Nanea Restaurant and Bar
The prime rib dinner was fabulous. Rachel, our waitress, made sure everything was perfect. Her recommendation of a Pinot Noir to accompany our meal was spot on. Mahalo
I would highly recommend this restaurant. Food was great, and service was outstanding. I will return.
The food was excellent, as was the service. It was a little but expensive, but what hotel restaurant isn’t. I will return.
Valentine’s Day dinner. Was great - we left our kids in the room👍🏾
The restaurant really messed up my wife's birthday and Valentine's Day dinner. I was planning to book Makana Terrace for the dinner but I was too late and the only available restaurant in the Princeville area was Nanea. We also had the breakfast at this restaurant the next day. Both experiences were sub par. The food was quite ordinary, the service was really really hopeless (and rude by one waiter). We sat down to a pre-fixed set menu of 4 courses and our first course came in after one hour. After 45 mins of waiting we asked the waiter where our food was. He shrugged and said "I already yelled at the kitchen". To the credit of the head chef, he did come out personally with the next course, made sure our food was on time after that, and offered my wife a hot toddy for her sore throat. However the food quality at Nanea needs to be raised significantly to meet the standards of other premier Marriott properties.
We were not made aware that there was only a “SET MENU” available until we were seated. That was not what we wanted but we were stuck with that or find another restaurant. If a set menu is all they are offering that should be part of the reservation information.
Food portion was unacceptable for the price we paid. Took forever to get our food. The Manager told my wife and I that the reason that the lobster was small was that it shrunk. The portion of the lobster wasn't even as big as my little finger.
Went for Valentines Day Dinner. They always have a set Menu for Valentines Day and its usually good and enough quantity of food.
This time however my entree was fish the size of a Half Dollar. (two bites and gone) Pretty small as well was the bowl of soup.
Salad, Soup, Entree, Dessert $75 each. Quite pricey for the amount of food. We will stay away on future Valentines Day's but will continue to go there otherwise. We like it there and the food is always good.
Was OK, but a couple of warning signs. First, my wife is vegan, ordered veggie entree, and it basically was a side of veggies with a couple of extra thrown on. $28 for probably $2 worth of food. More importantly, it took over an hour from the time we placed our order until we got our entree. Way longer than acceptable. Wouldn't recommend.
Ally (so?) was an excellent server. Very upbeat and efficient. Food was excellent - catch of the day Mahi and Ahi with red curry broth. Glad we came.
This is a good restaurant to use if you’re staying at the hotel and need Its convenience. It is certainly average by all measures, including food quality and ambience. The ahí poke that I had was extremely salty, enough to burn my tongue. The chicken selection was relatively dry and not overly flavorful, portion sizes are small. The average two higher than average prices certainly do not reflect the quality of the food therefore it is not a good value.
Excellent food and service. A favorite on the north side of Kauai. Highly recommended!
Great food and service
Usually I would give 5 stars but- this evening my dinner never arrived! So sorry! Then still- doesn’t come. Husband stops eating delicious steak to wait/- no info. Finally I grab server like 30 min in - just cancel don’t want it. What the heck! Just ordered the Hawaiian special. Manager apologized and offered us drinks/ we don’t want drinks we would like to have dinner! So/ not sure what is going on there. Usually consistently good food and service. They did take off the price of my husbands cold dinner but left charges of salad and one cocktail. Very unsatisfying evening in a beautiful place. And we are regulars! Disappointed. Hoping they pull themselves together.
Service was good (Kate). Ambiance good. Food good although very overpriced. $15 for a small plate of lettuce, $28 for a plate of roasted vegetables (our daughter is vegan so the chef/cook had to improvise since your web page indicated vegan dishes but upon arrival we found that they had been removed from the menus) ridiculous! We are here for the month of Feb but most likely will not eat here again. Les
The buffet was mediocre but not horrible. Unfortunately they have a very bad problem with birds flying around picking food off of plates even while you’re sitting there.
Also, there are NO disabled parking spaces!
Food and service were exceptional. Totally a repeat spot.
In the past 11 winters, we spend a month on Kauai and have therefore eaten at Nanea 4-6 times during that month. The food is always excellent. The service is usually excellent as well. However, the last 2 times we ate at Nanea this January, the service was mediocre. This, in our opinion, was an exception to the rule in regard to our usual experiences at Nanea.
Nanea is part of the Westin Princeville Villas Resort. It is reliably excellent. Fresh seafood is always an option. The ambiance and service are also excellent!
Nice place, overpriced
Consistent great food service and ambience. Opah delicious. Never disappoints.
Had a nice booth for 2 facing pool and tiki torch’s. Servers was wonderfull. But then, the wine tasting, in the other room began. It would have been ok if the lecturer just gave his info between courses but it sat at a table of 10 and shouted all through dinner. If any one is thinking of going check to be sure no wine tasting!!!!! The food was very nice. Chocolate dessert worth a return.
It was wonderful way to celebrate our Anniversary!
The food and view was amazing! The table was set with roses especially for our Anniversary! Beautiful evening!
Love having my first meal on Kaua’i at this spot. Great food. Great service. Then straight to my room. Must go on Hawaiian Night when Primrose and Randy are the entertainment - they’re great!
The menu was not that interested but we went in and they had some specials and the food was very good.
Our food was good, although my husband complained that his crab cake was not made of lump crab meat. I had the Thai soup, which was very good. We had calamari -- a welcome addition to the menu since we last ate there -- which were very good.
