Our island is full of stories, none more inviting than the one told by the dish in front of you. Known for its modern take on Hawaiian comfort fare, Alaia embraces the community through its support of nearby Mauka Farms, telling their story through every plate, bite, and sip. Using unique, native produce such as apple bananas, Moloka'i sweet potatoes and tomatoes from Pele, a third generation farmer, our culinary team works in tune with the seasons. At Alaia we reap the bounty from the mauka to the makai, working with hand-selected fruits and vegetables from our farm to your table. We let the quality and simplicity of the ingredients speak for themselves. And we love what they have to say.

We had a mixed experience at the restaurant. The food was amazing! Highlights included: - Shishito peppers (appetizer) - amazing - Crunchy hamachi roll (entree) - amazing - Miso salmon (entree) - amazing - Scallion pancakes (side) - must order!!! - Asparagus (side) - really good! - A salad (name unknown) However, the service was disappointing. Our entrees arrived 10+ minutes apart, preventing us from eating together. Additionally, our server forgot to ring in a couple of cocktails, which we ultimately decided not to order due to the long wait. The experience ended with a frustrating delay, leaving us eager to leave.

We made a dinner reservation for our anniversary. The front desk staff greeted us, congratulated us on our anniversary and then asked us where we would like to sit. The ambiance of the place was like a nice candle light dinner with the beach behind and a cool breeze. After being seated, staff gave us water and focaccia bread with whipped butter as a starter. After ordering we waited about 15-20 minutes for our food, but it was worth the wait as it was delicious. The kitchen was also able to accommodate a food modification request. Finally, they gave us a delicious dessert on the house and wished us happy anniversary again. The chicken was really good and juicy and the mushroom pasta was creamy yet not too heavy.

This is my go to place when I visited Hawaii. Love the food. Always well prepared and great service. I was dining on my own and the restaurant was busy with groups. It could have been easy to overlook me but Dylan (who was in training. Day two!) and his mentor were fully attentive. I chose the daily catch, which was delicious. Never had a bad meal at this restaurant. Well worth the walk or bus ride from the busy Waikiki area (bus 20,42) will drop you off at Queen street.

Merriman is the consummate restaurateur. His approach to food, service, and dining environment has remained remarkably focused on his customers. We have experienced this since dining at his original Big Island location over thirty years ago. We have dined there and at his additional restaurants now many times since. It is impressive to me that his Monkeypod at Waikiki restaurant has all of the features of his original, albeit in a much larger venue. Here we had creative dishes like poke tacos, and long established like Mahi Mahi macadamia nut crusted. They were all outstanding and served with care. Remarkable in such a high volume setting. We always look forward to dining at his restaurants and feel fortunate to do so when visiting these lovely islands
