Discover Del Rio
The town of Del Rio is 152 miles west of San Antonio, Texas. Although the first Spanish settlers crossed the Rio Grande into the area in the 1700s, Del Rio was not officially incorporated as a town until 1911. Today, Del Rio and its distinctive food are part Mexican, part American and 100 percent Texan. It is easy to find restaurants that feature Texas favorites, like tender, slow-cooked beef barbecue. You will also find local versions of Texas chili. Tex-Mex dishes abound. Tex-Mex combines Mexican cuisine and traditional Southern United States cooking. This blended cuisine features distinctive spices and liberal amounts of cheese. Examples include fajitas, nachos, and hard tacos. There are traditional Mexican restaurants in Del Rio as well. If you are in the mood for more mainstream fare, you can choose from good pizzerias, steakhouses and Italian restaurants.