My primary complaint is about our waitperson, Rachel. She was very warm and welcoming, but she hovered. She stopped by our table every 5 minutes (probably not that frequently, but too often!) and asked: Do we needed anything? How was the food? Did we want another drink? Could she take any plates? Do we need more water? Is everything alright? You get the picture. I would have thought she was rushing us out of the restaurant, except there were plenty of empty tables close by. She took the empty plates off of the table, although not everyone had finished eating. She made what would otherwise have been a pleasant evening one that I have to complain about, and I don't complain often. We will eat there again, and if we have her for our waitperson and she behaves the same way, I will ask her to give us time to relax and enjoy our dinner.
We had a lovely dinner at Nanea. I had a ahi tuna and my husband had the swordfish special and both were excellent.
We took advantage of a half priced wine offer and had a nice rose
We shared the local ice cream for dessert
Our server Brian was very good and personable
Went here for New Year’s Eve. The food was delicious and the service was great. The prime rib was done perfectly and the baked Hawaiian dessert was amaxong.
New YearsEve
Food did not meet expectations. I expected more than mediocre “hotel food” for the price point and being in a high end resort. The service was epically slow and inattentive.
Had to have be
First I would like to say that our server was amazing. She is responsible for us sticking out our visit to Nanea! We had a 6:15 reservation, was seated by 6:30 pm and it was all downhill after that! We were not served our first course until 8:30 p.m. We were offered complimentary drinks for our inconvenience but that would not have been good on an empty stomach. Our server eventually brought us over some complimentary champagne. Our second course did not come until almost 9 p.m. and dinner came at 9:40 p.m. The appetizer of steak and egg was raw and mushy and very unappetizing. We sent it back for something else. Portions were so small and there was no bread to even snack on while we waited. It was Christmas and we were at the mercy of the slow kitchen as not much else was open. We asked to speak to the manager who came over and smiled, never apologized but also offered us a free cocktail. It was baffling as we watched some others around us get served quicker than our party but we also had others in our boat who were at the restaurant a total of 4 hours from start to finish. Our other table neighbors from Southern Cali were also being good sports and had waited about an hour and a half for their salads to arrive. They also couldn't stomach the steak and egg appetizer. The only thing I would recommend about this place is the atmosphere and our server (her name escapes me, unfortunately) but she tried all that she could to hurry up the kitchen, request the manager to come to our table, and apologize on numerous occasions. Earlier in the day, we also had a problem with our lunch at the pool side restaurant. My family had gotten their meals and mine, a burger, never came. When I asked that server, she said the kitchen was working on it. Thirty minutes later she brought it out with no apologies and handed it to me. The same manager for that place was the manager for Nanea. I think there's the connection. No excuse for such long waits for food!!!!!!
We were in Kauai on Xmas day. They were very busy, server really tried to keep up. However, my daughter’s Ahi was fishy tasting so not fresh. Her steak was ordered medium rare and came back very rare. My son’s risotto tasted like regular rice, not risotto. My meal was actually very good except for hamachi which was too salty. It took an hour to get the first course. For what we got it was expensive. To be fair there was a terrible storm the day before
We had Christmas Day lunch booked for our family and the restaurant did not open. They said they couldn’t put the roast in the oven because all their staff didn’t show up due to a storm the night before closing a bridge on one side of the hotel and a power line down across the road on the other side. Disappointing :(
Probably the most disappointing dinner experience in a long time. This was our 4th Christmas eve dinner at Nanea. Aside from one year when we also had a 45 min wait for a table, all previous times were delightful in terms of food and service.
This time, we were seated almost an hour after our 7:30 reservation, along with numerous other waiting parties. Then we didn't get served our first course (a tiny cup of soup, which couldn't have been THAT hard to prepare and serve) until almost an hour after we sat down. The rest of the meal came slowly as well, which would have been less of a problem if it weren't already so late.
At one point we ordered a glass, of wine. We only got it after we reminded her of it 15 min later. She also skipped bringing us the "bartender's creation", a special drink on the pre-fixe menu, until we asked about it much later after we noticed other tables had gotten them.
Server almost seemed to be deliberately ignoring us, while spending a good deal of time with people at a nearby table (who were seated after us but got 2 courses served by her before we got our 1st) even though we were quite polite about our long delayed meal.
The food itself was tasty overall but not spectacular for the price, and portions seemed smaller than previous years.
The main thing that saved the evening was delightful conversation with people next to us (who were seated shortly before us and also had a long wait for their meal though not nearly as bad as ours... they had a different server who seemed much more attentive).
Not sure whether the problem was with poor management, kitchen staff, and how much was the server herself. The very long wait for a table surely is a management issue.
We will not return there, which is sadly the end of a nice tradition. If you go, eat before going so you don't starve while waiting to be seated or served.
Very nice outdoor seating for lunch. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the ocean view that we had. Wait staff did a good job of taking care of our needs.
Great Xmas Eve dinner. Brian was an exceptional waiter. Was pretty expensive but totally worth it!
Fixed Christmas Eve menu priced at $75 adults, $37 a child and the serving size was VERY small. Not a great value and not a good selection for kids. Essentially same items as the 'adult' menu. Why serve kids shrimp bisque and not offer buttered noodles? Or bread? We sat an hour before getting first course. Brownie had no flavor, like it came out of a wrapper - plus it had nuts with no nut allergy warning. Who does that? Kitchen couldn't keep up with the patrons as early as 6:30 that evening. Disappointed.
Christmas Eve price fix dinner was very disappointing. The portions were very small and no one really cared for their meal. The service was okay but the experience for a holiday dinner was seriously lacking.
Sat in outdoor area which has a tarp roof for Kauai rain showers. Sitting overlooking pool with torches for atmosphere. Alan was our server and was helpful. We both enjoyed Uku which was the fresh catch. We have eaten here before and will definitely be back.
