaghetti and meatball. Consider sharing.
The girl working at the front door to seat people is the rudest human I have ever dealt with. She is extremely unprofessional and unbelievably rude to customers. She has an attitude problem and brings down the value of the restaurant and she should be be fired. She ruined the experience. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
As always… Customer service, food and atmosphere was fabulous James is the best!!
The waiter didn’t speak English well enough to understand stand our orders. My 11 year old son just wanted just chicken from chicken parmigiana and pasta on the side. When I checked with the waiter about what kind of pasta he would like. The waiter said he already put my sons order in. Then he said ohh you want pasta too ? So he brought the chicken and pasta out chicken on one plate and the smallest side of pasta. The the bill comes it was $20.00 for his chicken and $8.00 for his pasta I thought that was completely over price. Hope this helps.
Wonderful time with family from out of town. Food was incredible, our waiter James was excellent!
Went on one of the coldest nights they have ever had in Boston. Unfortunately they did not have a double door to enter the restaurant so every time someone entered there was a huge draft. We started off sitting at a table next to a window but the cold seeped right through. Ended up at the bar under one of the heating vents which was the best choice for the night. The bartender that served us was very cordially and we carried on a conversation with her. Funny thing about the restaurant was that they had four screens behind the bar. One was tuned to a game and the others had The Big Night playing. I guess they play that continuously every night. I remember the first time I saw this movie and loved it. No sound though so for many that had not seen the movie had no idea what was going on. So that's the environment. The food was incredible. As authentic as it comes as both my wife and I raved about both our meals. Prices were very reasonable, especially for Boston. Will try it again this summer where I am sure we can enjoy a table next to a window.
Haven’t been here in a while but meal was still very good. It’s always been one of my favorite spots but slight let down tonight. I’d go back without hesitation and see if just the freezing weather decreased the enthusiasm in the kitchen???
Seating was a bit cramped but we knew that going in. Other than that everything else either met or exceeded our expectations. This won’t be our last meal at Nico’s
This is our go to when in Boston. The people are great and the food is outstanding!
Gnocchi and meatballs are the best ever!!!
Great food but they over extend themselves. We had an 8 o’clock reservation but didn’t get our table until 9 o’clock...
Food was fantastic (As always). However our reservation was for 7:00pm; we weren’t sat until 7:45pm. I totally understand places can be busy, and always expect a 15min wait post reservation time. But 45min? What’s the point of making a reservation.
Enjoyed the evening. Good food. Interesting preparations. More contintental than Italian.
Server did not know the wine list. Was not helpful with the menu - clearly was not italuan
