Our family-owned restaurant is focused on sustainable, seasonal, and local ingredients - dedicated to sourcing from nearby breweries, distilleries, farms, and mongers.Our atmosphere is relaxing, and our staff will not fail to charm you. Most of our employees have been with us since we opened, and they absolutely make this place what it is today. Market Place Tavern is the latest concept and restaurant for Market Hospitality Group (MHG). The Tavern which overlooks the Litchfield Green, is the oldest public building in town and one of the oldest penal facilities in the state. It was built in 1812 to serve as a jail for British prisoners during the War of 1812. A cell block and a three-story wing with additional cell blocks, which now is part of the restaurant’s bar area, was added in 1846. The jail closed in 1992 and was used as a treatment center for men serving prison sentences. It shut down again in 1993 and reopened in 1994 as a rehabilitation center for women facing incarceration. When that center closed, the state decided to sell it.The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and features “American Tavern Food” with Craft Beers and Cocktails made with local spirits. La legendaria historia del Diorio Restaurant dio comienzo a principios de la década de 1920. El fallecido Rocco Diorio fue el responsable de la comida tradicional de primera calidad y de muchos recuerdos inolvidables para la mayoría de las personas del área metropolitana de Waterbury. Este restaurante cerró en 1980 y fue vuelto a inaugurar en 1991 tras una restauración completa que le devolvió su esplendor original. No obstante, la leyenda continúa ya que su equipo se mantiene fiel a esos entrañables recuerdos. Este establecimiento conserva la barra de mármol original, las mesas de caoba tipo cabina de gran tamaño, los techos de hojalata y los impresionantes espejos grabados al ácido con imágenes de la histórica Waterbury. También alberga un salón comedor privado para eventos particulares o corporativos. El Diorio Restaurant vuelve a gozar una vez más de su reputación como uno de los mejores establecimientos de Waterbury.

    Nice table and setting! The bacon is fun and delicious for a starter. The uncommon burger is tasty. By the way, the cake is huge so don't overdo it!

    Everything was fabulous. Depending how you feel about it the a/c was blasting on this 72 degree spring day. Definitely felt it in the bar area.

    Loved being here, and enjoyed my food! A small local bar/restaurant. And even though it is a bar and there were a good number of people there, it wasn’t raucous or noisy on this Monday evening, which I appreciated…just people relaxing and enjoying one another. The small, hardworking, and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The burger on a gluten free bun was delicious. Would love to spend more time here.
