Every year I take my nieces to lunch at Nico’s as part of their Christmas experience besides the gifts! It gives us a chance to get together and check in with each other! We call it Girls day out! My 5 year old great niece now comes as she says she’s a girl!! LOL. Nico’s is our favorite! I go other times of the year as it’s one of my favorites since it opened! Yum!
Meh. Appetizers (Arancini, eggplant, and shellfish stew) were excellent. The entrees were mostly ok. My steak was over cooked. We were seated in the basement with very poor lighting. Service was good. Overall hit and miss, and you can do much better in the neighborhood.
Reservations are a must at this authentic Italian restaurant in Boston's North End. After walking by several restaurants with long waiting lines we were extremely happy to have a reservation at Nico and to be seated right away. We were attending a show and wanted a relaxing meal, but not too drawn out and our needs were met. The staff is very efficient as as soon as used utensils are removed by one person they are replaced by a second person. Everything came fairly quickly, but not too quick as to feel rushed. We were very happy with everything from the wine to the appetizers, entries, and deserts. The only negatives were that it is a small place and the tables are extremely close. This was offset by the great food and service. We will definitely go back.
Reservation wait time too long.
Food & drink excellent
Food was excellent and waiter was very attentive. Will definitely go back. Only thing missing was they don’t serve coffee or tea do we went to Victoria’s which was fine.
One of the best, if not THE best, meal I’ve ever had. The only thing better than the food was the service (thank you Alex for everything and for speaking to my wife in Italian). The only thing better than the service was the food.
This is a nice restaurant on Hanover St. Fast service, maybe too fast! We got our salads in 2-3 minutes and after the salads were eaten, the meals were out literally 1 minute later. We are out of the restaurant 35 minutes after walking through the door. The food was very good. They use real Parmigiano Reggiano.
We arrived for dinner and were seated in the basement that was dirty and very dark. I had requested a special seat for my birthday and obviously they did not care. We ended up leaving and going to the restaurant next door.
Food was good. Service fast. Little tight seating. Only a unisex restroom. That's a show stopper. Do not recommend.
Soooo yummy :) we will be back! The spaghetti and meatball was great. My fiancé had the gnocchi it was amazing too!
Sat in the basement, food was average at best, and Service was rude and rushed.
Great food and service!
Nico's is a pretty small place but the service was outstanding and the food was great! We went before a concert at the Garden and it was convenient. Prices are very reasonable and they have a decent wine list.
Nicos food & service was tremendous as always! Alex was our server and a great guy!
Very good food. Helpful wine recommendation. High energy.
I found that the the chicken Alfredo was blah. Had no flavor to it. We had reservations and we saw two couples come in after us who got seated before us and they didn't have a reservation. We heard the hostess say to one couple that they were going to be seated next. The hostess walked by and I asked her how much longer and she asked us to give her a second. She goes downstairs and then goes to that couple who came after us and said something to them and then that couple looked at us after they were done talking. I don't know if the waitress forgot about us or what, but I think next time I will try one of the other Italian restaurants in the north end.
Great food at very reasonable prices.
Rigatoni special and mushroom ravioli were outstanding. I asked for a little extra heat in my rigatoni and the chef delivered.
Our first time in Boston and we certainly had our choice of great Italian spots in the North End to choose from... well this has to be the gem of the North End. Drinks were wonderful, service was personable and perfectly timed, atmosphere was lovely and lively, and our food was superb. Best spaghetti and meatball I’ve ever had. We will be back the next tine we are in town! And we will recommend Nico to everyone who heads to Boston. 👍
Great food. Great service. It's what keeps me coming back time and time again.
Excellent food and great service
The food was delicious! The restaurant is small and cozy. I went with a group of friends and we didn’t expect it to be so quiet, but the food and ambiance was otherwise great!
Waiter couldn’t make wine recommendations, told us what we could and could not order. Eggplant was undercooked but waiter never came back to see how our food was, the food runner was the only one to the table until the bill was delivered. We sat in the basement which was cramped, we have eaten here before and loved it but won’t be going back.
Great food. Speedy to get you in and out. A but pricey but the food was worth it. Dim lighting as well made it a bit hard to see but we chalked it up to vying for a relaxed atmosphere.
My go to place in the North End. Again, food was great. Only downer was no coffee and was told expresso machicne was broken.
Nico was amazing! The food was outstanding and our waiter Alex was a great guy! Probably some of the best service I’ve ever had. I would highly recommend this place.
Amazing Italian flavor and service. The taste and atmosphere of Italy. You will never find a better meal of service. Everything is so well coordinate. Food always comes out hot and fresh. Great atmosphere for fun times and conversation. A must any time you are in Boston.
Met My daughter for dinner. Food was outstanding and service was excellent. We started with a tomato and mozzarella appetizer. There was something special about the mozzarella that was so good. My main dish was rigatoni with sausage and that was delicious. Came out at a perfect temperature. My daughter had spaghetti and meatball and absolutely loved it. The flavors were superior. The restaurant was a little bit noisy but we certainly were able to converse.
Must try the fettuccine carbonata. Simply from out of this world.
Great authentic Italian cuisine. A cosy refuge on at bitter cold night in the North End.
We had a family meal for 7. Consequently, we same led several dishes, sauces and appetizers. All of the food was excellent. The fried calamari was among the best I have found in the US. Both chicken and veal dishes were exceptionsl. This is an ezcellent restaurant.
No, they will not seat you until everyone in your party is there. Since it was raining out there really isn't any place to wait. The food is pretty good, the wine list is extensive, and service was excellent. Downstairs (basement) seating area smelled a bit musty.
The service in the atmosphere and the staff will great and the food was exceptional
We have been to Nico several times. However this last time was the most disappointing. First, I had left a message that this was my wife's birthday. There was no acknowledgement at all. Second there was table upstairs which we requested to sit at. We were told it was being held and taken down to the dingy lite downstairs. When we finished our meal we noticed the table was still vacant. Then there was a special Tomato and Mozzarella dish which ended up to be mediocre and overpriced. the main dishes also seemed to be over salted as well. Again it was a very disappointing experience. We are taking this place off our list and for great places to eat in the North End.
Nico used to be our favorite North End dining place. Unfortunately, this visit left us disappointed... the service was poor with no engagement from our waiter. The food on this occasion was not up to par. Far better quality in Providence and vicinity. Veal parmigiana was bland and the sauce was flat. Lobster ravioli was filled with dried meat, not at all moist. It appears that Nico has lost its touch. Not the same restaurant it was just a year ago.
Nico Never Disappoints
Food was fantastic and the service exceptional and personal. Seating is tight, euro style, but it probably my favorite for dinner before a game or with a few friends. Veal Chop special made me feel like I was back in Tuscany!!
This restaurant is just fun. The portions are enormous. The service is warm. The food is of the good old Italian red sauce variety. Comfort food. Good for the soul.
been here twice now and it was fantastic both times. food and service are both great
